Going out to eat should be no problem. It would provide an opportunity to learn about quarian culture when Tali starts eating slushfood from a tube.

OK, I had others say she might be uncomfortable.  It would be a good chance to get to know Tali and the quarians from Shepard's perspective, but I'm worried how Tali would feel about it all.  If she would even agree to it.  I was thinking she'd be excited to go, but I also had doubts.

Tali seemed very curious about the world outside the Flotilla in ME1. I don't remember her acting shy once in that entire game.

I think Tali would say that Shepard doesn't have to do that for her. She's a rather selfless person.

Quarians could feel uncomfortable eating in public - but ultimately it depends on the individual person. In the Eternity Bar we see a Quarian who seems comfortable enough. Of course, she's with a friend.

I think Tali would be fine been taken out to dinner with friends, but acquaintances could potentially be awkward. Because of how Quarians eat.

As BTG said, Tali is not shy. She's shy in her romance, but otherwise not at all.

If the quarians can eat food in those canisters, I don't really see what the big deal is. Many people eats differently.

Yes, by this time, Shepard has been quite friendly to Tali, so I think she would be comfortable enough. This occurs after the first main mission (Therum) so Tali has been on the ship for a decent amount of time. Plus, my Shepard is an Engineer and did spend some time with her talking 'shop', so to speak.

I'm assuming the Citadel would have restaurants that would cater to both quarian/turians as well as humans (Garrus is going along as well).

I think I will go with dinner then...it should be interesting to write. Thanks for the answers!

This is part of something that bugs me.
The only time Tali is shy is during her romance. You can't base her entire character off of it. She is strong willed, brainy, and a multitude of other adjectives that can't be put across in her romance alone.

I guess some people think the romance portraits Tali's whole personality.

I distinctly remember people having that misconception in the ME1 days. Something about her makes people think she's shy.

I personally would go for the night club. Maybe shep can actually learn how to dance from tali. Yeah. "Dance."

\\

But I think just taking them out for lunch will be a better situation to talk in. Not as many naked asari strippers in your face.

Tali as a whole is not a shy person. But I can understand why she would be shy about her feelings during the romance. For one thing, when one lives in the crowded Flotilla, one's inner most thoughts are among the only semblance of privacy one would have.

Come to think of it, Tali opened up to Shepard right away or at least quicker than any of the other squadmates. "YOUR SHIP IS AMAZING SHEPARD!"

She also expressed her feelings before Shepard [though it slipped out through the suit conversation]. Not some bumbling shy machine people say she is.

It's the helmet. Outside of that she is probably the least anti-social person you recruit in both games. She loves to talk.

I think the fact that she's young, female and a bit on the brainier side might have something to do with it too. Kal'Reeger was never accused of being a sheltered introvert.

Tali can be just as assertive as any other squadmate.

Yeah, I don't want to write Tali as shy, as there's no romantic attraction between her and my Shepard. However, I do want to develop a close friendship between the two over the course of the fic. I was also going to develop a friendship between her and Liara, as I think that would be most interesting.

That'd be interesting. Based on her logs on Haestrom, I can see Tali having an interest in ancient Quarian architecture/artifacts. Liara probably has a rudimentary knowledge about the same thing.

Notice that Liara said, in LotSB DLC, "And she's been awestruck ever since you brought her onto the Normandy 2 years go." To which he replied with, "I wish you had said something sooner." Which she replied with, "And save you the fun of finding out on your own?"

I think it's obvious that she meant Tali was awestruck with him.B)

Just out of curiosity, does anyone else create supplemental stories in their head when playing this game? For example, as far as I'm concerned during Kasumi's mission, Shepard stole, or had Kasumi steal, the quarian tablets as a gift for Tali.

In my head i hear, "Kasumi: Let's go!" Shepard: "Wait!" *breaks glass* "Ok, lets move!"

Sometimes. Mostly to avoid Shepard's stupidity and to treat Tali better than he actually does.

Tali: "Shepard, the main hub is across the room."
Garrus: "Ah damn, there's a Geth Prime working on it."
Shepard: ".... Is that a Quarian ship model on the desk?"
Garrus: :wizard:
Tali: <_<

Anyway, yeah, I do try to fill in the blanks as much as possible in the game. And usually rewrite the missions in my head where more than two squadmates decide to take on an entire army of mercs with Shepard.

Ya thats always bugged me. Taking Tali along during, say, the Shadow Broker mission. Why would I take a squishy Quarian in an enviro-suit along to take out an army of some of the game's most advanced enemies?

Because she has the strongest tech abilities (besides perhaps Legion, but bringing a Geth comes with it's own disadvantages) on the squad. And tech abilities are very useful.

Because that 'squishy quarian' is a technological genius that tears everything up close range.

I don't really like taking Tali to the final battle with the Shadowbroker. His comment about her and Liara's response really just don't mesh well.

Also Kasumi better be giving that quarian poem book to Tali as a gift.
