Every ten or fifteen seconds, Baldur's Gate 2 freezes for a couple of seconds on my laptop. The whole thing is unresponsive for that time (mouse, keyboard, no animations displayed) however, often when the game resumes it is as if the two seconds passed normally (the characters will have jumped to where they were moving or killed an enemy).
My laptop has the following specification:
Windows 7
Intel Core i3 330M processor (2.13Ghz)
Intel HD graphics
3Gb RAM
Obviously it should be more than capable of running the game (even on a single core), so my only guess is it's related to the Intel graphics card somehow. Any thoughts?
(P.S. this topic on the old boards sounds exactly the same and they were using Intel graphics on Win7 - coincidence?)
BG2 is repeatedly freezing on Win7

Have you patched the game?
Have you tried lowering the graphics or adjusting them until the problem disappears?
Have you tried windowed mode?
Have you tried running it in XP mode or as an administrator?
Errr, those are all the questions that spring to mind.

Has anyone fixed this? I am having the same problem with Icewind Dale and Heart of Winter. At first I thought the freezes related to moving the party around. Not so, however. If you do nothing but just watch the animated time clock in the lower left, it freezes every 11 seconds or so for a duration of about 2 or 3 seconds. Occasionally it will freeze at a shorter interval then 11 seconds. I am running it on a relatively new Acer laptop. I have a full install of the game, tinkered with many graphics settings, ran the program using an image of the DVD rather than the DVD itself in case drive access was the problem, tried various compatibility modes, no luck. Going to install it on a different computer running windows 7 to see what happens.

ISSUE RESOLVED
I found THIS POST, and following the procedure stopped the freezing and makes Icewind Dale very playable. Apparently, the issue I was having is a directdraw problem the game was having with the Intel HD graphics card in my laptop. It is intended as a fix for Infinity Engine games in general, so it may well work for Baldur's Gate.

I'm having exactly the same problem as this? I've tried various compatibility settings AND followed your link Jason... however the thread it links me to seems like a bit of a mess, I tried following the second post to 'force direct draw emulation' but this just seemed to intensify the problem by shortening the gap between each pause.
Is this the same post that you followed (Directdrawemulation) Jason? I could see other bits and pieces on the thread but I didn't follow most of it.
