I love Baldurs Gate...but...

DAMN, the graphics make me cry on my enormous 30".

I just can't get into it anymore. If it's ever rebuilt with a new engine I will be thrilled.
Just wanted to say it out loud.

And yes, I am aware of what I have just said.

I play on a 47 in HDTV and I play at 800x600 because I dont like the widescreen mod and looks fantastic to me. Not like just acceptable but it acually looks beatuful to me. Sprites are dated sure but the hand drawn environments are amazing. And I still love the music and envronmental sounds.

If somebody rebuilt it exact in a new engine It would be huge I think. Old die hards like me would play it and it people who are younger could experience it for the first time. It would spark the greatest purist RPG revival movement ever. Consoles would fade out. PC gaming would dominate again. Everbody would hold hands and rejoice and their would be world peace.

But It will never happen...

you know.. some people just dont get the "sprite" look..   to some sprites is what games where.. Donkey kong just wouldnt of been the same..  its a style of gaming, and many new gamers just dont like it cause they never had it, and now it looks dated to them.  But those of us that grew up with it, see it for what the games were.. not what they arnt.

Its like clash of the titans..    Or old godzilla movies, people laugh at the bad animation..  But those that remember it from before the new techno gagitry, see it for what it was.. a masterfull work of claymation.. and pretty darn cool for stop motion photography.  this is the exact same thing..

PS, maybe someone can team up with miss america and get it made..  She always is asking for world peace..  make it happen !

Take your party to Orzammar and run back and forth between the Commons and the Hall of Heroes with different party combinations.

I remember one between Zevran and Shale, too. With Leliana, Morrigan and possible others involved.

One of my allt-ime favourite games - Ultima Underworld - had fully 3D environments, and a first-person perspective, but all of the NPCs and monsters were sprites.

Didn't stop it from being a masterwork.

My first computer was a Commodore 64 and pretty much all the games were made using sprites. The only exceptions were vector graphics games like Elite. One of the sprite games that kept me entertained for many hours was a game called Paradroid. Also takes me back to the text based adventures, particularly of the Zork variety set in the Great Underground Empire.
