Which version of GSB is better on a widow soldier?

Neither. 1pt Slam, 1pt Neural Shock, Squad Warp, 1pt Stasis (and jury's out on that one for Soldiers) are viable Soldier bonus powers. You could even say no bonus power at all, Soldiers do more than fine without it.

Neither. A fully maxed out GSB is pointless on a widow soldier that shies away from close combat. One point is good enough. Even then barrier is a better option since it's instantaneous while GSB isn't. If you're not usually in close combat and you're just using it to recharge shields when you get flanked, you're probably better off with medigel. Same delay in applying it as GSB but lower cooldown.

I'd rather take slam, area reave, or max out squad cryo than take points in GSB.

I don't like GSB or any of the other similar skills either. The theory is that I want to spam AR as much as possible so having any other powers are just going to get in the way. IMHO using an Ammo power like Heavy Warp Ammo would be a far better choice.

Now you can use Inferno Ammo vs. Armor ... Disruptor vs. Shields ... Heavy Warp vs. Collectors & Vanguards. Because Ammo powers have a tiny cooldown you can even ping-pong between them so you always have a good power on your weapon before you shoot.

If you're looking for an "I'm about to die" skill go with Unity or AR as the need arises. AR will help you flee ... Unity will heal you and restore shields. The cooldown on both are far less than GSB so you can be back into the action quicker this way.

If you want GSB for a +10% damage bonus I'd recommend not bothering. You'll almost only be shooting during AR so the +240% damage from it will dwarf the +10% damage from GSB so you're unlikely to ever see a real difference.

In summary you should almost never need GSB to live && you'll never notice any damage boosts. There are better ways to go ...

Toss GSB to the curb. AR gives you much more damage AND survivability - all your cooldowns should be going into it. Your panic button should instead be Unity to restore your shields (You can get that upgrade pretty early on in the game) and use Warp Ammo + Widow/Revenant for the Collector missions.

If you have to use an activated ability, Flashbang Grenade is better... in fact, I wouldn't even use that. AR is that damn good.

I've started using 1pt Stasis on my Widow soldier, and it's sick. Same cd as Concussive Shot, but way better CC. It's good for controlling rushers, flankers, and big boss types while I sit around one-shotting mooks with the Widow. Just did Mordin's recruitment mission, and just the ability to take a single Krogan or Krogan Warlord outta commission is pretty boss.

I was going to say neither, everyone else has beaten me too it though. I'm rocking stasis at the moment and thats ok. neural shock and slam are the go to powers for soldiers due to the minimal cooldown.which doesn't interfere with AR.

Athenau I think has done some good work with Energy Drain on a soldier, which can replace the higher levels of disrupter, give you a shield buff, but is only useful against shields.

but seriously, no defensive powers on a soldier. just unecessary.
