I would not mind seeing another Shepard story arc, just not right away.
Or perhpas even better, jump forward, a couple of hundred years, and let us play as Liara, or another character's descendant, or a totally new  character a few hundred years in the future. Let's see what kind of universe shakes out from Shepard's work in the hear and now; the aftermath of the Reaper war. What will the Terminus systems look like, in a couple of hundred years? Will the the Batarians and Geth be around? How about the Rachni or Yahg?

For me, the best story arc post Shepard would be the fall of the Protheans. You could set it up like Halo Reach. See where it all began and of course learn more about the Protheans themselves.

But its already determined the Protheons have been wipred out - Would it not be hard playing a game knowing that ultimately you're doomed

I don't know.. it seems to me that whenever a franchise returns to making prequels it's a sure sign that said franchise is going downhill.

I was surprised by number of votes the choice I made got: "Leave it at the trilogy - all good things come to an end". To me that's the only one that makes sense. The trilogy is about Shepard and his crew to defeat the reapers. I hope that they succeed in ME3. If they don't I will be disappointed. I don't think I could stomach another reaper mission in ME4. Everything in the ME universe is connected to the reapers and without the reapers even the name "Mass Effect" (a reaper technology) becomes hollow.

But do you believe that its possible for Shepard to fully destroy the Reapers? For me thats just not possible, I think sealing them into dark space and eliminating their agents is a more realistic strategy. If its done that way the Reaper threat will always remain

I could easy see a Mass Effect game that has nothing to do with the reapers in any form.

Example : A game about San Holo a scoundrel.Smuggler and pas time pirate + His merry band of comrades trying to make a living, Earn credits and buy a bigger ship.

Like I said the name "Mass Effect" would become meaningless to me. It looks like you don't make that connection whereas I do. But I certainly won't object to such a game. I wouldn't buy it, though.

At the end of the day, the Mass Effect name is marketable. I can't see any company not utilizing it for as long as it remains that way

I think it's hard to say at this point, because we have no idea how ME3 will end. For all we know, the Reapers could in fact wipe out organic life again...which I guess could set up to play some other rise of organic life...but that to me would seem silly, because there would be no really twist, as we know they would find the relays, citidal, etc..

If they did this as the only ending, I probably would have to reconsider all of my BW love.  One ending, ok Shepard did something wrong and the reapers win.  But they have to have one ending with Shepard and his crew beating the reapers back.  If not destroying them totally, at least sending them back into deep space for another 50,000 years.

So then 50,000 years people have forgotten and it starts over with a new group of races.  But that would be sort of boring I think.   Maybe following the escaping reapers into dark space itself.  That might take 20 or 30 years to research so a new group would be required to follow the trail, with some of the longer lived races showing up.

Who knows...I really can't say for sure what I would like until the conclusion of the triology. I do know that I would like Shepard's story to end with ME3. Whether or not they refer to him in future games, I don't mind, but I don't think we should play him or explore his story anymore.

I agree.  ME3 should be the ending of Shepard's story.  Hopefully with more than one ending because I really need an ending with Shepard and Kaidan or any LI surviving and either holding one another or saying the L word.  I love you - I know.  Lets go plan our future.  :D  so I can see them grow old together at least in my imagination.

I wouldn't like it if Shepard was removed completely, just as a playable character. It would be kind of neat to have your Shepard take over for Cerberus from the Illusive Man and attempt to mend that organization's relations with other species. The new character could be some kind of Cerberus agent working for an aged Shepard. Or Shepard could take over on the Council spot of Udina/Anderson. Or be the object of a mission.  Just as long as he's not removed completely, I'd be satisfied.

An RTS could be cool. There are quite a few species to choose from.

The biggest issue might be coming up with a good enough antagonist. It might feel a bit underwhelming to go from defending the galaxy from the Reapers to preventing another war with the Turians or playing as a Salarian in a conflict between them and the Krogan. That's just me, though.

And I would like him/her removed completely.  one of the many things that irritated me about KOTOR2 was Raven being mentioned.  (I know BW did not do the game).  I have a vision of Shepard in my head based on all of my games and having someone else's Shepard show up doing something totally inconsistent with what I did would in polite words, upset me very much.

The prime fiction in the ME universe is definitely rich enough to support a whole host of games. I too think ME3 should be it for Sheperd. As for the future, here are two ideas I would like to see:

1. RPG/FPS in the mold of the trilogy - only the main storyline revolves around the Geth-Quarian issue.

2. RPG/FPS that revolves around the G-phage issue

3. Space-sim (in the mold of Wing Commander) that sees the player take on the role of a carrier based pilot in the Alliance.

I want games that continue the Universe maybe play as other species etc with the focus on something different,

Prequels might be awesome too, with the krogan war, rachni war, seeing the Reapers be born and start their long genocides.

However I don't want Shepherds story to end with the reapers. I'm a fan of on going series - such as the discworld series which doesn't retire characters but gives them new challenges in different area's. The main factor is making the stories engaging, and exciting. It doesn't always need to be the big bad trying to destroy the galaxy.

I love discworld series, but I don't want something after ME3 to involve anything about Shepard.

Shepard is fluid, changes with each game or gamer.  Put her in something after her story is over and she is no longer the person I knew.  No longer the person you knew.

It's one reason I agree with the people who, if BW makes another game in the ME universe, would like it to be far enough in the future that Shepard  is just a memory of someone who fought in the reaper wars.  I wouldn't mind having one of the long lived races be in the game or make an appearance.  Grunt now in charge of the Krogan, or one of the asari.  Just not Shepard.

By your logic, we shouldn't have a halo reach either, since it doesn't take place on a halo. Honestly I'm not sure how many people really mind a game of "Mass Effect" not being about the reapers. I wouldn't. There is alot more to the universe than simply the reapers and certaintly great potiential for stories that have nothing to do with them (think Batarians, Geth, Cerberus, etc). It's literally endless, but still if you feel too strongly about it being called "Mass Effect" without Reapers,  you don't have to buy it.

Mass Effect is more than just Shepard's struggles against the Reapers.

In fact, I would enjoy a smaller and more personal journey more than Shepard's current one. Something that's actually "human" and relatable.

Reach pulled it off very well. And in my honest opinion, Bungie can't hold Bioware's jockstrap when it comes to story telling.

Thing is, in alot of ways, the Protheans are just as responsible for saving the galaxy as Sheperd is.

I don't really mind prequels, but I would prefer ME4 being in the contemporary Universe (Sheperd retired though). Either way though, the series MUST go on. Just please no MMO, we already have TOR, and if thats a success, than thats all Bioware needs to do, if it's horrible than they should stick to what their good at- singleplayer.

Even if they wanted to make a ME MMO They won't do it, mainly because TOR is the most expensive video game in history if not in the entire entertainment history
