Do you suppose they, well, you know. It's probably not something they'd talk about. It would make sense though.

Back on track though, my original point still stands: The only way I'd support "having a child" in ME3 is if it were "optional" otherwise, I would seriously go back, delete all my data and start back from scratch in ME1 just to stay single and NOT have any kids
You could hook up with Garrus / Tali / Miranda / Thane, they can't have children with Shepard.

I thought about that....Which means I definately need to keep any and all data regarding Miranda and Tali as LIs lol.

but you still havent proved that male traits cant be acitive. so basicly what im seeing is come me3 liara will be a new matriarch seeing as in lotsb she says shes 108 in 2 to 3 months. remember in mass effect 1 liara says the reason why asari produce with other species is because if asari produce with asari she said something on the lines of extinction. i cant remember the exact line but
What? What does that mean? Seriously: I can't parse that at all. "Male traits cant be active"? What!? I think I may have just had a brain aneurysm.

In the ME universe Miranda herself was created with out a mother. Weather or not a woman carried her to birth remains to be unanswered but it seems like genetic engineering is very advanced. I think Miranda would view Shepard as an almost perfect example of humanity, maybe not personality wise but health wise he’s everything she wants. I think the game might get a little to weird if she asked female Shepard this though so lets just assume its male Shepard.
Would Miranda ask Shepard for permission to use his DNA to conceive a test tube baby to impregnate herself?
Do you think Shepard could get Miranda to open up enough to talk about it?

Nah, I mostly brought it up to make an argument why I think that the father does have *some* influence. As I said, I choose to believe that the father does have an indirect genetic effect on the child, but that's just a personal preference.didymos1120 wrote...

First, you cannot directly compare with lizards or other reptiles who are able to reproduce asexually.
Why are people insisting on that example so literally? It's merely an interesting parallel to the asari, and possibly a source of inspiration for the lore. I was perfectly clear about that. I'm not saying that's how the asari "really" work.

I said no other species contributes any genes to an asari child.
Of course not. They do however provide the rearrangement pattern for the mother's genes, as stated in a codex quote in this thread, and rearranging genes is, like, 95% of the reason for mating. And if the child's genes are rearranged in accordance with the pattern based on the "father's" imput then it's perfectly feasible for it to have it's "father's" character or minor morphological traits.
The question here is how simmilar Asari DNA is to human DNA and how close one can approximate the other when recombining.

that pretty much what i was trying to say. No, genes are not passed on, but yes traits of the father are. Therefore the father does have an effect on the child.

At the end of the day all that really matters when it comes to Liara having Shepard child is whether or not Shepard was the person Liara was melding with at the time. If Shepard was, and she then gives birth to a child it's considered to be Shepard's child.
basicly correct me if im wrong but didnt liara meld with shep in the first game? and maybe im high or reading to much into it but didnt liara look a wee bit pregnant in lotsb? because she looks like she gained a belly

Sure if the Asari pregnacy period is two freaking years plus.
Far as we've been told the Asari preforming the meld has to decide to become pregnant during it. Otherwise it's just really invasive sex.

That, and the fact that I'm sick of "the hero dies at the end". No one dies at the climax of the fight: they get killed by utterly mundane stuff before or not at all.
