That wasn't really a 'Tali' thing; I played an engineer (which was alot of fun actually, seriously underrated class in both ME1 and 2) and my shield capacity was prodigeous too. It makes alot of sense for Tali though, and I *think* she might have more shields than others in ME2. That or her loyalty skill is designed to compensate. As I mentioned before, it's actually a *really* nasty skill if you use it properly.

But her shields were very high in the first game. Which was the original point.

Hm. TotP Tali:

Just watched the Legion and Tali romance scene. Now that was hilarious. If only Tali knew...

Love the picture above, the armour detail is fantastic, as is the shading on the walls and legs. Must have taken a looong time.

Now, I love Tali as a character (duh!) but nevertheless, I only found her average in combat. Maybe this is due to my preferred class as a vanguard or infiltrator (snipers kick a**.) I found her powers useful, but the might of the shotgun has diminished greatly since Mass effect 1. So for the techy I would prefer Garrus or Legion. Also, Tali and Legion both share the AI hacking and combat drone ability.

On the other hand, in ME1, Tali was a much better at combat. But again, it may just depend on Shepard's class.

Soldier class. Tali gets anything close and Garrus handles the ones that like to hide. And Tali with the geth shotgun is just plain awesome to see.

My playstyle as an infiltrator has me doing most of the heavy lifting in terms of killing things. I don't really need someone else shooting. I do, however, need someone throwing out a drone as a distraction or boosting shields. Tali is a good complement in that regard. There's a place on the squad for support characters, too.

Yeah but there's one massive flaw in your logic, Runescapeguy, if they were supposedly all trained in close quarter combat, why are their shields not more powerful. I would expect Tali to have some of the strongest shields in the game, since her style of fighting is charging in with a shotgun. I guess that her energy drain power does account for that though (and this HAS made Tali useful on insanity, believe it or not), but you'd think the Marines would be better armored if they were all trained in this fighting style.

...you played me1 right?

Course. Though it was a while back. But from what I remember, my team and I were invincible even on insanity, with all upgrades maxed. I don't remember Tali being particularly powerful, but I could be wrong.

Point is, she charges into battle like Miranda, and dies almost instantaneously. Thats all I am saying. From a plot perspective it does make more sense for them to either: 1. Have a ton more armor, such as an exoskeleton to prevent suit ruptures, or 2. be mostly long range fighters (don't forget they dont do a lot of fighting in the Migrant Fleet, mostly on other worlds and stuff).

In ME1 her shields were very much boosted.
Also, she rarely ever dies for me on any mission regardless of dificulty. Much of it is playstyle.

Tali in ME1 was a tank.
Tali in ME2 drops Harbingers and very VERY rarely goes down
Also saved my ass a countless number of times.
Best teammate IMO

I'm sorry but I had a DRASTICALLY different insanity play through than you are suggesting, but as you said its a matter of play style. Honestly though I didn't think she was nearly as useful as some other characters, such as Miranda for example.

Btw are you even referring to insanity mode? Or just normal mode?

But overall, she is the best teammate. B)

All I play on is insanity ;)
Might be playstyle. I play nice and smooth and die about three times each playthrough.
I do think before I do anything too....

Use Tali's drone (or your own, if you're an engineer). It confuses scions so badly they spin in circles.

I have a question for you guys. Do you have any advice about the best ways to use Tali's combat abilities in both ME1 and ME2? I brought her on missions often in ME2, and I brought her on every mission in my last ME1 playthrough, but I haven't been able to figure it out. I'm not used to playing with tech powers, which is part of the problem.

Tali was pretty much a mainstay when I had to fight Scions on insanity. That drone really screws with their AIs. She isn't too shabby with area drain and a room full of shielded enemies either. I think she only dropped once on LotSB while I wasted so much medigel to keep Liara and Shepard alive.

Yeah a lot of things are possible. I'm not very good at micromanagement (much better in RTS games though) in ME2, and its possible you're just better than me. I also haven't played with her with the new shotgun, except for LotSB where I discovered she is actually very useful. I think I've also discovered what makes here much better as a squad member: energy drain. This is bar none the most useful power in the game. It keeps her alive longer, and also totally drains shields from most enemies.

But again, I think Miranda is a better choice in most situations. Maybe Tali and Miranda would make a good team.

I still hold true to my point that Tali, and the AI in general, are braindead on insanity.

I've used her drone correctly a few times, and it was awesome. I guess I'm not very good with drone placement though, because sometimes they just ignore it.

Are there more shielded enemies on levels above Casual? Most of the time, I only get to use powers that effect shields in missions that involve geth.

Hardcore and Insanity, EVERYTHING has shields or barriers and usually armor, too.

Tali's energy drain comes into its own.

Blue Suns, some Eclipse (I think), geth, and Shadowbroker agents all have shields on hardcore and insanity.

Does that make Tali more useful on higher difficulties then? That's great for her, not so much for my Shepard. I tried Insanity only once as a joke and lasted about seven minutes.

Mechs.  All the frigging mechs.  Not that mechs are that big a deal when you have two characters with AI hack and one with disruptor ammo.

She still requires careful managing.  Any squadmate does, really.  Gotta position them carefully and think things through.

I haven't tried very often to position squadmates. Does Tali do well in close combat with the shotgun, or is it better to keep her at medium range?

LOKI mechs have armor.
