I've just got an idea for a fanfic - do you guys think that it's possible for Tali to romance Garrus, possibly?

Not really, no. It's debatable whether they're even friends, let alone potentially romantically linked.

I tend to agree with this. The whole "This discussion is over" and "I have a shotgun" don't really portray any real friendship. I don't doubt that they are friends (The "Just like old times Garus" on Omega suggests that they are, but you can't normally hear that), but romantically? No.

I am under the opinion that it is Shepard(the player) and Tali, or no one.

I have no trouble at all thinking Tali and Garrus are friends in ME2. In ME1, they are simply comrades, like the rest of the crew... But after what they went through on the Normandy, and then in the intervening two years I think they would latch onto each other and become close out of a sense of trust and bonding they would share only with the SR1 crew... and out of their mutual respect for and desire to help Shepard. They both know each of them would lay down their lives for the Commander, without hesitation.

Romance? Not likely... Especially with Shepard around. Tali has been starstruck by MShep from the beginning. Garrus never considered interspecies relations until FemShep came around. But friends, good friends at that, I think is a certainty.

My own take on the subject... a fic of Tali's first moments aboard the SR2, when she's badly in need of a friend.

Sergio writes very well, but I'm going to have to go with CannedCream's Tempest for favorite Tali story.

About the only fic of mine you haven't shunned, right?

Heh, thank you, Rune. I really appreciate  it.

Anyway; my personal favorite Tali fic would be NuclearBuddha's Call of the Elder Machines.
While I myself am not terribly familial with HP Lovecraft, Nuke's never-the-less created what might very well be one of the most incredible re-tellings that I have ever seen. I don't even think you need to be a Tali fan to enjoy it. It's simply an INCREDIBLE read.

What can I say? It didn't make me want to roll over and die!
And yes, Buddha is a very good author as well, with Riptide and Azint as well. Would recommend their Tali stories.
(See Buddha! I remembered this time!)

Reckoning is very good, but it's not a 'Tali-Fic' so it doesn't really apply here.

Still; those boys are pulling out all the stops for that one.

Drifting will always be a personal favorite. It's one of only a few pieces that ever actually made me feel enough for the characters to want to weep. It was also inspiration for Reckoning.

Talking strictly Tali, though? Interstitium is freaking amazing. One of the best techinical pieces EVER. If you ever wanted a piece that filled in the plot holes, this is where you'd go.

speaking of fanfictions,

i had one or two, but it's been a while and i forgot the name of the one. Posted Image

however, the tali and shepard fanfics by Calinstel are pretty good imo,
in that "d'awwww" sorta way.
even if some people don't like the main antagonist that develops.

Since I'm being mentioned, I'll post here so my sig can provide the appropriate links.

If you like HP Lovecraft, and you like Mass Effect, and you like horrible, tantalizing implications about Tali, you'll like Call of the Elder Machines.

Adamo is a bit too Tali/Shepard-centric, and fairly sappy.
But it's the good kind of sappy, always manages to put a smile on my face.

My favorite Mass Effect fanfic involving the normal crew is Reclamation.
Sure, it's fairly speculative (resulting in some early things, like the Shadow Broker, becoming false), but it's incredibly well written, and still very realistic. And unlike so many other Tali/Shepard fics, it doesn't forget that Tali and Shepard aren't the only people aboard the Normandy who have a character. Or in some cases, even worth mentioning. (There are plenty of fics that simply ignore the existence of the other characters, or "cleverly" write them out)

My favorite Mass Effect fanfic overall is Liv 'n Rip's Reckoning. Second place is tied between RAGE's Deception, and Reclamation.

edit: And it's Buddha's fics that showed me that fanfic is not necessarily utter crap, waaaaay back. ^_^

I honestly don't have a favorite, I've just been reading loads of them, absorbing ideas like sponge.

That is a brilliant read, NuclearBuddha. I wish I had as much skill at emulating Lovecraft as you do. Love the allusions, too!

Thank you.  I still hope to someday relay the further terrible events surrounding Miss Zorah and Professor Shepard.

So doing another playthrough, noticed something (this has probably been mentioned but w/e).

When Shepard takes Tali's mask off, her voice is still warbly. Can I assume it's because of this?

where her mouth is still attached to some vocal unit? Although i saw the whole mask + vocal unit come off when the mask came off.

Oversight by the developers, maybe?

Maybe she has some translating implants, and not just a vocal unit in the mask. I expect to see some bionic enancements on her.

That picture simply has the glass/visor removed. As far as I can see, in the game, the whole mask came off.

What you are talking about is possibly something to do with the effects that the use when recording the VO audio in the studio.

I can't think of any other reason. It is possible that quarians' have a voice like that even without the mask, but I wouldn't bet money on it.

The entire mask does come off. Likely just laziness from the audio team because it was only 3/4 of a word.

Her voice does change somewhat. They even have two seperate audio files for before and after the mask comes off.

I recommend you check [again/your audio set-up].

So much win! I love the Tali/Garrus friendship idea. And I kinda enjoy the romance idea too, the way Garrus asks Tali about her immune system as such, to me it seems like subtle flirting lol.

Also, given that the whole game more or less takes place from Shepard's perception of things, he could probably still hear her in English through his translator.

Sounded different to me as well, it seemed like a clear voice. It was one of those details that really jumped out at me when it occurred.
