I've always been an earthbone and sole survivor heh
I like the idea that even if we can't relate where we come from, that doesn't stop us for loving each other. And besides... now that the Reapers will focus on Earth... they will have something to relate oTL, especially if humanity is driven away from Earth.

I remember she remarks on sole survivor.

I don't remember that.
As far as I know, she doesn't comment on background/psych profiles period.
She does comment 2 of the following decisions in her romance, though:
Feros Colony (Saved/Killed)
Wrex (Killed)
Virmire

As far as I know, she comments on Feros. Then Wrex if he was killed, otherwise Virmire.

Tali likes heroes. Ergo: War Hero.

All the backgrounds can work. Least of all probably ruthless, though. But even that one you can fit to some degree.

I think Earthborn suits Tali a lot (but like Collider said, any of them could fit.)

Growing up with limited resources and in a tough environment gives them something in common anyway.

I know that you are relating these to Tali, but just keep in mind that these variables effect how many paragon or renegade points you get for all your decisions. Just keep that in mind if you want it to be a serious play through.

I'd like if a Spacer could talk spaceships with Tali. Mix things up a bit from all the talk about the immune system.

A serious play through? Every one of my play throughs is serious to me. And, since I only play a Paragade, not too worried either. :)
Tali was made for Paragade!

For paragades, Colonist and sole survivor are the best combo, because they give a small bonus to both renegade and paragon actions.

As long as you don't pick the renegade options at Freedom's Progress, I don't see why a Renegade path wouldn't work. Just be supportive when you find out you're her council, pick the Renegade options at the console on the Alerei (the conversation is a bit less confrontational then telling her they should find a new home, that pisses her off), take the paragon interrupt, and rip into the council with the intimidate defense. Other than that, she seems fine with a Renegade Shep. She likes it when you shout :)

Colonist and Sole Survivor are my Canon Shep's chosen backgrounds.

It's interesting to me that no matter what option you choose on the Alarei, Tali argues for the opposite option.  Suggest finding a new world?  It would take forever!  Suggest that what Rael did was good?  She's weary of trying to win Rannoch back.  Interesting insight into her character and mentality, I think, and the same goes for the Quarian population in general, as well.

Well she does say in the loyalty mission wrap-up that the Quarian people love to debate. But having done both, I felt as though she got more pissed at me when I chose the paragon options over the Renagade ones. Maybe it was just my imagination. Even though there would be many challenges facing her people should they retake the homeworld, she definitely does not want to let the Geth win.

I love colonist/war-hero, because you basically retaliate and it's all good. B)

I just got ascension. Can't wait to read it. I think have now totally given myself over to mass effect/Tali fandom. Might as well get some Tali suit patterned bed sheets to go with it. ;)

Bed sheets that have glow in the dark Wrexs and Normandys.
Also, be prepared to hate Cerberus even more in that book

Me too. I feel the same way about class, with each having something different to relate with Tali. It would also help me get into the head of my individual shepards.

Tali has never mentioned Wrex in any of my games and he is quite dead.

My femshep is an Earthborn War Hero Engineer. Tali is like the little sister she never had. I can imagine all sorts of trouble and mischief those two would get in if left unsupervised on the Citadel or the Flotilla.

Nope.  Spacer.  Birds of a feather, 'n all that.

I've always been Spacer/Sole survivor.

I like the freedom of space, don't want to start a hero, and want to be paragon.

I always thought that there was enough difference between Tali and SpacerShep for it to be fine. I mean, Tali was living on a crowded civilian ship where as Shepard (at least in my eyes) grew up mainly on or around military personnel and ships.

Earthborn/Ruthless. I prefer Shepard to have humble and anonymous beginnings. There was no great tragedy in his life nor any great moment of heroism that trumps what he's about to do when he is assigned to the first Normandy. Plus I just find ruthless makes more sense as the criteria for a Spectre.

As for Tali, I do sometimes think it'd be neat (or maybe mean) if when Tali was complaining about her father Shepard could remind her that at least she had one.
