After reinstalling NWN Gold and then Hordes of the Underdark, it played fine. When I installed the patch though (so i can use the CEP 2.1) the play button will only bring up the splash screen and nothing else. I have used the guide to installing NWN on Win7, but cant do the driver update since all I have is a basice motherboard computer (for now).
www.costcentral.com/proddetail/Acer_Aspire_M3400_U2052/PTSE002014/11152791/ these are the specs (except for the speed, which I have only 2.7 but it is the same motherboard with 4 gigs of ram. I am also on a 64bit comp.

Yes, As stated in the first post, I followed the guide to running NWN on windows 7. All that happens is the mouse has the waiting sign and then nothing. No loading or anything.

Cannot remember the answer tho i have seen this before. Try turning off movies in the .ini as mentioned in the Win 7 sticky.

I don't know if this is at all related to your problem, but I used to have a similar behavior on Vista Home Premium 64.
By good fortune one time when I closed the stalled game with Ctrl/Alt/Del, the splash screen disappeared and I got just a glimpse of the main screen before the program closed completely. What I saw was the UAC confirmation pop-up sitting on the main screen. Basically, the computer was waiting for me to acknowledge a pop-up that I could not see or access in any way.
Mind you Vista Business and Ultimate have an option for no confirmation; Vista Home does not.
By this point I was so fed up with UAC I simply turned it off. In retrospect, there is a remote possibility that Windowed mode might allow access to the pop-up. At the very least I suggest that you check to see if Win 7 will allow you a no confirmation option.
Hope this helps.

Re: UAC, AzurDraak's tip (above) - Yes, typically to play NWN without incurring security-based issues UAC should be disabled regardless of the OS that uses it.
