Here's a topic about Tali's father if you want to pitch in.

What career path do you think Rael had in mind for Tali?

Seems like Rael wanted Tali to be the "perfect quarian."
Engineering, no doubt, it seems, was to be the career path. And Tali excelled.
It's also possible he may have wanted Tali to take his place as admiral eventually.

I think so. He was working to retaking back Rannoch, but at the same time was pushing Tali to become her future substitute, to have her prepared for every possible situation. I'd really liked to see a confrontation between him and Shep about... her new path. I guess interspecies relationships are not veyr popular in the quarian culture, especially for someone like Rael was.

To me it seemed Rael really loved Tali but was just too caught up in politics and experiments to do anything. He did promise her a house on the homeworld. I was dissapointed by any lack of consideration of the fatherliness in Rael's last message (German accent was good though, lovin' it). But of course, it probably has to do with himself being tied up in buisness.

Many parents (especially fathers) have a hard time expressing their love to their children. I think Rael was one of those parents.

Tali is an engineering genius, but wasn't the line about her training something about "military training"?

I always felt that line came out of nowhere.

Yes, Shep says something like "You have his strenght, and the best military training of the whole Migrant Fleet".

think of it as 2 seperate idea's.
even if it is and awkward sentence that makes no sense as to where it came from.
to me it seems like a random subject change.

"You have his strength. You also have the best military training of the whole Migrant Fleet".

Well, since the question was about what Rael intended for Tali, I wanted to call attention to the training we specifically hear mentioned: military training. It could be he wanted a warrior "princess."

There's mention of training in ME1, too, I think, but it's specifically that she was prepared for the pilgrimage in any way possible.

Rael's the kind of father who displays his affection indirectly. That could have resulted in her getting the most rigorous and difficult military training the Flotilla has to offer. It's certainly not a stretch, given how quickly she adapts to Shepard's squad in ME1. Tali, at some point in development of ME1, was also considered by the devs of having a sniper rifle, something improbable without some sort of training.

Probably he first forged her into a warrior, thinkin he'll had years to make her a leader enough good to replace him.

He probably wanted her to be a great deal of things. An exemplar of the quarians.

Given her fame within the Flotilla and the game generally describing her as such an exemplar, she's sort of the quarian Shepard.

I like that sentiment.

And already had Spacer.

That makes want to think about what decisions Tali would have made had she been in Shepard's position.

This is a nice vid of the "What was your father like" question.
He really wanted her to be an example, and he really pushed her beyond her limits.

But unlike some other characters, she accepts what she was given, and doesn't fish for sympathy for it. /Not-so-silent jab, all in good fun, of course.

If the man wants to be a ******, let him be a ******. Being voiced by Adam Baldwin only gets you so far, kiddo!

In fairness, it's not just her.  Almost all the squadmates are exemplars of their species.  Even the humans, since the diversity of humanity is kind of a theme in the setting.

Nah, normally I save him just to make happier Tali, but even Shepard wasn't the unique survivor, seeying his personal quest in ME1.

I wouldn't agree 100%, you can't tell me that Garrus portrays the Turians as-is, although other characters such as Legion and Thane are unknowns. As for Tali being an example; in ME1 she was quite Renegade (like when she tells Shepard that dealing with the Geth is more important than investigating an SOS signal from civilians or that killing Wrex calmed down the squad.), while in ME2 she was almost purely Paragon, I'm interested in what she will be like in ME3

Kal survives in my canon.

In ME1Tali was in the middle of the paragon/renegade scale, which I liked.

I happened to catch the little info on EA leeking ME3 info earlier today, about earth in the ME time line if what was revealed was part of ME3. If it is correct it makes me wonder how Tali will feel espcially after what she says to commander Shepard Back on the Aleri, when you mention finding a new colony to settle on. Got a feel she would really feel bad about saying it in ME3 if the leek was true.

But they also don't say when the earth is burning could be the beginning it could also be the middle or end for all we know but yes I think she'd feel quite bad for either Shep. Hopefully they use this to also help flesh out Sheps more human side as well I image dialogue will change if you romanced her vs are just good friends with her either way I hope she does go to Sheps cabin and there is talking about it.
