There are two Team Shepards as far as the games are concerned.

ME1 - Shepard, Wrex, Garrus.
ME2 - Shepard, Garrus, Legion.

Tali is a Kaylee Frye kind of character, she keeps the ship running at optimum efficiency and you don't risk her life by dragging her into combat situations.

I'm being nervously optimistic. The comment from bioware a few pages back helped. Either they're just holding out or they're waiting until their flame retardant suits arrive.

I for one hope that Tali can use her technical skills in more practical ways in ME3, like...if Shep orders her to hack a door or a vault, she'll run over there, take a few seconds to work her magic, and then it's open.

Anyway I highly doubt they'll simply abandon Tali in ME3, short of her being killed in the suicide op. If she's not a squad member she'll probably be like Liara was in ME2, there to talk to but not a direct player.

I saw the launch trailer on youtube. The half second or so Tali was on screen made me wonder what she was so I played the first game.

Why do you care? Different people like Mass Effect for different reasons. I loved ME2 but that had nothing to do with its plot.
