When I try to start the game for the first time, it goes to the configure screen and instantly crashes after that.

I run an Intel Pentium 4 Dual Core 2.8ghz
4gb of ram
and a ATI Radeon HD 4650

Note: I can play Mass Effect 2 fine.

Could having UAC disabled cause this problem? or is this something more?

Please can you confirm you are patched up, as I remember ME1 instantly crashes on newer Windows operating systems without patches.



If you are patched, have you tried deleting the configs and going from scratch?
