I know how you feel, but I am new to this entirely. I figure this will be fun. Also, I don't know if this one has been asked before, but I was talking to a friend and he thought Tali sounded Russian. I thought she sounded Arabic. Can anyone help me settle this?

It's a common Hebrew name, but the syllables "ta" and "li" is probably common enough to exist in combination from other languages as well.

Oh, and returning posters should read this message about posting to the character threads.

My, that's the hightest praise I ever got for a work of mine. Posted Image Thanks. Took me half a day trying to figure out how to remove Femshep's helmet; and I nearly got RSI from blending out the two figurines from the bright background; but all-in-all, I must admit I'm pretty pleased with the result.

Well your effort wasn't in vein, great work^_^.

To bring up another topic: In regards to the Quarian slave on Illium, what do you think Tali would do if she was in Shepard's shoes? I don't really understand the quest myself lol

¿Dont you think it is funny that almost every alien race has a biped structure, almost identical to humans? The "alien" excuse is not very relevant since you see every race in Mass Effect world, except Rachni and hanar, and maybe being generous the Elcor, are extremely close to humans.

It's a science fiction game, and for us, to be able to have empatic vinculations with characters, we have to recognice them as something we understand. That's why they are so human. Looking at tali's face through the visor it shows they have a facial structure close to humans. Maybe she will have pink fluorescent skin with blue glowish eyes and completely bald head, but that would be just a "make up" to make them look like aliens. The human structure is there, the human language is there, and the human morality is there.

About the Slave Quarian in Illium, I think Tali would agree in what a paragon character does: getting her a job to repay her debts. That quarian was not a real slave, but someone sunk in debts due to spending what she didn't have.

You said a lot but I don't know what point you are trying to make.

You wan't quarians just to look like humans with face paint (ala asari), is that it?
Because I personally want something at least as alien as a drell, because like I said "they're aliens".

Were she in Shep's shoes, I doubt she would have the same tact. My shepard persuaded through the situation, Tali just isn't that good at persuasion.

She'd likely whip out her shotgun and threaten the slave broker and make Aethyta go crazy matriarch on her.

It isn't like Tali hasn't fought a Matriarch before, but the last time she had Shepard to you know, do most of it. he is a commando after all.

No no, I dont want anything in particular, but, ¿Do you really think that Drell look Alien? I see a Drell and I dont think they look specially Alien, its just a slightly modified human.

What I tried to say is that the alien concept in Mass Effect is extremely close to humans, and even if Bioware makes them look something close to drells, they will still be very human-like.
If they have to look like aliens because theya re aliens, then make a race with 7 legs, without eyes, and a huge hole full of tentacles as a mouth, something completely different to humans xD.

They really aren't. Turians have metal in their skins and have avian leg structures, similar to the quarians, Batarians, probably the closest to humans other than the asari, have four eyes and no hair, Volus we don't know what they look like but we do know they require high pressures to stay alive, Salarians lay eggs to reproduce and have a very unique body structure (have you seen their chests?), Krogans are very different from humans in some many ways, Elcor walk on four legs, and the list goes on and on.

Bipedal is about the only similarity. Two legs and two arms, but they way they function is so different.

As for Tali's appearance, I would prefer they create something unique. I wouldn't mind if they were like the turians. Not in appearance but in uniqueness. Turians look so dang cool and so unique that something like that for the quarians would be very welcome.

They're not as alien as I'd prefer but they are alien enough to not make me scoff at them (like the asari)

I wouldn't agree with that, alot of the bipedal races of Mass Effect are alien enough.
Turians, krogan and salarians come to mind.
Although I don't expect quarians to have 'that' alien a face but I'd at least want something more alien then say your DP.

But don't you understand that those are just slightly details to make them differ a bit from humans? We have to think that aliens are something from oher worlds, with different conditions, so we dont have to think in anything from earth to begin with. Every biped race in ME has been designed with a human in mind to begin with.

You know, I know a lot of people says " I dont mind how Tali looks, because what I like is her personality", but I would like to see what they say if, instead of the actual tali model, quarians had Rachni or Elcor appearence XD.

I just cant se that much alien a biped race that has the eyes (being 2 or 4, just deails), nose, mouth, arms, hands... exactly in the same place as humans have. Dont missunderstand me, I love the alien races in MAss Effect, is just that, as I said, I dont think any single race has to look "alien" just because they are aliens, since we have seen that this concept is flexible.

I suppose the discussion here is just because we have different concepts of what "alien" means =).

What he said.

Quarians evolved on an alien planet with enviromental conditions that differed from Earth's. They are a completely unrelated species and should not look like humans.

I don't remember that one. Although I loved her reaction to the quarian on the Citadel.
