Hi All,

I have been creating my campaign, Better The Demon, over a number of years now and I continue to work on it. It is a labour of love and will be finished one day as I slowly chip away at the task. However, I suffer with ill health and so am unable to put as much time into the project as others might.

This brings me to the main point: I am looking for capable area designers (both interior and exterior) that can offer to help with this project. Area design is my weakest ability and so takes me longer to do than anything else. If I am able to find a partner (or partners) who are up to the challenge of discussing areas required and helping me with the project, then this campaign can be released earlier than later.

I have already downloaded and am considering using a number of prefabs, but there are one or two areas that require a unique touch, and is always something that I would welcome anyway.

If you think you are up to the task, and would like to be part of a serious module design team, then please let me know. I pay particular attention to detail in everything I do, and would expect the same from anybody wishing to help. Here is some further information:

MATERIALS/PERSONALITY

1) Designer must work from NWN2, MotB and SoZ.
2) Extra haks are not expected, unless the designer believes they are worth adding.
3) Designer must be able to discuss/ask questions to ensure they understand what is required.
4) Designer is encouraged to give ideas and express creativity for an area before starting.
5) Designer must have good attention to area design, while also recognizing performance issues.
6) Commited to finishing the project (within reason).

LOGISTICS

1) As lead area designer, you would be given equal status as myself upon release. (Dual release project.)
2) If there is more than one designer, then status will be governed by amount/quality of material contributed.
3) Time taken for designs is flexible, but I would hope for an area to be completed within 1-2 months of request.
4) There should not be the need for more than a total of a further 20 - 30 areas (comprising interior and exterior).

You can read more about this campaign at the link in my signature. You can leave interest and/or ask questions either in response to this post, or directly through the message system via these forums.

Many thanks for your interest, and I hope to hear from you soon. Posted Image

you know what I make pretty rad interiors when I put the time in, and my exteriors are low end mediocre at best. Must be the terrain that seperates the artists from the arrangers.

I could probably do a exterior for you if you think I am up to it. however I can't promise more than one exterior at a time. since I have a lot to do in my own campaign and that thing they call life.
if thats ok with you I'd love the opportunity to craft an area for you.

Hi Hoegbo,

Thank you for your offer, I will send you a private message so we can exchange email addresses for more direct communication. I appreciate the time you are able to give and won't put any more demand on you than you want to give. Posted Image

Many thanks.

Lance.

Was that an offer to do an interior area? Posted Image

It's actualy a boat load of lies and slander.  Eguintir's exterior area's are as good as any I've seen in game, he's one of the most talented designers on here.  (Sorry to embarase you Ryan but I couldn;t let you sell yourself short like that).

You should list what you are looking for in areas. It might pique someone's interest. Someone might know of a particular prefab as well.

Hi Shaun,

That's what I thought, but I didn't want to push my luck and hoped any help from E.E. would be appreciated. ;)

Hi Kamal,

Good idea .... Although I have not fully made up my mind on all areas yet. ;) I am happy to have some of the area designs be discussed by the designer as my plot may be adaptable.

Some area designs in mind that I would like ...

INTERIOR

========

1) Log cabins.

2) Guildhall / Jail house.

3) Inns & Taverns. (A couple extra can never go amiss.)

4) Church & Temples.

5) Underground tunnels.

6) Mining levels.

7) Castle interiors.

EXTERIOR

========

1) Hills and valleys.

2) Woods and streams.

3) Coastline.

4) Mountain valleys.

5) Overland map of an island. (This was started by someone, but I have lost contact with them.)

6) Castle rooftop in a valley.

7) Swamps.

These are just a rough outline of teh kind of thing I will be needing, but even these are open to discussion with the designer.

As I require the area, so more specific details will be outlined and even rough diagrams drawn on paper.

Shaun you are probably confusing the prefabs as original work.

I still have some whips to crack till the end of this month I will show you some work later. I thought Hogebo needed some areas done too but if hes helping you Im confused.

I made those areas I needed help with myself and got some real life friends to pick up the toolset to help me do it.( I did some marathon work sessions with them to finish up what I needed). so now I'm mostly doing conversations and scripting and other tedious tasks  I want to break away from.

I cannot commit to doing all of them, but I may be able to make a small contribution. I certainly could not take the lead on area design. Are you comfortable with me working on an area by area basis? I have alot of other commitments and I think it would be irresponsible to overcommit.

If you want to see my work, check out the screenshots from my mod, The Wizard's Apprentice. Link to NWVault is in my sig, link to the forum thread in on the NWVault.

Hi M. Rieder,

Your help will be appreciated. :)

Funny enough, I have already had a quick look at your mod and played a little of it. :) I am in the tunnels behind the hole I made. ;) I like to take a look at other people's work to try to inspire area design ... having you as the original designer seems very appropriate. ;) I was looking for inspiration for a wizard's domain.

I will contact you via a message with my email address, so we can communicate directly.

Many Thanks,

Lance.

Well I got a month while my testers slowly shatter my confidence as a builder and Islander releases.

My small exteriors seem to go better, probably cuz I dont miss things. Ive also been wanting to test my theory that the nwn2 mesh is too low of resolution for the way I do things, because my DA areas look way better (more round) so Im wagering if I use larger brush sizes I can do a better area than I have before.

Give me a medium sized exterior area to do and an interior.

As for interiors, I seem to really dig intothe concept of making a rich estate. I don't really know what to do with other residentials; theres not really a middle class in mideival times, and the slum houses are pretty limited in what you can put in besides rags and dog poo.

Here's an example of my estate:
img837.imageshack.us/gal.php

Thats the type of standard I have for better or for worse. I do kinda like the reflection effect I did in the 3rd screen, notice the shiny marble floors . That's not something I can do with a dumpy slum.

So like I said, if you put me in a fancy area you'll get the most E for your buck.

For outdoors, the only thing I can say is I'm much more experienced with beaches, large lakes, forest type areas. Desserts, snow I find very easy not that I've done a lot, but I made them look up to some kind of par.

Just a warning about continuity: as a builder I build my interiors as small as possible. I don't have a player enter a tiny slum home placeable and then have them arrive in a 4x4 gymnasium. I maintain the sense of size as much as possible and the window placements, often only 1x1 or 1x2 areas. This may clash with others.

As with the work I did on White Rose, if a new Visual effect is required to complete the area, I do that too. Past examples: a blizzard (completely obscuring high speed snow), a golden dew drop dripping from the sprout of a magic tree, water fountains with different angles/flow rates.

Hi Eguintir,

Many thanks for your offer of help. I remember seeing your shiny floors from your blog.
I believe have the ideal areas for you then. :) I will contact you via private message so that we can exchange personal email contact.
