What are you hoping for the Mage class in DA2? :)

I want a more detailed and in-depth explanation of what really happens when someone gets possessed. Abominations are so often treated as insane mass murderers, but what if there is another side of that coin?

What changes from the Origins equipment would you like? :)

I want a staff-blade like what Hawke used in the trailer! And some cooler looking staves. Spellfury and Lamppost in Winter from Awakenings were both really cool, but the original staffs were kinda lackluster. I want some Awakenings-style staves.

The story, of course. My Hawke is going to be a mage, of course. (And Male. If Lady Hawke could grow a beard, I'd play her, but not otherwise.)

And any other questions you like to discuss :)
Bring on the finishing moves

The finishing move that mages get when you kill The Mother was great. I really want some mage finishers. :D

What changes do I want for the mages?

- Hoods. Hoods that are normal with no freaky feathers on them. Real hoods, and a couple that can also cover my character's eyes.
- Staves, in most fantasy I know of, are also used to beat up people and not shoot pixies out of. They are maybe not STABBING material, but they are serious blunt damage if you use them right. Trust me, I know. They are my favorite weapon right next to spears and longbows. I'd like to see some serious ass-kicking like Morrigan was doing in the Sacred Ashes trailer, where she was actually PHYSICALLY beating people with it.
-Re:Staves: I'd like to see more "Lamppost in Winter" (Awakening) styled staves, and make them appear earlier on. It broke my heart that when I could finally use a staff of that style, it was only for a short period of time because the end-game was not far away.
- Robes. Make them beautiful but not whorish. Maybe a little wild too, seeing as Hawke will be a apostate if s/he is a mage. Morrigan's default robes are a good reference, if the front and sides were WAY more filled in (I am a girl and I personally do not to walk around in a top where if I risk moving one way ever so slightly, I could and probably will possibly flash everyone. The open back is livable, but not recommended).
- Finishing moves. I liked the Mother one at the end of Awakening, but I'd also like a gory one... Uhh, I'm not exactly sure how to explain it. Sort of like this (oh, I hate putting this up...):
Watch from 1:15-1:18

This. Morrigan's robes are terrific. Ridiculous (re: thimble nip pasties) yet terrific. I think they're easily the most interesting apparel in the game, because they reflect her background so well - the wild feathers, the dark colours, and...I suppose...the indifference to conventional standards of modesty...

What I want improved for mages is the Blood Magic.
Everyone in Thedas says Blood Magic is so powerfull and dangerous, but when you're using it,you don't really get that feeling (at least I didn't). I want to summon demons like The Mad Hermit and Avernus, and put Templars in my thrall.

Yeah, the hood-like hats in DA:O might have been fine if they didn't have the silly feathers on top.  Who thought that was a good idea?

I'm glad that we'll no longer look like coneheads. That aside, I would like sexier robes for my female mage. What can I say, I like being fashionable (on my mage at least). As far as headgear goes - I'd be happier with a circlet or no visible helmet whatsoever.

Which of the Specializations do you think will return in DA2:

Blood Mage definitely will be as seen in Trailer
Spirt Healer should have a high chance of making it

How about the others though Arcane Warrior, Shapeshifter, Battlemage and Keeper

I hope there's at least ONE condom hat. Just as a joke. Alongside another pair of faded pantaloons.

To further the joke, they could make this one hideous piece of headgear the most powerful artifact in the game.

I never used mage hats in DA:O, because they made my eyes hurt.

Personally, i would like a large variety of mage equipment

Bladed staffs! Must have!

And to be able to make a "battlemage" Hawke, which is mainly a warrior but has some awesome spells.

Image IPBImage IPBI would be shocked if Blood Mage (which is what Hake is in the trailer) and Spirit Healer weren't included.  I think Shapeshifter should still be included, they just need to totally rebuild it.  It had great potential, it just sort off fell flat in Origins.  Arcane Warrior could work, but I think they need to tweak it so it isn't too powerful.  The thing is, though, they want classes to be really distinct, so AW goes against that.  Battlemage is a possibility.  Since you must be elven to play a Keeper, I doubt we'll see it (seeing as how we're human).  At least I thought you had to be elven.

By that logic you can scratch arcane warriors too.

in regards to the specs, I think it's a given that Blood Mage will be in, since they confirmed trailer Hawke is a Blood Mage.

As for Arcane Warrior and Battlemage, I think those two could actually be combined in the effort to streamline the system, since they are so closely related to making combat-oriented mages.

With the whole class distinction business, I'm thinking that maybe Arcane Warrior/Battlemage, if in, will be retooled to focus on the staff, or the staff/sword in particular.

If AWs can't wield swords and shields, 2hs, or DW weapons, then they should at least become specialists in the art of staff combat. Regular mages can melee with a staff, but this should be the AW's forte.

In fact, I wouldn't mind, or be surprised, if they end up making the staff/sword in the trailer the exclusive weapon of AWs. It is a unique, hybrid weapon, so it seems very fitting for a hybrid spec like Arcane Warrior......

No, you don't have to be elven. It just makes a bit more sense story-wise if you are. I don't see Keeper showing up in DA2 unless you have a Dalish mage companion willing to teach it to you. Arcane Warrior is another I don't see happening. From a meta game standpoint we already know they're trying to separate the classes more, so a melee focused mage is probably not something we'll see. From a story standpoint, Arcane Warrior is pretty much a lost art that only the warden knows. So, unless at some point, you come across a book on the subject written by your warden, I don't see it happening. Although that would be a cool way to get it. They could even do a little 'insert character name here' from your imported save in the description. Like 'Sword and Sorcery: the path of the Arcane Warrior' by {your warden}.

I don't see why Arcane Warrior can't still be in the game. Who's to say there's not another AW out there in Thedas ( outside of Ferelden )??

And, as I said, maybe AW won't = sword wielding mage anymore, but it could at least mean a mage that is highly proficient in staff melee combat.

after all, the initial impression of trailer Hawke was that he was an AW, given the way he combined both melee fighting and spell casting.

If mages by default can melee fight like trailer Hawke then that would be great!

But, if not, then there is no reason why mage Hawke couldn't lean to fight like that throuh an AW spec.

And it would still keep the classes distinct because staff fighting is a different fighting style than DW and archery ( for Rogues ) and Sword + Shield and 2h ( for Warriors ).

I want big shiny ornate armor, and I want lots and lots of bling. I also want a malicious vaughan-esque laugh.

A golden jewel-encrusted sword staff, with massive golden armor and a flowing cape (preferably red or purple, but blue is acceptable)

I loved the keeper spec which is pretty powerfull combined with bloodmage and arcane warrior (yeah I was pretty sceptical at first, but it's really powerfull and much more fun than arcane warrior/battlemage/spirit healer IMO, because you can tank AND spellcasting).
But it would be pretty difficult to legitimate for a human mage (even a friendly keeper will not share the most holy secrets of its kind I guess).

Anyway, I want badass finishing moves for mages (like most of people here ^^). More different robes too. I love the look of the tevintide robes (keep it like that plz !), but I've found only 3 different robes for the DAO PC : barbarian, tevintide ones and the robes of the Circle of Magi... It's not enough. A couple more would be great !
It's pretty much the same situation for staves.

Urm. If they come up with a new melee-mage spec like the one you're suggesting, I'd rather they came up with a new name for it too rather than arbitrarily altering the lore because you like the sound of "Arcane Warrior". Hell, what you're talking about seems much more akin to an evolution of Battlemage... which, as a term, has a much wider scope than AW (mage that is trained to wade into the midst of battle, basically) as well as them being much more common in Thedas.
