How about this: I tend to believe Bioware, who said it would

interested. All I've seen as the "official" word is somewhere
someone from Bioware posted, simply, "Dragon Age is a
single player game." (I have no idea who it was or where, so
take this as my memory, not proof.)
I did see someone from Bioware post that, but damn, it was a
while ago, on the old forums. Maybe Georg Zoeller, the lead
system designer? This being the internet, I understand if
people don't believe me, but I stand by my comment.
At any rate, as I've stated earlier, if it was possible ,I would
welcome it with open arms. Who am I to take the fun out of
something for someone else... Unfortunately, it's not, and so,
here we are
The part I bolded in Firky's post was said by Chris Priestly and is linked to in the "What we KNOW about DA2" sticky thread. I believe David Gaider posted something to the effect of "we would add co-op if it could be done in a way that wouldn't adversely affect the story" but I'm not sure which of the numerous co-op/mp request threads it was in.

I will adamantly vote no for pvp combat though, once you add co-op pvp the game becomes a nightmare of class balancing and lore takes a backseat to making sure a fighter is equal to a mage, etc.

Same with DA2. It'll be my Hawke's story or your Hawke's story. Not our Hawkes'.

The one major thing I like about BW is that they seem to be one of the few devs that AREN'T obsessed with tacking on co-op & multiplayer to their titles.
While I enjoy playing certain types of game online, I think online play has really killed the single player experience.
Bioware are one of the few devs around that can still knockout an epic, single player game.
Besides if DA2 did go co-op, it would be like Fable II all over again: a complete waste.

DA is just not built for co-op.

I totally agree with you, once again.
Online play is here to stay, sadly. A fine example of a game killed by the online multiplayer is Lost Planet 2.

You poor fool, you don't have the slightest idea how many enemies you're making with dumb threads like this.
The only dumb idea is the one never voiced for fear of ridicule... ideas don't make enemies, closed mindedness does.
I totally agree. Well said, by the way.

Perhaps I should have provided an additional lemma stating
that the affordability of such a project is well within EA's
reach?
What about a little item called ROI, or Return On Investment? Adding features to a game, especially after it has been released (I'm aware that DA2 isn't out yet, but the engine being used is), should only be considered if there is significant proof that the investment would be worthwhile.
Creating an engine and story that supports multiplayer
experience, while a significant undertaking, would not
detract from a single player experience, even if you think it
would .
Bioware disagrees, hence no plans for co-op play in DA for the foreseeable future
Wow, that was pretty easy. Maybe I should forget this whole "
logic" stuff and just start stating things with no further
argument. Here, let me try it again; just as you say no...
Yes.
I can see why such mental lethargy is so addicting, now.
I don't think it's what you say it is, based on the comments made by people who have played games that were ruined by poorly implemented co-op.

Since this ME2 DLC is taking forever, I guess I'll try to turn yet another one of these threads around.
It is entirely a myth that multiplayer or co-op gameplay unequivocally detracts from the single player experience, and I will attempt to prove why:
Nice proof but it breaks down here:
Lemma: "The source of resources are willing to provide more provided the return is proportionally adequate."
Proof: The Old Republic will be EA's most expensive title to date, trusted in the hands of BioWare.
In summation:
EA has proven itself willing to essentially throw funds at BioWare to achieve goals of great proportions. With these funds, BioWare is largely allowed to distribute them creatively how they wish. With sufficient funding, any single department would eventually reach their creative limit, so to speak. Since there are a finite amount of departments, again with sufficient funding, the entirety of BioWare would reach its creative limit. Once this happens, the only way to see a positive benefit from the use of resources would be to expand to new departments and new functionality, namely to multiplayer or cooperative gameplay.
Problem. The Old Republic is a joint venture by EA and LucasArts (adding a second source of funding) based on a franchise with thirty years worth of name recognition behind it, even by people who would otherwise not play an RPG, and has NO single player component what-so-ever.
Dragon Age Two on the other hand is a solely Bioware created franchise which is barely a year old market wise and does not have the same kind of name recognition that TOR has by being a Star Wars game.
Q.E.D.
That, however, only explains why it might be viable. Whether or not it is requires the following:
Supposition: "The inclusion of multiplayer or cooperative gameplay into Dragon Age would be financially viable."
Proof: ...well, that's not my job. It's impossible for me to know this. It is impossible for you to know this, too. Stop replying to these threads with "no." You will only look foolish after my logical deconstruction and proof.
Actually it's not impossible to know this as those of us who have been following Bioware have seen it happen in the original campaign for Neverwinter Nights, plus there's been a HUGE discussion of adding coop to single player RPGs for years, one in which developers have taken part and discussed the pros and cons of adding co-op.
