If you're refering to how the Migrant Fleet relies on wealth from capitist economies to survive, then I totally agree with you. Were it not for the support given to the Migrant Fleet by the systems they passed though, and the gifts brought back by Quarians on pilgramige, the Migrant Fleet's economy (and government) probably would have collapsed a long time ago. BTW I love how you said the Quarians have a commie government that works the right way. Oh the irony.Ramirez Wolfen wrote...
But to be on topic, I think the Quarians have a communist government that works the right way.

I would like to interrupt the economics discussion for just a moment, if I may. I'm in the middle of a fan-fic, and I just can't get this scene with Tali to feel right so I thought I'd come ask the experts.
The scene in question has an ex-cop asking (trying to subtly interrogate)Tali about what the Normandy is up to, and I fully believe that Tali would put up with it for only a short time to be polite, but the inevitable "bug off!" response doesn't feel right. Thoughts?

Ooh, it looks like the quoted Nod entry was deleted. I see the one person quoting it, but not the actual post.
On topic, how could anyone say that about a holy figure/deity figure if that one is a Tali/Quarian fan? If you like Tali, you have to accept her, politics, religion and all (minus the blind fury of "racism" when it comes to the geth. That can and should be overcome).
Also, I'm a Catholic. Strongly so, I would say (for the most part). Those ideals are a big part of who I am. And yet, when I see people in real life or on the boards attacking it, I shrug it off. They feel differently, and have a right to feel so. This may sound trite, Nod (and I'm not trying to be insulting), but maybe try not to take everything so personally?

[b]Has Tali ever said that she actually believes in Keelah? Has she ever confessed being the pious Quarian? As far as I can tell, Tali's a smart enough woman to not believe in superstitions.
Yes, you're a Catholic. You don't have to live your entire goddamn life knowing that as soon you admit being a Catholic you'll get mocked and insulted for it. And I take things personally, when they basically control every decision I make. These ideals may be a big of part of who you are, but my ideals are what makes me who I am. I understand why people have different views, and have nothing but respect for them, and I accept people saying Communism is bad, IF they have a good reason for it. People who go around saying that Communism is tyrannical and unjust without ever backing it up. That what makes me react.
Note: The bolded parts are about Tali. See? I'm being on-topic. No need to ban me.

Religion
The quarians used to practice a form of ancestor worship. This involved taking a personality imprint from the individual and developing it into an interface similar to a VI. The quarians began experimenting with making these imprints more and more sophisticated, hopefully leading to the wisdom of their ancestors being preserved in an imprint that could be truly intelligent. However, the geth destroyed the quarians' ancestor databanks when they rebelled. Some quarians saw their subsequent exile as punishment for their hubris, but most accept that the geth rebellion was a mistake, not a punishment.
However, respect for their ancestors is still prevalent in quarian society. Admiral Shala'Raan vas Tonbay opens an Admiralty Board proceeding offering thanks to their ancestors, who saved them from the geth by founding the Migrant Fleet.
Tali sometimes exclaims "Keelah!" when shocked; in Mass Effect 2 many quarians offer the phrase "Keelah se'lai" as an apparent benediction or religious oath. This word may refer to a figure in quarian religion, or it may be part of their reverence toward their ancestors. It is often said in the same vein as "peace be with you" and resembles the Islamic الله أكبر (transliteration: Allāhu Akbar, English: 'God is Greatest'), the Christian Deus Vult (Latin for 'God Wills It'), or the Hebraic "ברוך אתה אדוני" (transliteration: Baruch Atta Adonai, English: 'Blessed are you, God').

Ah, true. However we dont know the meaning of the work Keelah, nor Tali`s opinion on it, assuming it is a religous figure.Nodscouter wrote...

I think she'd blow the guy off up until the point he insulted something near and dear to her, in other words either Shepard or the Normandy. Insult her, she walks off. Insult most of the crew, she walks off. Insult Garrus, she'll add to it, then walk off. Go after her Commander or her ship, though, it's she might get angry enough to be defensive. If your ex-cop keeps it up, expect another "I have a shotgun" moment.
But if the dude is being subtle, I think she'd likely let it go, maybe with a brief disgusted look before getting back to whatever she was doing.

However the Geth were just as, if not more technical and technology focused than the Quarians, and a percentage of them still worshipped the Reapers. My farther says that religion is merely a form of brainwashing designed to suppress natural human behaviors (such as aggression). I don't fully agree with that statment, but I do think its possible for a being, human or quarian, to be both intelligent and religious.
