Besides, we already have 9 potential romances to resolve - three from the original (Liara, Kaiden and Ashley), six from the sequel; add three more potentials, if we count Kelly, Shiala and Gianna Parasini. I'd rather see these resolved in a tasteful and interesting manner than adding even more. Really, 9 (or 12) is more than enough. And above all, I'd rather see new content, like missions, planets, interesting NPCs than even more romance options.

A very excellent point. There were various characters which you couldn't have to much conversation just because it led to romance. I thought Jack, for example, was a very interesting character but after her loyalty mission I couldn't really speak with her anymore. The same goes for the others.

However, there are some characters, like Samara, that would make an excellent romance option (from a story point of view - before people get weird ideas :P). In a way, she reminded me of Bastilla, as a warrior who turned away from her feelings to pursue a worthy cause. These kind of characters are worthy of respect, but giving them some love actually makes their story more positive.

I think there should be new romanceable characters if none of your old LIs return as squadmates, which is a possibility. I also think players should have the option of going the James Bond in space route with their Shepard, with him or her having a new LI in every chapter.

I very much agree. If its true that this is the final chapter for Shepard (boo!) than i cant see the point in any more romances. Except if its Joker...

Random flirtations and encounters, yes

I wouldn't mind new romances with existing characters, just no new characters.

I liked how they handled Liara in Lair of the Shadow Broker. One thing that annoyed me about Mass Effect 2 was that with Tali and Jack especially it was next to impossible to be friendly without getting involved in a new relationship, however in LotSB I was happy to be able to have a friendly conversation with Liara without having to worry about screwing up my already existing relationship.

So as far as the topic at hand goes, I think it would probably be better not to introduce a new love interest, but I'd be willing to accept a few new options as long as I can actually talk to them without adding a new corner to my love triangle.

ME3 needs to have new romances for players who don't pick up ME1 or 2.

Sorry, but its that simple.

I agree with the original post but there is a risk that they will add two or three just because that sells. I would rather keep my guys, gals and aliens from the first two games though.

I agree, but not because I have any "TOO MUCH ROMANCE!" complaints.

I agree because no new romances means they'll focus more on my current ones.

Players who are jumping into the third installment of a blockbuster trilogy without bothering to pick up the first two don't need to be catered to.

Sorry, but it's that simple.

I'm about to venture into deep waters here, but I honestly feel Mass Effect 3 should not include any new romances, in any way. One is the obvious reason of manpower and time - no matter how large BioWare is, they can't do everything. And Mass Effect 3 should be a game that actually ties an epic storyline with many variables. Including previous romances.

Second, and that's completely my subjective taste, I felt Mass Effect 2 leaned a bit heavily on the "dating sim" side. I couldn't be friendly with half of my crew mates, depending on the gender? You either romance someone, or you're purely professional.

Besides, we already have 9 potential romances to resolve - three from the original (Liara, Kaiden and Ashley), six from the sequel; add three more potentials, if we count Kelly, Shiala and Gianna Parasini. I agree and disagree.  I definitely thinking existing romances should be the focus.  I disagree that you couldn't be friendly with your crewmates.  I was friendly with -all- my crewmates, and never got into a relationship I didn't want.

In fact, at the end of my first game, I honestly felt like Jacob was my femshep's "best bud".  They had a total broforce thing going on.  It was cool.  ;p

Edit:  Augh, stupid quote ender being in the wrong spot.  ;p

I wouldn't mind, I only ever romance Liara, except for Tali because I wanted an achievement.

That actually raises the question, does romancing Liara in LOTSB unlock the romance achievement for ME2?

I also agree. We have Ashley, Kaiden, Liara, Garrus, Tali, Thane, Jack, Jacob, Kelly and Miranda. That provides more than enough options. Let's leave it at that.

I also agree. I think that the romance options we already have are more than enough, and I would definitely prefer that they focused on the characters that we already know...

Adding a couple of new romances doesn't translate to "catering".

The point is, they need new romances for new players. Believe it or not, there are a huge number of players that don't play entire trilogies.

I agree other than I wouldn't refer to ME 2 as a dating sim, but I would like some friendship options in ME3.
I don't need any new romance in ME3.  I would like them to spend the time rounding out the romances all ready there.

These need multiple ending options that require work -   romanced Kaidan or Ash or Liara and didn't romance anyone in ME2  at least one happy happy result, or romanced ME1 character, got mad and went with someone in ME2,  different result.  These have to be resolved!!!!!
I have a couple of Shepard's who didn't romance anyone or whose LI in ME2 died, that's fine, in ME3 they don't need a new LI just friends.  I really want good things to happen with the relationships all ready in the story.
The only new romance in ME 3 I wouldn't mind would be Gabby and Kenneth down in Engineering, if one of them didn't die.  Gabby died, it was very very sad.

Probably, but in my heart of hearts, I think they should be punished for not playing the 1st 2.  No romance for them.

I agree in theory, but Bioware would take a lot of heat if they do go this route.

The romantic subplots keep getting better with each game. It'd be a shame for bioware to just stop now.

I didn't find the romances in ME2 better.  Different, but not better.

I started with ME2 after it was given to me as a gift.

I'm still thinking about going back and playing ME1.

(Even though I read so much about it before setting up a new game in ME2 (with Gibbed) to include ME1 non-default import elements that there would be no surprises.)

I still play ME1.  Actually play them both.  Now I start a game in ME1 and just continue on into ME2.  You should get it.  :)

I figure they probably will do this, but i really don't think they should.  If a new gamer wants to wait this long to try the game then they can do without the romances and have a group of friends, then go out and get the first 2 games.
But, I figure BW will throw in a couple of new romances.  I just want the majority of the writing and work going into the LI you are bringing over from the previous games.
