No more new romances in Mass Effect 3?

I'm about to venture into deep waters here, but I honestly feel Mass Effect 3 should not include any new romances, in any way. One is the obvious reason of manpower and time - no matter how large BioWare is, they can't do everything. And Mass Effect 3 should be a game that actually ties an epic storyline with many variables. Including previous romances.

Second, and that's completely my subjective taste, I felt Mass Effect 2 leaned a bit heavily on the "dating sim" side. I couldn't be friendly with half of my crew mates, depending on the gender? You either romance someone, or you're purely professional.

Besides, we already have 9 potential romances to resolve - three from the original (Liara, Kaiden and Ashley), six from the sequel; add three more potentials, if we count Kelly, Shiala and Gianna Parasini. I'd rather see these resolved in a tasteful and interesting manner than adding even more. Really, 9 (or 12) is more than enough. And above all, I'd rather see new content, like missions, planets, interesting NPCs than even more romance options.

I kind agree, but then we still have those who have never played either the first or the second. So there will be a few new for those

Agree with that. You should be able to talk to everyone as per normal but have maybe a 4th option thats the romance way with the others just being paragon/renegade options. They could even make the romance option a nice pink ;)

I disagree, the hatch to Shepard's quarters should be changed into a revolving door!

Ahhh Ahh Ahhh --- no one put anyone's gun to their head and decided to tell them to skip 2 sequeals just so they could play the 3rd.  If they wanted the exp --- they should go back to 1 and 2.

Its ubsurd to keep skewing your game because of late fans, if that was done, no trilogy would be worth its weight in time and effort.

I say you want get the full package... AT THE VERY LEAST... play the damn 2nd game! Geez... or are we going to make lazy gamers by giving them a  " Choose your choices now!" packag so they don't have to deal with it all togther?

How about no new romances, but allow players who imported romance free saves (or didnt play ME1-2) a way of starting them with ME1-2 characters?

Problem solved.

My guess is, either a romance with someone that wasn´t possible before (like kasumi or zaeed) or better yet a new romance with a new squadmate, like Shiala. Just naming a random example, it is not like that would interest me in the slightest :P

For the idea? I agree --- how much more tail can this guy wish to chase with all of this crap on his plate to deal with? It was damn near turning into The SR2 Love Boat at some point if not for the intervention of TIM and the Collectors.

Enough is enough. I say you keep the casual " 007 " approach to it like they treated that one agent on Illum --- whats her fact or the Thorian Assari. Flirtatious run-ins and innuendo.

The romantic subplots keep getting better with each game. It'd be a shame for bioware to just stop now.

Why make concessions for a swath of people who didn't play the last 2 games? If this were the case then each Mass Effect game should be a stand alone entity without bridges.

Pretty much this.  I recognize there may be people who haven't played ME1 or 2 who might want to play 3, and that's great, but if you pick up a series in the middle, or heaven forbid the end, you have no right to say things aren't making sense.  I picked up a game a while ago that turned out to be 3rd or 4th in a series.  I had absolutely no idea what was going on.  I knew enough to continue moving forward but I was doing so essentially blind.  Did I begrudge the game that, no.  Was I willing to go back and play the other games, no.  Did I still enjoy the game, yes.

Is ME3 even likely to attract new, "casual" players at this point? I mean, both ME and ME2 got stellar reviews and were big hits. Every gamer who hasn't been living under a rock by now should know that the "big" feature of the series is the ability to import a saved game to the sequel and see the consequences of your actions. So, I honestly can't imagine new gamers joining the ME saga so late - unless they buy also the first 2 games and do a ME marathon.

I started with ME2 after it was given to me as a gift.

I'm still thinking about going back and playing ME1.

(Even though I read so much about it before setting up a new game in ME2 (with Gibbed) to include ME1 non-default import elements that there would be no surprises.)

I completely agree. A gamer willing to pony up for a third installment of a game like Mass effect should also be willing to invest the time for learning the backstory of the game universe. Including codex entries so a new gamer can have an idea of what everything is and the motivations/personalities of the various races is really space better used by game content. 'Man' up and play the trilogy, not just what you just saw on a commercial on TV.

Do it! ME 1 was great. Easily my favorite game of all-time...you know, until ME 2 came out. But it's still awesome.

I think there could be too many LI's in ME3, but I want Bioware to at least finish the ones they've already hinted at like Parasini & Shiala. If they don't add ones w/ new characters I'm fine, but at least close off loose ends.

Shepard: "A broad in every city, and a bunk on every planet" XD
