I figure that whatever Bioware comes up with for Tali's face, it'll probably suit her; After all, they'll have the input and perspective on everybody who had a major effect on making Tali's character, so I'm not too worried about it.

well.. when i created this pic i was guided only on my own imagination and from what i know form mass effect 1 and 2 games, i never read any of the books but i do intend to, so this is just my own vision XD however if you guys and girls have some more info about quarians i would love to hear it and try to recreate it to look more.. quarian^^;

Your art work is amazing. Her body shape and proportions look dead on to me. The colors and shading are nicely done. I'm not an artist so take that for what it's worth. Also, it's doubtful that you're ever going to find two opinions alike about the way her face looks. Bioware will have the last say on that one....

This is actually incredible. It is really refreshing to get Tali fanart that isn't a nightelf.  Not that I have anything against nightelves... They just aren't quarian!

As for proportions, the very little we know about quarians is all there. Eye shape, nose and eyebrows. All there. Even her body isn't oversexualised. Really great imagination you must have for the design on the scalp too. Also, this face kinda suits Tali's speech and personality too!

If I was to nit-pick I'd say that her face needs to be a bit rounder and we really need to find a way to make Quarians look alien without using somewhat asari traits (like the backward sweeping head flanges), and Quarians supposedly either have an odd ear shape or basically ear holes depending on interpretation, but this image is quite a bit better then most fan art out there.

I think most people seem to forget, Tali is essentially cute... not over the top sexy like Miranda was designed to be or naive sliding into broken bird like Liara was made to be.

The rules of cute design are fairly simple... smooth facial shape, exaggerated or attention getting eyes, and soft features.

Honestly it's hard coming up with anything that suits those criteria that isn't really human looking or uncomfortably close to asari looking. I have an easier time thinking up the appearance of a male Quarian then I do with Tali herself... (I suspect males have a pair of something hanging down from their chins... hence the longer helmet design and even the Geth's facial appearance.)

The books mention that quarians have them, if I'm not wrong.

EDIT: Nevermind, I confused pupils with eyelids... in my language they have a name a bit similar.

I'm pretty sure the pupils are the dark spots in the center of the iris.

I haven't seen a quarian with pupils yet. Maybe it's because of the glowing.

I share the assesment of others that this is a pretty damn fantastic piece of art. However, in regards to Quarians in general, from what little we know, there's alot here that doesn't match up. Species wise, we know the Quarians descended from a species similar to our earth based Kawalas. As such, any kind of scales or reptilian and or aquatic attributes would not be present. Also, as a few others have pointed out, the ears (again, from what little we know from a brief description in the novels) may be quite smaller. And though this has been disputed, if the Quarians developed nocturnal attributes, the famous (or infamous) glow/sheen in Tali's eyes would be slightly more evidant, even without the ambiant lighting from her HUD display. These observations aside, the concept seen above is brilliant, and I'd actually rather like seeing it represent an as yet un-revealed species in the MEU. Kudos, and well done.

If you look at a dog or cat's eye in the dark you can't see the pupil for the refraction of light in their eyes either... Same thing probably applies to Quarians. If their eyes glowing is due to the same effect... then they shouldn't glow once the mask is removed...

I wonder... Rannoch supposedly orbits an O type star... All quarians wear those masks even in the relatively dim light of Migrant fleet vessels... You think they might have evolved as semi-nocturnal? Bright light is uncomfortable?

Tali blinks in the sudden light as Shepard removes her mask. Her pupils dilate and her eyes start watering.

"You okay?" Shepard asks. "Should I put it back..."

"No, just... it's just bright..." She shuts her eyes.

"Oh... EDI set lighting to 10%" Lights nearly wink off. "Now... I can't see."

Tali giggles. "But I can."

EDIT: Excuse me, O type star is wrong... orange spectral class stars are K class.  I also forgot that being inside the Perseus Veil would mean there'd be significantly less ambient light at night then on Earth... If they evolved nocturnally their night vision would be mind blowingly good compared to nocturnal terrestrial creatures.
