I still think that the differences in speech we hear among quarians are partly due to them speaking with a translator or not (accented pronunciation vs plain English). However, since the accented pronunciations themselves seem to differ from each other (Shala has a different accent than Tali), that could also be an indication of different origin among the quarians themselves. They would have to have a single language to communicate amongst themselves irrespective of nationality, much as humans have English, but retain accents.

Ascension notes that quarians are physically capable of speaking English.  But for this idea to work, the entire Admiralty board would need to know how to speak English.

Kal would be the only one using a translator, since he doesn't have an accent.

Dunno.  I mean... her dad didn't really even have the same accent as Tali (must've come from her mother).

Edit:  didn't he sound almost german or something?

Most likely yes. IIRC from ME1, wasn't Talis mother pretty much the one who raised Tali anyway, since her father was busy?

Myabe, maybe not.  In ME1 Tali says her mother was just sort of in the background.  Whatever time Rael spent on her, he seems to have been the one she was more affected by.

I want to hear more quarians from whatever birthship Daro'Xen originated from. (For the love of god, please don't crush my soul and let it be the Khalos. ;_;)

That's what I said too, I also reckon that even when they're using their translators, they'd still maintain their accent and voice, to make it more seamless. (But the ones always using a translator would stick to a "default" accent)

Ze germans?

I dunno.

The only thing I can see that Tali got from her father was his selflessness and devotion to their people.

Everything else seems to come from her mother.
Snarky mommy Zorah. Damn, I wish I could've met her...

Quarians have more then one accent.
Like Captain Kar'Danna vas Rayya and Admiral Han'Gerrel vas Neema have English accent.
Don't forget that they are different nations in every race.
Tali, her aunt and father for me sound like they have Indian accent.

EDIT#1

Kal'Reegar has American accent.

Kind of makes you wonder what direction Liz Stroka was given in her VA performance, or did she just created the accent herself due to the nomadic gypsy-like nature of quarians.

I think as many others do, that she was given vague descritions of the voice BW wanted for Tali in ME1, and it was a little difficult to maintain.

And in ME2, it's closer to her real voice, allowing her to pronounce words easier while still having a certain level of the accent we all know and love.

I'm reminded of a commentary track by Claudia Black for Farscape, where she mentions her odd accent with its mixture of Australian/British. As others couldn't full replicate it, it meant the Peacekeepers ended up having whatever accent belonged to the actor, I suppose. So I wondered if the other actors were allowed to go with whatever accent they felt suited the personality rather than choosing an accent that mimicked Liz Sroka's.

Part of me thinks it's a shame because the accent gave so much the quarian mystique in ME1. But then the different accents also demonstrate that while they're 17 million people in one fleet, they still maintain unique groups within the larger population.

I believe I read that Liz made the accent up herself.

I could swear I remember seeing a dev post say that they tried to find actors to mimick Sroka's accent but gave up.

She really does give one great performance in Mass Effect 2. Her and Beattie (Mordin's VA) were just awesome.

They have more chances to have Slavic accent then Danish.

I'm more of a Tali/Kal girl. I don't like the Talimance, but I love the character. Especially when she snaps at Shepard for rather cavalierly telling her to give up on taking back the homeworld.

I can't see it.

I could rather see her be girlfriend with either Garrus or Reegar if you didn't romance her.

That's why I'd like alot more Tali/Legion dialgue I think that if you have Legion on her loyalty quest than it would have been great for him to say something like "But a rock is not home... you have a home with your people and with Shepard Comander." His pure logical way of thinking when it comes to what 'home' really is would have I thnk gave her pause.
