I totally agree, but I still think a majority will be human. Remember that a large amount of the characters are members of Hawke family. A dwarf cousin? Not likely.

Whaat?

Bethany is only confirmed part member i thoughtPosted Image

I believe Varric is confirmed (?) and Pirate Chick is confirmed. Aveline, Wesley, Bethany, and Carver are at least temporary.

I would prefer that my companion characters progress along the lines of who they are, as opposed to what they were born as. Humanity in general is an extremely diverse race, one in which two of its members can react differently to the exact same set of circumstances.

That stated, I think Hawke would end up slaughtering everything in his path if he only had human companions. There is such a thing as too much of a good thing in either direction.

A large amount of party members, you mean?  That hasn't been confirmed.  I don't think any family members have been confirmed as regular party members as opposed to temporary ones.

As it is, only two of them fight, and SPOILER Carver dies. SPOILER Not really that big of a number. Maybe Hawke's daddy joins in, if he's alive?

As has been pointed out by the companion count posts, nonhuman companions outnumber human companions by at least 1 in every game, including the dlc. It's only evened out if you play a human warden.

Perhaps OP was confused simply because the nonhuman companions weren't nearly as memorable as the human ones. It's understandable. Getting past the stereotypical archtyping of nonhumans is a hard thing for writers to do. Bioware took steps in the right direction with DA, but its still hard not to look at Oghren or Zevran and think, "Oh hey. Legolas and Gimli are back from their quest for the ring."

Pirate Chick is confirmed

Are we sure? It can be guessed that she's probably a party member, but I'm not sure it's been confirmed.

They might have confirmed it in one of the PAX Q&As, like the Rogue, Varric. If they did, I don't think it was Gaider, since I just watched like 2 hours of him to find out if Varric was indeed a party member or if it was just fans wishing it was true.

Elves have serious issues with humans in DA:O, and the last thing i want to hear throughout another game is the constant complaining that Velanna did...even if it is true, i'm not the human that did it to them. Wow, now doesn't that sound familar.....

Although i do have to give props to Iona...now there's an elvish girl i'd like to get to know a lot better then just the sack.

At least with human ompanions a fellow human has a much better idea of what they are getting personality-wise.

In any case, i liked the Origins mix of character companions....i wouldn't have minded Iona being a companion instead of Zevran, though...

Actually I'm mainly refering to dwarves and elves, aka, main races (main meaning you can play as them in DA:O). Way I see it, as main races, elves and dwarves should have a bigger presence... more in DA2 then DA:O to make up for the fact you can't play as them anymore. Since you can't play as them I'm hoping you can at least have more than one choice companion wise.

Say your *shudder* an elf fan. You can't play as elves in DA2 anymore, and say the only elf companion is not to your liking... your s*** outta luck. Add in another elf companion or two and you can get your elf dosage.

DA:O
5 humans
1 elf
1 dwarf

DA:A
4 humans (counting Justice whose technically in a human body)
2 dwarfs
1 elf

Cut back on the humans bump up on the elves and dwarfs.

I too would like to see more diversity of characters. DA has the best looking female dwarves in the history of dwarfdom, and yet the only dwarven teammate in DAO was an annoying dude. DAA was much better, Sigrun was super awesome, if she'd been an LI she might've been the best character in the entire DA universe. Of course we seem to be back to 'annoying dwarf dude' as a party member for DA2, but perhaps there will be a Sigrun-like teammate as well, one can only hope. Also for Elves, I liked the girl in Witch Hunt, somebody like her would be nice. I think outside of Hawke's family members, the Pirate Lady, and possibly Aveline, I don't really need any human teammates at all. Bethany, Pirate Lady, and Aveline right there would make an awesome team, I'd need a Sigrun-like level of awesome to get me to replace of one of those. Make it happen :) .

By annoying dwarf dude you mean Oghren... only the bestest companion of DA:O and DA:A imho. Sigrun somehow made the legion boreing...

"Back to annoying dwarf dude" you say. Varric seems to be a far diffrent personality then Oghren, and far less cliche' (I still love you oggy!) How you can condemn him so quickly is beyond me. Shame. Only elves are allowed to be put to the stake without any knowledge.

Sidenote- My opinions are factual.

I think Varric is confirmed and while Pirate lady wasn't officialy confirmed she's a pretty safe bet as a male Hawke LI companion (I have a hard time imagining Hawke kissing an uninportant character in the trailer).

I have a feeling that Wesley and Aveline are DA2  versions of Jory and Daveth.

Bethany was never said to be a permanent companion. She may decide to stay with mother when we get to Kirkwall. The first companion we get in games is rarely permanent (origin companions, Mhairi, Trask...) so I suspect Bethany is only temporary too (but maybe she isn't Posted Image).

I also think we'll be getting a dalish elf companion early in the game.

So far most of the characters we've heard of are human with one dwarf. Hopefully there will be a lot more of non-human companions. I've been hoping for a female elf love interest character. Another Quanri would be interesting. And seeing more non-human companions.

In the original origins game they gave us one elf one dwarf and one quanri and you could count the dog as well and the golem if you had the downloadable content. All the rest were human. Awakening had the dwarf return plus another dwarf but still only one elf.

Your statement is true but misleading, nonhuman companions being even with human compansions is not equal representation.  DAO for example had 4 humans, 1 elf, 1dwarf, 1 quinari, a dog, and if you had the dlc 1 golem.  Neither the dog nor the golem counts as a race, so humans definately outnumbered the other races, and that is when adding them together.  Equal representation would be 3 humans, 3 elves and 3 dwarves, with at least 1 quinari.  I do not expect that kind of lineup in DA2, but equal representation is not humans=all other races combined.

I'd rather my whole party be non humans. Humans are vanilla boring. They're the timid choice. I play fantasy games so that I can get away from humans.

I play them so my humans can kill those pagan stone worshiping cave dwelling dwarves and those tree hugging communist elves.

In one of the Gaider interviews, I forget which, he seemed to slip up and tangentially refer to Pirate Girl as a follower.

I disagree with the assessment "Oh, if they're not elves or dwarves they don't count as non-human". I think that's plain silly, and a tricky way to get the statistics you want. Justice isn't human--he's in a human body but has none of their ideals. I wouldn't count him as an elf if he were in an elven body.

As I said earlier, gunning for more elves just because you can't play as one is ridiculous. It's how the story is written, not any obligation to include x amount of this race.

Oghren was my favorite male companion and even if he was pretty useless in fights i kept him because of his party dialogue.
@ OP It doesn`t matter if they are human or not but mostly if you can relate or like them.
