So, the first time I visit Shepard's private quarters in ME3, I turn on the sound system and it plays this really poppy alternative song with lyrics like "I always make bad choices" or something along those lines...

I'm disappointed in the Mass Effect 1 OST CD release. The music lacks clarity and seems gritty. It is probably due to dynamic range compression or something, but it seems odd to me that the MP3s are the better version when their files are tiny in comparison.
So now I'm looking for a version ripped from the game ... or downloadable official versions. Stoopid Amazon won't sell MP3s to non-US customers though (and I'm not touching iTunes). What other options are there to purchase all of the Mass Effect music (all, not just ME1)?
