It's an illness that is their cultural equivalent on a hangover.

So...Tali is a vegetarian?

All quarians are. But more out of  necessity (less resources than to keep livestock on the ships) than ethical reasons.

Which is why they trip over themselves for "exotic cuisine" whenever the Flotilla enters a turian system.

Tali was driving the Hammerhead on Aite and was the one plowing through the space cows for Gardner to cook.

Hey, space cows could be dextro-amino.

And I am vegetarian. How nice. Though, couldn't the purified Turian cuisine have meat in it? Or perhaps I am thinking erroneously.

as for quarians living outside the flotilla: i think, they would actually do that. I mean, Tali mentions that a quarian that gets exiled still can have kids and those would be welcomed back to the flotilla. So I take it there are quite some quarians out there and if the quarians would actually get the chance to liv some place safe, who knows, some might do it. So the pilgrimage should be about learning how to survive and not going to another save place.

It's very vague and could mean anything.

Hell, it could mean that she is eating a turian :P

Tali mentions that she always assumed something bad happened to the Quarians who left on pilgrimage. Turns out, nothing on the Flotilla beats a good steak.

Actually, I do think that the fleet would have a serious issue with Quarians leaving permanently after a pilgrimage if it weren't for the fact the rest of the galaxy treats them like second-class citizens.

Some quarians aren't even allowed to leave the fleet on a Pilgrimage, because they're too valuable. I guess the ship captains can pull that card a few times, just in case they think few pilgrims will return.

There is the possiblilty that the quarian pilgrims don't have to come back. But the way they are raised (loyalty to their people above all else) makes them return more often than not.

I can't remember which conversation with Tali brings it up. But I recall her mentioning "I can never abandon my people, Shepard" if you mention something about her staying.

It probably depends on where you go. Human colonies like Freedom's Progress haven't likely been exposed to the quarian prejudice. Doesn't Tali mention something about most pilgrims going to population centers like the Citadel?

It's during the conversation where she talks about the pilgrims that never come back. Her case is an exception though, her father is an admiral that really drilled home about the Flotilla coming first.

Really? Interesting. I thought all Quarians were required to go on pilgrimage.
At the surface, you'd think a seemingly controlling father like Rael would be against Tali going on pilgrimage, to protect her. But really, it makes sense. It seems like Rael wanted Tali to be the perfect Quarian. And daughter. The former would demand her going through the cultural rite of passage.

I don't think they will allow someone to leave the Flottilla without consequences, Tali says that every Quarian has to help, and allow youngs to leave the Flottilla surely doesn't help the Quarians to survive.

There is always talk about tali eating turian food but has anybody considered the possibility of getting traditional quarian food for her. In the span of time between when the turians became a space faring race, and the quarians were exiled from ranoch there could have been trade between both species and considering that they are in the dextro minority livestock, produce, beverages and the like may have been exchanged between the both of them. It might be possible to go to that guy on the citadel and get some quarian food from him.

During the height of their reign, yes, it's very likely quarian plants/animals were traded. Now whether or not anyone bothered to maintain a viable breeding stock of animals is up in the air. They definitely have vegetation though, it's how they make their paste.

Do the quarians ever take the luxury of removing their helmets to eat, though? Just seems like at this point in time, anything catering to the quarians specifically would be manufactured for nutrition first and possibly taste for the more expensive items.

Like a test.

I also think that Tali was allowed to go on Pilgrimage because she already knew so much about the fleet,  and Rael wanted her to gain more knowledge about technology, different cultures, races and whatnot, so she could be a good asset to the fleet.

The Admiralty Board sending her on suicide missions counters this theory, though.

Quarians use feeding tubes to eat. And I think nutrient paste is either bland or tasteless (the vegetable kind they eat anyway)

So it probable Tali has never eaten anything in a solid form or with any kind of taste.

Well My line of thought was that some turians may have devloped a taste for the quarian food and thus maintained a supply of them.

Well it's not like the Admiralty Board has to think beforehand that the missions were dangerous. Freedom's Progress and Haestrom were supposed to be fairly safe missions. The former was to just pick up Veetor from an abandoned colony. The latter was to research the star there in a place where the Geth weren't supposed to be.
