I'm getting close to the point where I'm going to have to pick my Specialization, and I'm having trouble deciding between them. Can anyone offer any advice?

Eh... this would be the Soldier class, right?
Commando. Increase your damage, your survivability isn't a problem.

Commando, the 21% damage bonus is really nice. Since in your other thread you've already said you don't like using immunity tanking, the damage protection and health bonus you get from shock trooper would be pretty much wasted.

Actually, I'm planning do give Immunity Tanking a try. The only reason I haven't started doing it already is because I don't have the +25% Immunity Cooldown Reduction that the Specialization gives.

Both specs give you the Immunity bonus so with Commando your survivability is still covered. Shock Trooper gives you more health, but Commando's probably better. You get a nice damage bonus and you still soak up ridiculous amounts of damage.

I was actually leaning towards Commando already, but wasn't sure if Master Immunity would be enough to keep me alive. That's why I created this thread. Looks like I'll be taking Commando for the damage boost. Thanks.

Shock Trooper if you want to melee thresher maws.

Why Melee them when I can use Assassination on them? Sure, there's the bad*ss factor, but I'm more interested in killing the things.

I don't think you can melee a thresher maw to death. With the right set-up you'll survive for much longer than you should be able to, but you'll still die.

Shock Trooper also reduces your cooldown you Adrenaline Rush. This can be very useful if you want to utilize you bonus power more often. Commando does get a get damage boost though, and reduces the cooldowns of Marksman and Assassinate.
I go with Commando on my Lift Soldiers that use Pistols and Snipers as primary weapons, with Assault Rifles as back-up.
I go with Shock Trooper on my Singularity Soldiers that use Shotguns and Snipers as primary weapons, with Assault Rifles as back-up.

I'm actually running around with Throw. Maybe not the best, but I've used it a couple of times when enemies get close to buy me some range. I don't like enemies being close. I also use Assault Rifles mainly, and Sniper Rifles when I'm taking out targets outside the Mako.

Survivability isn't a problem for a Soldier. Just go Commando for the huge damage bonus.

Shock Trooper is like God Mode...
From Gold Standard Builds thread in the old forum:
http://meforums.biow...35077&forum=123
On Insanity difficulty, at Level 60, with the right gear equipped and Master Immunity activated, this build can:
- Play bloody knuckles with a trio of krogan for more than twenty seconds.
- Win a duel with a geth colossus at twenty paces.
- Survive 36 direct hits when being simultaneously fired upon by two Alliance Heavy Turrets while wearing Colossus X heavy armor.**
- Survive 55 direct hits when being simultaneously fired upon by two Alliance Heavy Turrets while wearing Colossus X heavy armor modded with a single Energized Plating X mod.**
- Rifle butt a thresher maw and live to tell the tale.
Footnotes
* When in melee, thresher maws alternate between their toxic spit attack and a true melee strike. The melee attack does over four times the damage of the toxic spit attack, discounting the toxic effect. The seven attacks cited are four toxic spit attacks and three melee strikes. Thus, while outside of a thresher maw's melee range, this build should be able to survive roughly 16 acid spit attacks.
** For comparison, a Level 60 Infiltrator/Commando also using Master Immunity with Colossus X medium armor and a single Energized Plating X can survive 18 direct hits from the same pair of turrets.

Really, all that shows is that Shock Trooper is pointless unless you feel compelled to punch rocket turrets to death or something.
Now there's a quote to be taken out of context.

That's an exaggeration. There are areas where two Colossi fire at you in conjunction with a bunch of foot soldiers, along with an environmental hazard constantly nipping at your health. One such area is Solcrum (last planet in the Geth Incursions chain).

Oh, that place. I just slip on armour from... eh, Devlon Industries I think it was, and snipe everything to death from a mountaintop 200m away. Take all of zero damage.
Man I miss being able to snipe like that.

I liked my INDESTRUCTABLE Shock Trooper build. Seriously, with immunity he just goes up and melee's Thresher Maws to death on insanity, it's awesome.swk3000 wrote...

In fact, I HAVE to turn on Insanity and strip armor off just to take enough damage to end any of the survivor missions on Pinnacle Station with him.
