Kal'Reeger seems to at least be competent, but overall, yes, the Quarians don't seem to have a strong military tradition.

But Quarians do have a  military tradition, unforunately, it translates into a tradition of  losing such as the losing of  their homeworld, the losing of their colonies,  the losing of their science vessels, and the losing of any number of small scale incursions. It's not a tradition to be proud of that is for sure.

That's okay my Shepard will offer comfort  and aid to Tali and her people.

Most of these losses have been to the geth. Who are supposedly very difficult to fight (if you aren't Shepard)

If Kal'Reegar is a respected squad leader in the quarian military, it's clear why the quarians do so poorly in combat.

That's the great thing about fighting geth, the more you kill the dumber they get!

Does Tali have any dialogue for Kenn? I never remember to bring her when I do that quest.

The geth have something the quarians don't. Strength in numbers.

Nope. She's very quiet.

I was disappointed with that, I wanted her to say something

Yeah, she was very verbal on almost all the other quarian related quests. What gives?

That and they can be dropped from an airship nearly anywhere. Shepard and his squad of elite badasses just make fighting the things way easier than it should be. They've actually won every battle that hasn't had direct Shepard involvement.

Kinda like the Collectors are supposed to be brutal fighters (Zaeed mentions the battle on Horizon being the toughest in his life) but you are able to curb-stomp them with ease.

Though Tali probably brings an edge since she is supposed to know a ****load about the geth even for a quarian.

Not a word.

I love bringing her along to the Citadel to watch her rip into the Volus, however, and she does have an extra line or two for the "slaver" encounter on Ilium.   It's too bad she doesn't have more to say to Kenn.

It's way early in the game. The devs probably figured you'd have finished it long before you recruit her.  I think her getting in on the poker game is actually like an Easter Egg.

It probably slipped their minds. Or Kenn was added in after Liz had already finished recording all of Tali's lines.

Except that she's got lines in the pre-Horizon missions.

I usually get the poker dialogue just because, once I buy the new couplings, I have no reason to go to engineering.

Before I learned how to "unlock" the game, go recruit Tali, then relock it, I once specifically waited until I came back to Omega for Samara to actually talk to Kenn, just to find out if Tali had anything to say.

I wouldn't be surprised if Sroka and Keener were called in to record their lines before the other characters were even cast. It would explain why Tali's dialog is the most complete compared to the other pre-Horizon squaddies anyway (Thane and Legion don't even have dialog for Horizon)

You mean using a save editor?

Yeah, you can use the Gibbed save editor to put Tali in your party early. She's got all the necessary dialogue for everything before her recruitment mission. Just make sure not to add her until you get to Omega.

Nah, I can wait. Not much excitement pre-Horizon, anyway.

Yes.  Using the same trick will also allow you to visit Illium, recruit Thane and Samara, etc, before Horizon.

I wish I could have helped Tali disinfect herself from the fire she took on the Aleri... so I can see what color her skin is :D

Tali has some awesome lines pre-Horizon. Like this one on Grunt's recruitment mission

Tali: Can someone please kill her already?

They're dragging out the "What do quarians look like?" thing mercilessly. Off the top of my head:
Suitless quarian in the second book
Quarian kissing the host of that award show
Shepard seeing Tali's face
That advertisement on Illium
Fornax
That matriarch bartender
