I am consistently amazed at how many threads pop up discussing some aspect of Quarians in general or Tali in particular. Even the people who claim to hate her cannot stop talking about her. That would certainly suggest to me that she is a compelling character regardless of the love/hate aspect and I hope Bioware takes all the interest as yet one more reason to further explore this awesome character and her people in ME3.

It is the sign of a brilliantly created character if they evoke such strong feelings, whether those feelings are hatred or love. And seeming though Tali seems to get lots of love and hate, this shows that she is a brilliant character! Posted Image.

Mind you, there is hardly any Garrus hate, I hope this isn't a bad sign. But I love how Tali fans are also Garrus fans, they are both so amazing!
Edit: Mesina, I love that New Vegas pic of my fav characters too! Good taste!
Also, here is a Tali for top of the page and Garrus just had to sneak in Posted Image:

Damn! Just played New Vegas so it's in my head. Phaedon posted one of them of Garrus rocking out on an electric guitar. That made my life! I just love rock and metal!

However, Tali, Garrus, Legion (and Thane) are all my favs. Gotta put Wrex in there too.

Their armour all looks mint though, how did (this person) do that? Me being a technology noob and that.

Fallout 3 screenshot and then photoshoped 3 of them in?

Also it's possible that Gmod is used.

A while back someone posted the Tali romance scene from the French translation of ME2, so I thought I'd post it here for anyone that would like to hear it.

www.youtube.com/watch

As a native French, I have to say that I do not like what they did at all... The problem with the French version is that Tali's voice actor lacks emotion. She is reading her lines...and that's it. Liz put emotions into her role, and that's those emotion that make the character "real" in my opinion.

No offense to the French actor though, doing better than Liz is quite hard after all

totally agree. Some people hired for voice actors just believe in reading a line and cash the check. Some still dont understand voice action is a lot harder than normal acting.

hell the dude that plays Admiral hackett said it in an interview. Is a lot harder to convey emotion through sheer sound that with sound and body language.... after all we love his voice :P

Liz did a great job with Tali. I heard she made up Tali's accent too

Dont take it personally :P I just feel like the character is the character, and I don't want it marred by the person who portrays her voice, thats all. Its the same reason I don't want them to reveal her face. Tali's character is hugely about the mystery of her race and physiology, and I feel like a Tali that looks like her voice actress would just be... bleh

Yeah, I know what you mean. When you hear the character's voice, you want to think of the character rather than the VA. No offence to the VA's, they have all done brilliant jobs, and if Liz made up the accent then that is brilliant, because it is unique and totally suits Tali.

My point exactly ^_^

Btw I agree, LS needs to win VA of the decade for her work with Tali, its so good, and I honestly cannot place that accent; I feel like its completely unique as well.

Anyone have any idea what ethnicity the accent is from?

Interesting you would mention "mystery."  There was a discussion about this in Clan Zorah just recently.  Here's what I had to say on the subject:

On a very superficial level she's mysterious. The quarians are kind of a mystery to much of the galaxy, just based on rarity. There was a reason Tali had to be the quarian codex in ME1. And yeah, there are a number of physical questions about her that remain unanswered.

However, on every other level, she's very open. Unlike other characters who are holding something back (Jack, Jacob, etc.) she's front and center in ME1 with the daddy issues. She pretty much avoids every opportunity to be evasive; the only thing she holds back from those not romancing her is that last level of trust: her face.

"Mysteriousness" might not be the best term even for her face. To me, at least, the allure of her face isn't what it might look like (though I'm curious of course, and would like it to be attractive in some way).  But it's the feeling of being special enough, trusted enough to have that shared that would be the real joy.

And yeah, to know that you're the only person really allowed in like that is special, too.

So, ah, tl;dr:  different things about her character appeal to different people.  And for the record, Liz Sroka is a cutie, too.

It's not any ethnicity at all.  Liz made it up.  It's kind of a generic eastern-european sound, though, as might befit a space-gypsy.

Yeah maybe you're right. Its kind of ironic because I'm sure fellow Quarians don't find each others' faces mysterious... or do they?

I'm trying to think of a real-world metaphor of a Quarian revealing his/her face to someone....

Considering its essentially revealing a hugely personal part of your psyche (or at least, it has that effect), I guess you could compare it to revealing a deep, and possibly troubling, personal secret to your significant other, but I honestly cannot think of an exact comparison.

So maybe you could best describe the Quarians as culturally isolated (in the view of the ME universe, obviously) and publicly opaque (not quite mysterious, more like difficult to discern)?

EDIT: ethnicity was the wrong word, I kinda meant what culture/region.

Hey nuclear buddha, just read 'hero.' I really loved it, was hooked to your writing style from the beginning, very detailed and flowing. Brilliant.

It appears that quarians are always integrated as subordinates into 'council races' dominated society. What I mean, is that quarians are given lesser roles for council races because they often behave in a shallow way towards quarians. There is the 'indentured servant,' the 'stole' credit chit incident, the turian and quarian convo, Kenn's salvage situation, and even the way in which Tali is treated in ME1 by the shadow broker and Fist.

Quarians, unfortunately, can only establish themselves in the galaxy by being the underlings. Their faces are never revealed (in public) therefore, people are intimidated by it. Without seeing someone's facial expressions, how can you ever know their motives? Of course, they are recognised for their tech affinity, but the mystery of their 'faces' has effectively put them beneath many other races in the ME universe.

This is my theory anyway. But as Tali is very open with herself and always shows honesty to Shepard, Shepard is able to trust her, so the mystery of her face is an allure rather than something that detracts from Tali overall. But, I think that when quarians find a homeworld and are able to develop their immune system, then we will see them rise in society. Yeah!

Thanks for the kind words!  Hope you liked some of the others, too.

As for the quarians, they get treated like second class citizens because they are.

There are three kinds of species, really.  Full Council Members:  The humans, turians, asari and salarians.  Associate members:  the volus, the elcor, hanar, drell, those kinds of people.

Then there are non-Council races, like the batarians.  The quarians are in this category, too.  They don't have any sort of protection under Council law (other than generic sentients'-rights sorts of things probably).  The Council doesn't give a crap about them because it doesn't have to.

Masked races can make it: look at the volus.  They don't get much respect, but they're an economic force to be reckoned with.

They seem not to show their faces much amongst each other.  After all, Tali says she's never trusted anyone enough to show them her face.  If you're a monster and don't hug her on the Alarei, she mentions that her father never took the sick days to show her his face.

Yeah, the Volus do appear to get more credit than the quarians, probably because they are the turians' client raced. But you make a point that masked races aren't necessarily victimised. It always made me sad though, quarians are my favourite race, and yet, they have definately had it the toughest.

Just read that one in your sig, I shall proceed to read the others, is there a chronology to your fanfic?
