A mission where Tali and Shepard go back and forth like he did with Liara on during the Broker's missions would be AWESOME.

That is what I'm expecting at some point, now that Shepard is starting to have his own character.

What I want most from Tali's romance in ME3 is that they confide in each other. That would be awesome.

I'm suspecting a big scene when you get Rannoch back.

You KNOW it's happening.

Again, I'm not saying sleeping with Tali is immoral or something and my dudeshep would always choose that route anyway. I just think that hers is a romance that doesn't have to immediately turn to sex to be viable. Granted it really brings home the whole trust thing and her taking off her mask and all that. Shep just seems like I dunno almost blissfully ignorant in some parts of that conversation to me. "You mean we could die if we were together?" and that's all he has to say? I mean she even flat out admits it could kill her. I dunno. I guess I just wish all the romances had more nuance and more dialog options than just "press A to advance" and "press B to reject." Maybe that is what I am saying.

Yea, no romance is perfect. Shepard can be pretty...aloof at times, too.

Indeed. I wait for Tali's reaction eagerly. Definitely going to be one of the highpoints of the game.

But then we get into the whole "if not now, then when?" thing. They're headed into a suicide mission! If they don't do it now, they could be dead before it's more convenient!

It's best to just think of Shepard as the biggest idiot in the galaxy who likes to shout out he can use that upgrade at the worst possible time.

Like after finding Rael's body. Or after the trial.

I had my doubts before, but now that the LotSB DLC pretty much says it, yea. It's probably going to happen.

This is ultimately my stance as well. If it's not going to work before a suicide mission where everyone thinks they're probably going to die, would it ever work?

You have a point.

It's basically about having more options (and therefore dialog), which wasn't exactly the case with not only Tali's romance, but pretty much every other ME2 romance.

Have faith.

Bioware loves their fans.

And they love Tali.

Clearly. They gave her more lines than any other squadmate in the game.

They're going to do it justice. Just watch.

And that they're certain of what both of them want from each other.

Exactly.

Not to mention this is a thing EVERY quarian faces.

If they all stopped having sex because of this, their entire species would go extinct.

It's always a risk.

Doesn't stop one from trying.

Not mine, though. I don't know how to make GIFs, so I use the ones I have when I find the situation appropriate.Posted Image

This is also precisely why I didn't like the ME1 romances.  To me they all go from "well, we have a nice thing here.  I'm looking forward to shore leave" to "let's screw like mad because we might die tomorrow."  Granted this is NOT the case with Tali or Garrus because they have known each other too long for that.  And as a Garrus fic I am fond of says "dead is a long time" meaning they already lost their chance once when Shep died and it would be foolish to squander this miraculous second chance.  I get the urgency.  Maybe I just resent the urgency because I feel like it forces the romances down a certain path they might not have gone down in other circumstances.  It works and it makes sense, but it also doesn't leave much room for nuance.

Sex with your own species for procreation in a sterile environment and sex with an alien in a room full of potential allergens and pathogens aren't quite the same thing.

I would like to point out that aboard a starship the room would be cleaner than your average place. Not to mention if Shepard had any brains he would have cleaned the entire room before the encounter.

Valid point.  I still don't think it would be anywhere near as safe as similar arrangements back on the flotilla.  I think the risk she takes with Shepard is much greater than the risk she would be taking with another quarian back home.  Of course, this is a large part of what makes the encounter meaningful and endearing and such a satisfying conclusion to the romance.  I get all of that and I like it.  It's the lack of nuance and some minor things about how the romance dialog progresses that annoy me a bit.

Well this seems to be a criticism of the romances in general. In every romance there's always an issue with pacing.

I've always thought the "I feel the same way about you" part came almost out of nowhere.

That's what I think is the problem. The romance jumps ahead a little too far sometimes.

Same thing with the "I want you, Thane" bit with Thane; it was totally out of place.

However, the good thing is, what Shepard actually says in those moments tends to be completely different from what the option says.

I guess it just annoys me more with Tali and Garrus because those are the characters I actually like and they are my Sheps' main LIs. I don't really care what happens in the other romances. Also, the pacing is pretty good in Thane's. It's actually pretty decent in Jacob's as well. Garrus and Tali are particularly shortchanged. Jack's is just weird on multiple levels even beyond the pacing.
