Hence why I hate it when people ship Tali with anyone other than Shepard, she clearly states she'd never trusted anyone other than him/her enough to actually show her face. (Yes, I'd definitely support Tali showing her face to femShep at some point. Like Shala linking up with Tali's mom.)
The fact that she's never trusted anybody to that extent
before doesn't mean that she can't grow to that level of trust later, with someone else and under different circumstances. As someone who mostly plays FemSheps, I find this view slightly too emphatic. It's like you're saying that Tali is doomed to remain single if your canon Shepard happens to be female.
To destroy her character character like that just to hook her up with the likes of Kal would be disrespectful to the material BioWare provides you with. (Not to mention there's something called friendship, too. But apparently a female and male can't be nice to each other without there being some sort of sexual tension.)
Again, I obviously have an angle here, but statements like this feel slightly disrespectful to me. I'm not stupid, I completely agree that a female and a male CAN be nice to each other without there being any ulterior motives, and I'm the first person to roll my eyes when people start envisioning Shepard/Nihlus or Shepard/Anderson. I'm not saying Tali should end up with Veetor, that she has a secret crush on Han or Garrus, or semi-repressed fantasies about Jacob or Legion. I respect the fact that, if your Shepard is male, then he's Tali's OTP. In fact, that's exactly how I see it too. But shouldn't this kind of tolerance work both ways? What if Shepard is female?
I'm not going to start a big argument over this, I'd just like to say that envisioning Tali with someone other than Shepard somewhere down the line does not automatically mean that you misunderstand her character or that you disrespect her. And no,
it doesn't have to be Kal, I'm perfectly fine with that.
