Bioware, either DA or ME related. I don't think I've ever seen the
speed go above 200k on this site, and taking 5 hours to download a
couple gigs is really, a pretty inflated amount of time over what is
actually needed, and what is within this companies finacial reality. I
own every ME1 and 2 DLC, every DA:O DLC, and always, Bioware hosts
terribly slow downloads, in my personal experience.
I could
easily understand if Bioware were a smaller, self published company, but
you guys are making an MMORPG, are owned by EA, partnered with Lucas
Arts, and yet you have, almost unacceptable, border-line ludicrously
slow DLC servers at the moment? I understand the two are not connected
outside the owning of servers by a singular business but, it worries me
to see your in-house digital distribution channels looking so pale in
comparison to even smaller comapnies, such as Stardock, whos in-house
digital distribution rivals the almighty Steam in it's effectiveness.
Likewise, comparing Bioware's ability to deliver Bioware's own games and
DLC, to a company like Valve, and thier ability to deliver thier own
content, is quite laughable.
It's time to step up Bioware, and
face the music. You guys know digital distribution is a huge factor in
success, now, and more-so in the future. Why does your DLC, then,
download at... let me check... 45k a second?!?
45k a second is a
speed I would personally consider close to "not even downloading" ... if
it was going at 20k a second, I would turn it off in an attempt to save
myself the wasted electricity I used to leave my CPU on and download at
that ridiculous speed. There is no call to ask me to leave a CPU
running off a 1200 watt power source powered on all night so you guys
can save a little bandwidth so you can save a few pennies.
Do you
see what I'm getting at? 45k is nearly unacceptable, yet, in my
personal experience, I have not ever seen a Bioware DLC download at more
than 200k, and I own every single DLC for ME 1/2, DA, and even alot for
NWN. Your site actually makes me remember the times I spent
downloading NWN: Infinite Dungeon onto my PC, and I can imagine, your
using the very same distribution server to this day... That's a bad
thing, Bioware. Are we getting into the penny-pinching business,
pushing the costs onto the customer whenever possible? Is that really
the impression you want to give, even if it not your business plan?
Just
saying, overall, your (in)ability to host your own DLC *effectively*
has me questioning your (in)ability to host your own MMORPG
*effectively*.
Step up, or get stepped on. Valve wears big,
heavy boots. Either let them host your DLC, or be respectful of the time
and energy players need to spend to download directly from your
servers.
Please post if you've ever downloaded from Bioware over 200k a second.
