I always wondered why Tali was regarded as a weak squadmate to have with you, considering combat drone is an extremely useful ability. The GPS is also ridiculously OP.

Well, I jsut took her on the collector ship mission, and she drained my medigel. I think it has to do with her health. I had her use the GPS and her Combat drone was level 3. Luckily I took Grunt too so I used him as her meat shield from teh preatorian on and she didn't die again. jsut my experiene though and I chuckled a bit when she killed a Harbinger and said "eat that"Posted Image

But back on topic:bandit:  yeah im actually playing Overlord dlc right now as we speak, (xbox hooked into PC and they share a widescreen plasma monitor). Shes honestly playing like this is gears of war and just making me and garrus catch up.

*edit* i think she just curbstomped a geth, or at least it looked like she was about to. Look out Dom n Marcus.

What difficulty was that on? For me, my squad mates almost never die on normal.

The problem with Tali is she acts like a front line fighter when she's really a controller. I manually keep her back behind cover and have her send out the drone and hack machines to keep the rush at bay.

To be honest, the only difficulties i had in regards to keeping squad mates alive were hardcore and insanity. Im convinced its impossible to have them alive for more than few seconds on insanity.

Glad you're giving her a chance (not sarcasm). I really believe all the squad member's can be played well if we give them a chance. Everybody has their favorite's, including me, but I like to learn to play them all with their strengths. It just doesn't make sense for me to hate any of them.

Sometimes Tali is too aggresive with her shottie and you end up having to back her up! or heal her up.

I've learned that Chiktikka works best on big enemies that takes a moment to turn around. Looks so funny when a Scion doesn't know which one of us it's supposed to shoot.

That's definitely the best time to deploy Chikktika!

on the subject of chikktika, is it better to make it combat or explosive?

I made mine explode the first time, it was kind of sinister. It'd just glide up to people like "oh hey hows it goi-'BOOM.

Worked wonders in the long run, but at a glance it may not seem like its doing much.

*edit* We still gotta put pictures in?

Just me, but I usually go with combat drone. I use it more for distraction so I can get in close, or another position or take the shot.

I think the explosive one's better. She can't stay alive for long once she's drawn the aggro, so she can might as well go out with a bang.

Idk. It seems like making it the combat drone does not do enough damage. I ask because wouldnt it be more effective to just suicide the drone, then use the ability again right away? That way you could just spam the exploding drone.

Tali works best on missions when you are dealing with Scions, for some reason, combat drones really screw with their AI and cause them to flip out.

The drone is probably the most powerful ability in the game once you learn how to use it.

I always use the combat drone, the explosive one is just like a time grenade. The combat one is the most useful stuff in the game if you know where to place it in the war path. Just put it against a weak enemy and the drone will kill him while other enemies shoot only to the drone. So you can easily shot down other enemies. or while the drone is keeping busy a strong enemy you can snipe his head killing him fastly, etc etc etc

 SLIGHTLY off topic here,

I'm currently writing a FanFic and was wondering if it would be fundamentali wrong to give Tali a Proboscis.  Nothing to weird, but just wondering if it sound too strange.

I don't think Quarians have a proboscis. They would press up against the visors and make them all weird.

The only things we know about Tali's face is that she has humanoid shaped eyes and nose. So a proboscis wouldn't be canon, but hey, however you wanna imagine Tali.

Also, I find Tali to be very similar to Jack in the way that she goes right up to enemies with a shottie, guns a blazin', without a thought about opposing gunfire.

Gotta love them two :D

The novels defined the quarian face as "surprinsingly human". No proboscid. But the dude joined the board a pair of hours ago or so, and that was his first post... hmmm...

This. I believe the AI is different for each squaddie based on their loadouts and talents alone, and the reason I find Tali + Garrus/Jack the most useful is because I choose them the most, and developed a good sync. I only play on Insanity, and the toughest parts (Horizon, derelict CS, SM) was actually more difficult when I took a different, "technically" more effective squad.

I notice that at the times when I didn't direct the squad's positioning, their AI was truly illuminated, and I would see Grunt with an AR resisting a charge and staying by me while Miranda took her Locust 30 feet ahead right of the enemy where she crumbled to the ground on more than a few occasions. Some squaddies are just too antsy and can't stay in one spot while others seen to root themselves. I swear Zaeed and Garrus both sniping act completely different. I rarely even saw Zaeed he was all over the place, while Garrus liked to stand near me and I'd accidently shoot him and he'd say "Sorry, I was in your way" lol what a guy.

DISCLAIMER: This is just in my experience.

As I said above, all the shotgun users have this tendency. The GPS is such a blessing for it's range so I don't see that too often anymore. All the other shotties require them to get way too close, but the real blessing for me is when any squadmember doesn't leap on top of cover where there is none, crouch, and take fire till they collapse. I saw Miranda and Jacob do this the most and couldn't understand why (I sometimes wouldn't direct them so it wasn't a positioning error). So I gave up. Maybe I need to give them another chance.

Yeah, I loved both the new weapons from Kasumi's DLC. A real blessing for shotgun users. I think that is the only reason I prefer Legion in combat, because he can use snipers. Although energy drain is a b****

Also, the guy asking about proboscis on Tali sent me a PM saying he needed brain bleach after seeing my sig :D

Speaking of sigs, Goat, love the tats or GTFO sig!
