I was never quick enough on the final paragon action to get her to comment on her change of status. In fact, I was shocked I could still kiss her and wondering if my playthrough was bugged. It's only at the end when she asked if I was going to help Tali secure her homeworld where the she even recognised my relatiohship with Tali. This was definately post suicide mission. I thought there would be more fireworks or tears then that. Very easy break up.
From a design standpoint, you don't want to punish the player over-much for taking what was a perfectly legitimate option in ME1 and not being able to see the future and know that Tali would be available in ME2. Sure, a person can go back and redo ME1 "clean." However, again, by design, forcing someone to go back to a different game to try to get something right in the current game probably isn't something they want to make a policy.
From an in-game perspective, try this one on for size: in her mind, Liara had to deal with the idea of Shep being gone even before the first kiss. She was always going to outlast him by hundreds of years. Sure, it'd hurt that he wanted to be with someone else. But it was going to happen sooner or later.
Also, I've heard this a dozen times now: is it really that hard to hit those interrupts? I nailed them all the first time.
