The Admiralty Board sending her on suicide missions counters this theory, though.

Well it's not like the Admiralty Board has to think beforehand that the missions were dangerous. Freedom's Progress and Haestrom were supposed to be fairly safe missions. The former was to just pick up Veetor from an abandoned colony. The latter was to research the star there in a place where the Geth weren't supposed to be.

The planet was still within geth space. I'd at least classify that mission as "dangerous"

Hmm? Part of a Cerberus News thing?

Yep.

I think it's quite possible that quarian food is still floating around somewhere for any number of reasons. And as for leaving the Flotilla, it's not just as simple as leaving your home. How many people would really give up seeing their family again for some steak? Some surely, but I know I sure as hell wouldn't and I'm nowhere near as communal or group oriented as the quarians. And I think they do want quarians to learn about their culture by getting a new perspective on it, but sending a green kid to some place like Omega just seems silly. Really? What the heck were Ken's parents thinking letting him go there? Not that Lia was having a good time of it on the Citadel either... My point is I think you can still be challenged and learn to appreciate your native culture without having to live in a turian shelter and getting all your money stolen. That seems sort of...excessive.

Quarians face severe racism. That adds to the potential unpredictability of the Pilgrimages. Something that could seem relatively innocuous or not too much trouble could be tarnished because someone doesn't like Quarians.

True, but Omega still seems like a really bad idea.  Tali picked the Citadel and it worked out for her, well, Shadow Broker incident aside, but that was because she had the data on Saren and not specifically because she was a quarian.

Maybe some quarians don't have parents or any family on the flotilla, so they've just decided to find a better life?

That reminds me of a certain quarian we know.

Yea. I'm trying to wrap my head around it. Maybe sending someone to Omega would be cheaper? Plus there would be less immigration restrictions. And I imagine that it would be easier for a Quarian to get a low-paying job - I doubt that Omega is really picky. Still, seems pretty irresponsible. But the Quarians do have to make sacrifices in general, just for being Quarians. It's very sympathetic.

If you've read Tali's SB dossier, she didn't exactly keep a low profile of who she was.

And I don't think quarians who ended up on Omega did it by choice. It's pretty tough for quarians on the Citadel. Tali was interrogated for hours before she was allowed in the wards.

Quarians consider every member of their race a member of their "family" I doubt even her love of Shepard could make her give up her love for her own people. Tali is loyal to them to a fault.

Or course there are going to be some bad apples (like the serial killer and Golo) but Tali is the pinnacle of what her race aspires to (kind of like most of the aliens you recruit are the best of their species) so she is going to be absurdly loyal to her people and is going to think of them before she thinks of herself

Though her loyalty mission may have shaken her views a little bit.

She takes her possible exile pretty easy. Like she just want it to be dealt with and go do something that really matters.

But I guess she knows that she can do a lot more for her big family when she's with Shepard. Maybe that's why.

I never thought about this.  Do you think it was hard for Tali to readjust to the flotilla after the comparative opulence she had on her Pilgrimage?  Or do you think she never got comfortable with said opulence to begin with?

In her loyalty mission she mentions how the pilgrimage spoiled her about the great big galaxy.  It was probably hard to go back, actually.

Do you guys make much of the fact that those two wine glass remain in Shep's room for Tali along with everybody else, or do you just chalk it up to gameplay mechanics?  I guess what I am asking is that do you think Tali really just gets nutrient paste on the Normandy?  Doesn't the codex say the quarians splurge for new and exotic tastes when they get the chance?  And the Normandy SR2 is an excellent chance to splurge.  Surely, there must be some way they can get ahold of solid food now and again in some way that is safe.

Conservation of game resources.

Quarians do splurge, but that's on the migrant fleet where they've got all the resources to do custom sterilization and clean eating spaces and such.  Probably less so on the SR2.

She doesn't feel bad about being exiled because she got herself "exiled for the good of the fleet"

It's not fair, i want Liara to stay into Shepard's cabin:crying: Tali has the engine room:P

There was a companion to this edit that had Miranda listed as being in the engine room.

But Liara is welcome to stay in your Shep's cabin.

Do the quarians ever take the luxury of removing their helmets to eat, though? Just seems like at this point in time, anything catering to the quarians specifically would be manufactured for nutrition first and possibly taste for the more expensive items.

This seems to be more rare than we usually think:

Tali barely knew what her father looked like because he didn't take sick days to remove his helmet for her.

In her recruitment and loyalty missions we see Tali doubting her government. That's part of her character evolution. She's still loyal to her people, but she's not necessarily to her government. For one thing, the Quarian government obviously does not always act in a way that would ultimately benefit the Quarians, or in a way that is right.

I think they're more acting on what they can gain personaly sometimes.

Well that was essentially what the trial was. They were using Tali for their own agendas. I assume that Korris was behind it all, but I'm not sure. May have been Gerrel too.

True. Tali went from being one of the most idealistic people you recruited in the original Mass Effect to being pretty pessimistic at points in Mass Effect 2 due to her experiences. It is what makes her one of my favorite characters.

Pretty scary that the damn blood-thirsty krogan is the most happy person you recruit.

Tali went to the Citadel specifically to try to sell her captured data.  A better example of a quarian who went there looking for work is Lia'Vael.

Scary and really, really funny.  I really hope those darn quarians will actually listen to Tali and Shep in ME3.  They could be heading for some really nasty places if they aren't careful.
