1.) How do you detonate a grenade? I know hitting "R" will throw them, but how do you get them to explode?
2.) Is there a bathroom in the ME1 commander'd quarters, and where is it? I have been all over that room and am finding nothing.

I always did find the lack of bathrooms on the SR1 odd. Maybe they used tubes and vented out the side of the ship ala-Apollo missions?

Yeh, its strange there are no facilities whatsoever on the SR1. Also what bugged me is the mysterious arrival of the entire workstation at the end of the sleeping pod aisle on the SR1 at the start of ME2. (Equivalent to where you enter the Battery to see garrus on the SR2) The escape pod behind joker was fine with me, but the workstation?? How'd that get there?? lol
Edit: OP Hit same button used to throw grenade to detonate. No Toilet.
