Man, shortly after I beat ME2 for the first time, I fired up ME1 and played the entire thing for a romanceless Shepard for Tali. I wanted my personal ME story to be with Tali being the only one for Shep.
So if you could romance Tali in ME1, I'd sure as hell replay it for that.
But since it wasn't an option, I wrote a fanfic in which it happened!

Tali's character would probably be ruined if she was a romance in the first game.
Also she wouldn't be in Mass Effect 2 if that was the case.

I do suspect Tali wouldn't have been in ME2 if she were a romance option in ME1. The pattern with all other LIs just kinda points to that.
Then again, if Tali were an LI in ME1 (which would probably mean Garrus would be too, to keep things balanced), that effectively means everyone on your team was an LI option, except Wrex. It wouldn't be likely that Bioware wouldn't bring back anyone from ME1, so maybe it would've resulted in all the original squadmates being in ME2.

The main reason her romance works so good is because they actually had to write something for an already established character. Otherwise they seem to write a character with a romance in mind and totally cripple that character for it (Liara suffered this before LotSB "fixed" her and Jack still suffers from it)
She was better off being made a Love interest in the sequel.

I imagine she wouldn't have been all "You're a traitor!" like the Virmire survivor, she probably would have said she needed to be with her people to help them out for whatever reason.

Part of why I like Tali is because of her dedication. She trusts Shepard when noone else (Garrus doesn't have to trust Shepard, he's the only way out) will. In spite of you working alongside a terrorist organization that infiltrated the flotilla and is known to completely abuse aliens, she sees that you mean well and places her beliefs aside to work with you. Thanks, Tali.

I'm also 97% sure that they'll show her face.
And I'm about 81% sure that we'll have ME1-level romance scenes, which with Tali, will be like the greatest moment in all of video game-dom.

I mean, you know they have documentation, designs, and concept art of what quarians look like. Bioware knows what they look like. They gotta reveal it eventually. Might as well do it with everyone's favorite quarian.

Don't hurt yourself too much Rune, Tali will be sad. I am a person of extreme patience, whether or not there will be a face reveal, seeing a romance of epic proportions will be worth it in the end. Will be nice if they do have a face reveal though and have Shepard/Tali kiss, show some skin. If they do this, ME3 will be my favorite game of all time. Sorry CoD4.

Mass Effect 2 is already my favorite game of all time simply for the interaction with characters. They are believable. And yes, I was banging my head against a wall between ME1 and 2 because Tali wasn't a love interest and it is that much better because she wasn't. If like, at the very start of the game they show a scene in your quarters with your LI, like right after you two have had sex, and for Tali they show you just her bare arm via camera placement.
On the one hand, "Whoa, first time we see quarian skin!" but on the other "Her arm? FUUUUUUUUUUUUU--" and you gotta wait until near the end to see her face.

I would rather see some of Tali's curvaceous back in that case. Save the rest for the end of the game. Effortlessly raze through enemies and the Reaper Fleet to witness that greatness in its entirety.
