How to install .dazips without using the DAUpdater?

Whenever I try to run the daupdater program, it goes unresponsive just as the installation would have completed. This has stopped me both from installing the DLC, and from installing any of the .dazipped mods. Is there any way to install these using the override folder instead?

they are basically simple zip files, just rename the extension and you can open / extract them yourself. However, you will need to add an entry to the addins.xml file by yourself

OK, so having extracted them I merely need to copy the files into the AddIns folder and find the right entry for the XML file?
Any special formatting I should be considering?
EDIT: at the moment, my addins.xml file is totally blank. What kind of entries should I see?

I had the same problem but the file would install anyway even though it appeared its progress never filled up. I found it better to go by the log then the progress bar

Mine doesn't produce a log as far as I can tell. And it definitely doesn't install! It just goes unresponsive, and the game is still convinced it isn't installed.
