At the moment its still along way off but what does everyone see the future of Mass Effect to be post ME3 ? As we know ME was always meant to be a trilogy but it has proved hugely popular. This popularity will no doubt see it return again as Bioware like any other company are unlikely to dispose of something that works well, pleases their fans and makes them money

So how would you like the next carnation of ME to be?

What would your preferance be on the below poll

My own view is that Shephard dosent feature in it whatsoever. I think cameo appearances would be cool but the central characters should all be new again. I just couldnt see Liara or Grunt taking orders from a new "You character". It would be like, "Eh I helped Shephard save the world, who the **** are you to be ordering me about"

Shepards story should end in 3, one way or another. Assuming the universe gets saved in ME3, I think they should come up with a new protagonist (perhaps not even human? Imagine being able to be an Asari, Turian or Quarian: each customisable as Shep was in ME1) a new story and new evils. True, the Reapers threaten pretty much everyone & everything, but they're not the only problem the universe has, simply the biggest at the moment.

I would like to see some cameos from old Squad Mates but not have them back in this new group. It'd also be interesting to see the effects of the import feature (perhaps using the import saves to determine the future games setting & the decisions that Shep took to shape the universe)

I honestly think Bioware have made a hella good IP to expand and do other things with. It'd be a bloody shame to waste it.

BW has already talked about exploring the universe of ME from another species perspective, theres a theory about an mmo happing because of the credits.

The universe is so big that they can do all sorts of things, Space combat rts, Civilization style turn based on colonization. etc....

I doubt sheaprd will be continued because Shepard is the players story so you cant really expand if they stayed that focus

If they make another Mass Effect game after the 3rd it should be something like Dragon Age Origins. Be able to create and customize a Turian, Quarian, Salarian, (Geth?), Drell, and Asari. Then have a different origin story and after that your character can save the galaxy from some new threat.

I'd like to see more ME as a new character, but working for Shepherd (possibly as a Spectre candidate) and allowing any species.

I AM SPECTRE! Line of Warlord Grunt, clan Urdnot.

Opinion seems quite divided on this one. So far people are slightly favouring the "Leave it at 3" option which is somewhat of a surprise

I'd personally like to see a new trilogy start. Something based 50 years after Mass Effect 2 so you can get a load of cameo roles in there. Not sure how the story would work, but I really think Bioware should stick with the Mass Effect universe in the style they have been doing.

Here is what i'd like to see in order of gametype:

1. Action RPG - Basically just what they are doing in a new story arc

2. RTS - I think this would be pretty awesome. Don't know how they'd manage a story, but something along the lines of Dawn of War 2 with upgradeable units would be cool.

3. FPS - My least favoured choice for the next series of ME games. I'd buy it, but wouldnt be as happy as with the other two options.

I choose "Build the new ME universe around a selection of current ME1, 2, and 3 characters"

BioWare has plenty of material to work with if we go back in time. Samara alone has a few centuries of experiences/stories. you could also do a complete game around the Quarian fleet. the Citadel has plenty of stories too...By doing back story you avoid conflicts with ME1 to ME3.

As long as it's set in the ME universe I couldn't care less what type of game it is. I'd buy it.

RTS along the lines of Commandos: Behind Enemy Lines. You get a small squad (in the case of Commandos 5) and that's it for the game. You can buy upgrades, armor, weapons, ammo. Base it around either N7 or Spectres. Or similarly to ME start with N7 and work your way to Spectres.

It depends how the third one finishes. I would kind of like to see the Reapers defeated but the mass relay system shattered leaving hundreds of isolated worlds. New technology would need to be developed, but the more remote systems would be impossible to reach for now. That way it can be set in the future (100 years or so) but in some ways with a technology reduction. Longer living species would still have characters alive and would be interesting seeing the same Asari characters surrounded by new faces. They should stick with the ARPG genre imo. It is working well. Definately not RTS unless they have some very good ideas, that is a very stale genre.

Why the hell would BioWare turn Mass Effect into an MMO?

they would cannibalize their own userbase for The Old Republic.

It will never happen. Ever. Believe me.

Leave it at the trilogy - all good things must come to an end. Also, the multitude of endings should be so immensely different that creating a sequel will be impossible.

A few post-ME3 novels, each catering to a certain major ending, would be appreciated, though.

Shepard stories should be kept as the trilogy. If they do another game after ME3, it should be with a whole different set of characters and different plot.

And genre, possibly.

Please not an MMO. I'm still upset that The Old Republic is going to be one.

Well Bioware have said before that Mass Effect 3 will be the last ME of the Shepard story arc which pretty much says, without actually saying it, that there will be more ME games. With such an in depth universe it really has the chance to be the Star Trek/Star Wars of the Gaming world.

I would love to see it branch out into some sort of TV series in the stead of Deep Space Nine, just base it on Omega. Even then, more games would not be a bad thing. I love the Universe that Bioware have created with ME and I really want to see more of it after ME3.

I think alot of people misunderstand topics like this. They immediately think "Oh no, can't have more Shepard after ME3! No more Shepard! Raargh!" when in fact it's simply talking about what to do with the brilliant universe the Bioware guys have made.

Shepard adventures should definitely end at mass effect 3, along with the reaper story. But what i would be nice is other games based on the same mass effect setting, but with other characters, for example a game around the krogan rebellions, or the rachni wars, or some other event, like first contact war. Basically the mass effect universe is very rich and interesting, i don´t see why it should end after shepard history is finished. One example is mass effect galaxy, even if it was for another plataform it is an example of a game based around other characters on the same universe. I think it would be a new refreshing chance for Bioware to make a protagonist that does not have to save the world, but can have other motives. I secretly want a Nihlus game when you get to screw around people and meet Saren before he got funny reaper ideas.

edit: please not a mmo <_<

I really don't want any more ME games after ME3. My main issue is that if the Reapers are defeated (not a certainty I guess) then they'd have to come up with some new threat and that'd either lessen the evilness of the Reapers or never live up to them. Bioware should move on to another universe when the trilogy is finished.

Yet I bet you'd still buy a new ME game if they released one lol

Seriously though, obviously defeating the Reapers is a massive task but Bioware can do whatever they want. The Krogan could find a cure for the Genophage and make a massive army that the other races need to defend against or the Turians could mobilise against humanity after further troubles. There are plenty of things they could do and I really hope to see more.

Anyone who disagrees can just not buy the game, although if it has Mass Effect in the title, I doubt that will happen.

spin off titles need to be prequels, imagine playing in the blitz story or torfan story

Why are people assuming Shepard will be back for ME3? He is dead, and it will take ships millions of years to reach Milky Way Galaxy. Unless he is again cryogenically preserved to be Lazarus cloned or something.

Shep is only dead if you really screwed up ME2 (basically you have to do it on pupose). In that case, you wont be able to import you save but have to start a default. Otherwise, you can import and will continue with your Shep in ME3. That much was confirmed long ago.

As for after ME3, Well, we get a movie, let's see how that goes. As for games, they should definitely keep the cinematic action RPG format with a new character. Shep could appear as NPC (you would import your save and he would look like in ME3 and act according to your decisions and your paragon/renegade score. That would be great. As for story, there are soooo many plot lines they could explore it's almost ridiculous to speculate.

I personally would also love a tv series, kind of like a mixture of star trek (as in you have a specific ship and crew that you follow) and the new battlestar galactica (as in visuals, continuing storyline and quality of drama) but all in the typical Mass effect stile. Not sure they could pull it off though. I mean BSG AFAIK was ended after 4 seasons in part due to high production values and something like that should be standard for quality so it would be damn expensive.
