@ Roxanna I didn't start loving Tali until ME2. We didn't get much of an insight into her personality in the first game, as she was just telling us about quarian culture. She did mature a lot after Shepard's death, possibly because she felt she had to live up to her father's example. And the info she brought back from her pilgramage proves invaluble.
But I wouldn't have called her childish in ME1, naive perhaps, but not childish.

Same here, though I found her to be a pretty interesting character to have around in ME1.  The little comments she makes in game, not to mention her morally-neutral stance on a lot of things was a refreshing change from Liara's bleeding heart approach and Ashley's 'who cares it aint human' attitude.

While I was happy enough with Liara being an LI, ME1's Tali was much better to simply walk around with.

I instantly took a liking to her in the first game. There was something about her that just made want to talk to her for hours on end. It dawned on me what it was while I was playing ME2. I knew what it was from that point on.
i had developed that attachment to her.

Yeah she and Garrus have always been my favorites, even in the first game. I felt like those two had the most fleshed out personalities (well maybe not Garrus in the first game), but compared to bland Liara and Kaiden and the overly intense / ridiculous Ashley, they were the best. Wrex was good too but for some reason I never liked him as much as Tali and Garrus.

I always had team dextro with me in ME1, I loved quarians, and I thought Tali was ace, but the love didn't hit me until ME2. She had gained a level in badassery, and I certainly approved! Mind you, even though a lot of her conversations were quarian codex entries, Liz had done such a great job on her voice that I didn't mind!
Wrex was also awesome. But that goes without saying.
I agree about Liara and Kaidan, although Liara was fleshed out more in LotSB.
And yeah, if a quarian pounces on you, it does tend to send that sort of message :D

+1.

It's incredible how those fictional characters can be fascinating.

I quite liked Ash. I always saved her on Virmire and went single in ME1. But don't tell the Kaidan gals ;)
But the aliens (Tali, Garrus and Wrex) were so much more diverse and had more depth as characters. Even more so in the second game.
Just a quick question, Garrus can't be romanced if he wasn't recruited in ME1, and so you haven't built that trust. Is it the same with Tali?

Edit: Just remembered, even though I always recruit Tali right away, you have to recruit her because Uldina makes Shepard take her along. Whereas Garrus doesn't have to be recruited.

Ashley is good (never romanced her, though), but what made me not like her as much because she makes comments like "I can't tell the aliens from the animal." I agree with Tasha vas Nar Rayya on that the aliens are much more diverse and deep. I also find them to be better developed.

No it's not. She'll have a crush for you whathever you did in ME1. That's a bit odd I admit it. Her personal quest was a bit hidden, but at least if you explicit refuses to give her the datas for her pilgrame she shouldn't be romanceable in ME2 imho. Inf fact if you refuses to give her datas she says that understand your reasons but then she stops to talk with you.

I find it especially odd that you can treat Tali like s*** in ME1 and 2, and she will still have a crush on you. That was something I didn't particularly like. Although why anyone would actually choose those dialogue options is beyond me... I am playing KotOR at the moment, and all the 'dark side' dialogue options all involve being awful to your crew. I much preferred the renegade options in ME2, but I was never nasty to my crew. Especially not Tali.

I always gave Tali her data too. So I always had that conversation option when you first see her.
As for Ashley, I like that she spoke her mind and was a gutsy gal. But although she isn't as bad as Cerberus, she still dislike aliens. And I prefer the aliens to the humans in Mass effect.
And Ramirez, please, just call me Tasha/Tash. Less of a mouthful. Posted Image

There are so many factors that apply here, it is difficult to analyze them all.

1. Do not think like a human while analyzing her behavior to Shepards interaction with her. Her perception of "good" or "normal" is not the same as ours.

2. Remember, Quarians are used to being treated badly.

3. Worst case scenario she still get the chance to work on the most advanced frigate in the galaxy and in an effort to save all sentient life in the galaxy. If she dies, she dies for a noble cause.

4. Logic plays nearly no role in psychology.

Yep, in general you can literally ruin Tali's life if you want... I won't ever understand why I should act so, but so it is. At least in KotOR you had the Dark Side motivation to be a jerk with the crew... but being Renegade in ME simply means to become a vigilante instead of an hero... so why some renegade decisions have to be so drastic? The funny thing is that the only time I use the renegade speech on Tali is at the beginning of the romance, because I love the line "Wait... are u blushing under that helmet?" "N-no! It's the fever!"

And yes, with just a few exceptions (Kasumi over the others) ME's aliens >>>>> ME's humans imo.

Ah, personally, the willingness of Tali or any other LI to put up with being treated like crap is a game limitation.

At least Tali has limits she will not allow to be crossed, like in her loyalty mission or the loyalty conflict with Legion.

But you do bring up a good point:  "Captain" seems to be a powerful figure for quarians, culturally.  Tali certainly saw Shepard through the prism of that role in ME1, and it probably carries over someone into ME2.

Edit:  And then there are the daddy issues...

People can take a certain amount of emotional / verbal battering and still have some attraction remain. Although it is unlikely that Tali has NOT reached this threshold, it is certainly possible that anyone else might. As said, you can be a total jerk to her and she'll still like you, but you being the Captain means a lot to her. So does... you know, saving her once and then again from Geth capture...

Tali may encounter some verbal abuse from humans (Terrafirma) in ME3, depending on how things play out (such as her being a squaddie or how much of Earth will be in the final product). She has become used to it though, as most people view the quarians with disdain. The only person that really got to her was the volus on the Citadel. Shepard much less so.

@the people who quoted me :P

I didn't mean to come across as meaning Tali was a giddy little girl.. not at all my meaning. I meant she came across to me as an almost adorable young, happy woman.. with most of her innocence intact. In ME2 she has "grown up" alot, mostly by force. She and Legion are by far and away my favorite chars. so far. I'm sorry if I use the wrong words sometimes.. even after 18 years in the States.. its still hard for me to find the right words to express what i mean at times.

I got what you meant:  in ME1 the galaxy is a new and amazing place to her.  The only thing she had known beforehand, despite all her training, was the interior of the Flotilla.

I understand what you mean. Tali came off as a lot more inexperienced and youthful in ME1 than in ME2.  In ME2 she seemed to understand the world outside of the Flotilla much better, and used that to be stronger and more assertive.

Plus Shepards death would have made Tali mature a little more. Without Shep everyone scattered and went on with their lives. Sadly Shepard's death showed Tali the harsh realities of the world. It would have made her stronger as an individual to endure that, but it's still pretty sad none the less.
