As has been pointed out by the companion count posts, nonhuman companions outnumber human companions by at least 1 in every game, including the dlc. It's only evened out if you play a human warden.
Perhaps OP was confused simply because the nonhuman companions weren't nearly as memorable as the human ones. It's understandable. Getting past the stereotypical archtyping of nonhumans is a hard thing for writers to do. Bioware took steps in the right direction with DA, but its still hard not to look at Oghren or Zevran and think, "Oh hey. Legolas and Gimli are back from their quest for the ring."
Actually I'm mainly refering to dwarves and elves, aka, main races (main meaning you can play as them in DA:O). Way I see it, as main races, elves and dwarves should have a bigger presence...
more in DA2 then DA:O to make up for the fact you can't play as them anymore. Since you can't play as them I'm hoping you can at least have more than one choice companion wise.
Say your *shudder* an elf fan. You can't play as elves in DA2 anymore, and say the only elf companion is not to your liking... your s*** outta luck. Add in another elf companion or two and you can get your elf dosage.
DA:O
5 humans
1 elf
1 dwarf
DA:A
4 humans (counting Justice whose technically in a human body)
2 dwarfs
1 elf
Cut back on the humans bump up on the elves and dwarfs.
