Sorry Maverick, I need to hear this from a dev:

'Multi player and co-op will not detract from single player campaign".

Then I will believe you.

That is not what I said.  I proved that multiplayer does not have to impede single player, not that a hypothetical BioWare implementation wouldn't.

Why should people stop replying with no.

Because it is disrespectful and unhelpful?  This is a forum, not a poll.

*Goes into rant mode* Why!!!! why the f*** does this game need Co-op!?!? Man what is with you people today!?!? It always seems like when ever a game is announced you people are all like "Oh does it haz Co-op?" fricking multiplayer nerds, not every game needs Co-op! especially in this case where it could greatly impact the single player experience! so go play your halo, your cod, or your gears! but please......please leave this game for the people who still desire a innovative and emotional single player experience.*Exits rant mode*

So in other words......no.

Wait, the people who want to play games with friends are nerds, but those who wish to play alone are not?  Why do you feel the need to automatically jump to Halo when a much more apt comparison can be found in Dungeons & Dragons?  Can you put forth any actual argument to support your irrational feelings, or are you just, in effect, spamming?

Ahem... I play both Halo AND CoD online more than I care to admit (put a damper on my DA mod development for a while)... Please don't categorize us like that Posted Image

Seriously though, I don't think there is anything wrong with wanting co-op. People just have to realize why there won't be, and then leave the subject along.

I play both Halo and Gears, but I'm not one of those guys who wants every game to be multiplayer driven, hence the term "Multiplayer Nerds".

This isn't the game for multiplayer, if you want co-op/multiplayer, there are a bunch of games for you. COD, Halo, and Splinter cell conviction have nice co-op/multiplayer. Too many games have these modes in fact.

In other words, no.

But how many tactical, fantasy RPG games have this model?

Given the nature of the game, co-op just isn't something that seems viable when you don't have an open world or random dungeons, etc. It doesn't seem feasible, so I say...nope. Even with the changes to make DA2 more of an action RPG, the fact is that the devs have said that the combat system essentially remains unchanged from DA:O. I'm not sure that hybrid tactical combat (in which you can still pause) doesn't seem to me to be a good candidate for a co-op mode.

I have no idea. I don't play RPG's to be social.

So because you do not have the desire, nobody else should have the ability?

Not what I said, I was explaining I had no knowledge of multiplayer RPGs because I have never had the desire to play one.

I don't play Bioware games to play with somebody else. TOR might be an exception but I'll still probably end up solo-ing as much of it as I can.

Oh I'm sorry I was under the impression that if people wanted to play games with each other there were other games specifically designed for multiplayer and that DA2 was staying exactly the same as DAO which was designed as a single player game, silly me.Posted Image

Nice one.

With how DA2 looks Co-op probably would be fun. But too late in development now for its inclusion. Of course modders in Oblivion made a co-op mod (albiet somewhat laggy) so given time it could happen to DA.

Really though co-op in order to work would require the game to feature it less as just being there and more integral to the story. I'd hate to be second player saying nothing while player 1 makes a decision that affects the whole game.

Where was it said that DA2 should be multiplayer?  I just want an enthralling co-op BioWare game set in Thedas.

There was a project in the works, but it was shut down.  To quote the project page, "The mod can be done but BioWare will not allow it."

Ah such a shame. Just like Bethesda pulling the plug on Morroblivion.

Since DA2 is a story about ONE man/woman, co-op wouldn't work. Maybe in another DA game. I sure as hell wouldn't want a co-op one. But not my decision to make.

Just because something CAN be done doesn't mean it can be done well, or, if done at the developer level, cheaply. Modders are volunteers -- you have people at varying skill levels willing to spend a few hundred hours working on things for free. This can become very expensive if it has to be done by paid professionals, and if it has to be reasonably bug free and cohesive. Modders have greater latitude for error as well, and don't have deadlines and the same kind of budget constraints.

Edit: And, oh yeh, to answer the original question, please no :(

Pretty much. Now if DA2 was about us controlling Hawke and Bethany on an adventure then it would of work. But just Hawke and his awesome beard and maybe some nutella...and Varrics chest hair....

Luckily for me Hunted the Demon Forge will be giving me my fill of co-op RPG goodness.

This subject has already been covered to death. For reference, see the comments by myself and others on this thread. In summary:

What you're asking, in effect -- and to use an analogy -- is why the designers of the Ferrari didn't add a rear propellor and pontoons to it as well. After all, wouldn't it be better if you could sail it as well as drive it? In a sense, I guess, but it wouldn't be nearly as good a sports car if it were built that way. Building really good dramatic SP mods for NWN1 was often complicated for just those kinds of reasons, which is why I personally am excited by how Dragon Age was designed.

Great analogy. Sums up my feelings on this pretty well.

Co-op would destroy the feel of the game honestly. It wouldn't be a bad mechanic for something else with the overall design polished for that sort of thing. Here I simply don't think it would work. I'd rather have a well polished single player experience rather than a co-op mode that doesn't fit and feels rushed and incomplete.

Damn, you guys are such a downers. "Do you think co op..." "NO.no.nooo.nononono.NOO.no". I personally don't think it would hurt to have co op included.

Dragon Age co-op sounds good, but it won't happen. Bioware is already making a multiplayer game and that's where it is going to focus. Even though I don't mind a co-op mode, I am going to side with those who say no because Bioware has enough trouble keeping up with bugs in single player.

Thing is, mediocre co-op is so damn rare, and good single player, plentiful.

/sarcasm.
