Oh dear. Well, my position on the matter is that Tali loved her father, so I'll respect her view.

I also like to think he reciprocated. His original letter to Shepard would certainly indicate it.

From Admiralty Board, Migrant Fleet

Commander Shepard,

Tali sent her transfer request with that data she gathered, and I approved her request. She has been told to expect to still receive orders from the fleet every now and again, but she's got a blank check on exactly how long she can stay there, because if I said no to this, I'd lose what little ground I have with her. Don't tell her I said that.

Now, she hasn't said it in so many words, but I know for a fact that she thinks you're the best thing since stewed land herbivore paste #13, and if she ever said no to you, I will eat this terminal. You'd best not prove her wrong, motherf*cker. If it turns out that you aren't as tough as everyone thinks you are and my daughter come back here hurt, I will park my armored, immuno-deficient boot squarely up your ass -knife and all- along with half my goddamn fleet.

Admiral Rael'Zorah
Migrant Fleet Admiralty Board.

I know your girl is running off with that human again, but this is no way for an Admiral to represent himself. Straighten up. I'm sure Shepard will still get it if you're a little more subtle."]
[TIMESTAMP 04.16.2185 01:20 - User: Adm.Zorah vas Rayya "You do it. I've got other things to do."]
[TIMESTAMP 04.16.2185 01:24 - User: Adm.Gerrel vas Neema "Fine. I'm not even going to ask what's going on over there. But I hope it's worth it."]
[TIMESTAMP 04.16.2185 01:26 - User: Adm.Zorah vas Rayya "I think it will be. Someday, and someday soon. Our people, and above all my daughter will reap the benefits."]

Shepard can take it. He's a spectre and I have a feeling Tali would stand up to Rael for him if he was absent. Its a double sided relationship.

Just to be contrary, you could suppose that Rael would see the political benefit of a relationship with the most famous human in the galaxy and quietly hope it was a phase Tali would grow out of.

But yeah, there's definitely that threatening-father vibe from Rael's letter if you're looking for it.

Unfortunately, the world will never know, since we don't get to meet the guy.

Considering Shepard's situation at the time of ME2, what good would exploiting his relationship with Tali do?

He can get reinstated as a Spectre, and his personal reputation as the Hero of the Citadel is probably still great.

Oh yeah, I forgot you can get reinstated. I always tell the Council to shove it.

Rael was a smart man, having a Spectre infatuated with his daughter would give him quite a bit of power.

A situation...

Legion's head gets shot off during a deployment against Heretics. Optics and many other head-mounted sensors completely mangled. Headless Legion suggests cannibalizing a destroyed heretic platform's head for a replacement. Otherwise, Legion's dead weight. Does Tali do the fix?

At the least, people might think twice about messing with quarians.

Of course, Tali's showed her willingness to work with Legion for Shepard's sake already. Legion is a great tool for the moment, he absorbs bullets, dances, and can relay information to the main geth. Once the Reaper War is over however, he's getting dissected.

Sure, why not?  Like it or not, Legion is part of the team, and Shepard thinks he's useful (that's probably the deciding factor).  She's not breaking any rules about creating active geth if Legion's still functional enough to provide instruction.

This, like most of my statements, assumes loyal Legion and Tali.

Buddha, it is now your duty to come up with a suitable pet name.

An old-time poster, Scalpels, suggested "tsa'bet," and I liked that.

Shes'tet.

Ehh... neither rolls off the tongue elegantly quite like "Siha" does. [smilie]../../../images/forum/emoticons/unsure.png[/smilie]

"Keelah" has a nice spiritual feel to it.  "Bosh'tet" has a sting like many cusswords I can't repeat here due to the censor.  A khelish pet name has to sound right.

Does Tali ever talk to Shepard about losing so many people on her missions?

I think the siblant rolls nicely into the hard stop of the "bet."  I can imagine it being said very sweetly (and I wanted to give props to Scalpels).

*Legion lies on his bench in the AI Core. Around him lie a number of replacement parts and tools, and a certain quarian engineer holding a screwdriver.*

Tali: I just want you to know... this doesn't mean I like you.

*Legion gives the 'thumbs-up' sign, then pats her on the shoulder.*

Tali: I know for a fact that your voice actuator is in your chest. You can speak to me.

*Legion ignores Tali, in favor of making shadow puppets on the AI Core walls.*

Tali: EDI, do me a favor and stop teaching him about humor.
EDI: I think he's doing rather well. He seems to have grasped sarcasm.
Tali: *heavy sigh* Fine. Alright Legion, put your arms down so I can get at your collar. The sooner we do this, the sooner I can... do something not involving you.

*Legion makes an enthusiatic gesture with one arm. Oh boy!*

Tali: Are you going to be this bad when I put your head back on?

*Legion shrugs.*

Tali: You're terrible.

*Legion pats Tali on the shoulder again. Tali grumbles in khleish as she gets to work.*

Regarding those boots, she has a combat knife strapped to them. I would enjoy seeing her use it through a DLC or ME3 cutscene, or add it as an ability/melee attack if an enemy gets close. Use Chiktikka then stab the enemy while it's distracted.

A kick in the face can also be categorized as an distraction. Image IPB

I think it's just stylized. I can't say for sure though, I have no artistic talent. In any case, I like the colors they use for her suit.
Am heading to bed though -_-

Another language option is that both Tali and Shepard speak the "Galactic Trade Language" mention in the games codex. Considering that quarians basically have to travel everywhere, it would be no surprise that they would be required to learn Galactic Basic.

Although we hear them speaking In English I believe the characters are often speaking Galactic Basic, including Tali. Her voice is accented which wouldn't make sense if she was speaking a Quarian dialect, and Shepard was having it translated for him into English. In that case her voice would most likely not have an exotic accent. The Quarians that sound like they are from the US or Canada when they speak are probably speaking a Quarian dialect, and Shepard is hearing them in English through their translators. (Kal Reegar, for example)

Indeed. I was just pointing out how funny it is to watch a boss be distracted by a floating ball while 3 very-well armed gunmen blast away at said boss, or get stabbed in the back of the neck in that case.
