Personally, I wouldn't mind if the Paragon ending was if the whole galaxy got destroyed and everyone died.
Not like being pessimistic or anything. I would just like the fact that Shepard and the humans were able to stand and unite with the other races in the galaxy believing in eachother, fighting with eachother, and dying with eachother. They just wouldn't be able to win due to their inferior technology.
It's better then a frickin' miracle victory over the Reapers, or at the last minute some super weapon or mass super ships were created, or Shepard sacrifices himself to the Reapers or to some super artifact to destroy the Reapers.

Reapers defeated, all their relays and the Citadel destroyed/defunctioned and all species are once again trapped in their homeworlds without a chance to meet others again, but free of the Cycle.
You know that's probably what the ending would be or at least one of the endings. Mass Effect is very reminiscent especially with it's message about technology to Dan Simmons Hyperion.
TechnoCore ( vast agglomeration of millions of the most intelligent AIs who run the farcaster networks and nearly every other piece of high technology) are the Reapers. In the end the only way humanity wins is by destroying all the farcasters and thus cutting itself from the rest.

Shepard becomes a Reaper.
You were so right! I was quite upset that they didn't expand on the whole Harbinger conflict. Well they wrote what they wanted to write.
