@ Collider--sorry about that.
@FieryPhoenix7--sorry I missed that from the OP as well.
But I do think you have a point about the romance. From what I've seen from Jacob's romance (dialogue wise and stuff--no offense to Jacob lovers) and Garrus' too, is that they are more like flings. Heck, with Garrus, it's about blowing off steam, not about love or anything (originally). Thane's romance develops quickly (that's more to blame with the nature of ME2, however), but it's based on eventual mutual love, methinks.
If there's one thing the romance with Garrus is not, it's a "blowing off steam" fling. At the VERY beginning, sure...as in when those words are said...but it becomes far more apparent as you go along with the romance that it's more than that. LotSB helped cement that.
I won't turn this into a Garrus discussion since the OP'er wants to focus on Thane, but a lot of us have discussed this pretty in-depth over on the Garrus thread.
That's why I said originally.
I'm saying with the others it seems more about blowing off steam at first. Haven't done the Jacob one fully through, but I loved Garrus' because he's absolutely terrified and wants something to go right, and to me that conveys a deep caring for Shepard.
I'm just saying Thane's doesn't start out as a fling.
And forgive me, but for some reason I saw, "Why Thane's Romance is the Deepest in ME2." Maybe that's because I was in class as I was typing my replies. And although I think you have a point, but I guess that depends on the playthrough. Were my non-romanced FemShep from ME1 to romance Thane, then I guess it could be considered deep in that they both find love through the tragedy. If I used my FemShep who romanced Kaidan, then it lessens that emotional/romantic impact.
I haven't romanced Ashley yet, but I've romanced Kaidan and Garrus and Liara, and I must say Kaidan's has an awesome development, and I guess Ashley's could go the same route. To me, feelings start developing between Kaidan/Ashley and Shepard after Eden Prime, when Shepard saves whoever from the beacon. And it develops through all the way to the end. And then Horizon, and then the email, are all emotionally charged. And the picture scene before Shepard goes through the Omega 4 relay is poignant.
Shepard's magical genitalia should not be the only way to "save" Jack or Thane from their pathos.
....why is this quote so awesome?
