I agree that we do not need any new romance options in ME3. Big showdown against the Reapers and I really do not think Shepard's got the time and energy for more romance. Even though Shiala gives Shepard an amorous look in ME2 (assuming you weren't a trigger happy jerk and killed her in ME1) I really don't think there is room for new romances.

In fact that's just more reasons for new romances. ME1 doesn't become stressful till late stage, ME2 is pretty intense as collectors are taking one colony after another, and ME3 will be totally overwhelming.

So, we have full fledged romances in ME1, and ME2 romances are shorter, less emotional and more sexual, Miri, Jacob and Garrus are more like F-buddies.

I would not be surprised if in ME3 someone bumps in and Shepard says "let's just have sex."

That does actually work sometimes.

@GGRush, I like your logic. >:)

If stress is constant throughout ME3, why not... every day is Shepard's last.

I kind agree, but then we still have those who have never played either the first or the second. So there will be a few new for those

The same logic applies to those who have only bought the second game and want to romance the VS or Liara. If you want to romance X, you should go play the game X is romancable is my stance.

Agreeing with no more love interests. The focus should be on resolving the epic tale spun in the first two games.

I agree.  If they add more romances in ME3 it's just going to water down the ones in ME1 and 2.   I really do hope they just stick to the ones that have already been established.

ME 3 I would really like them to work on the established romances and friendships.  If there are brand new players who for some unexplained reason did not play ME1 or 2 or any other BW game,  maybe a friendship base would get them intrigued enough to go back and pick up other or future games.

I'm not real hopeful, but I've  got my fingers crossed.  No new romances, deepen the story for the existing LI and work on friendships.

Any new ones could always be done as part of DLC's. That way, people who want them could pay extra for them.

For all who don't want new romances... just because there is a new romance does not mean you need to do anything w/ the new one. Continue focusing on your existing one. I have no doubts that Bioware has intentional of finishing the 'epic' tale of Shepard. That won't be diminished by additional relationships Shepard has along the way. It'd be like saying, "Shepard, you can't make any more friends, You are cut off"

This isn't the point.  I resent the idea that space on the game series I've been playing since the day it came out in Nov. 2007 will be used for some twit who didn't think the series was worth trying out.  I know that this is totally selfish and I don't care.   How much of the game time is spent talking to your LI?  Broken down - an hour? a couple of hours?  I would much rather the current romances get that extra time instead of adding in new romances.

I'm not even saying if the romance option was there I wouldn't check it out because I would at least once,  but I would rather they spend the time and space on the existing romance options and jut give the unknown possible future buyers a bunch of friends.

i'm not holding my breath but I am using the think system.

I agree that we do not need any new characters to romance. We have a set already in place, and adding more will become too convoluted. That isn't to say that if in both ME 1 and 2 you did not romance anyone you shouldn't have the chance to in ME3. Things and feelings change over time, I imagine especially so if you are battling against the Reapers for the sake of all organic life, so there is no reason Shepard could not become involved with a character that s/he previously didn't jump upon.

Additionally, simply because you denied folks like Kaiden or Jacob in the past does not mean they won't continue to pursue YOU. I would like that twist, getting out of an emotional tight spot without damaging the bond you have with that crew member.

More importantly, I would really like to see further development in the relationships that already exist. Romance is not just the chase and eventual sexual encounter, not if you actually love that person. Romance is a long-withstanding event that has to be forever desired and felt. This is why I LOVE LofSB, because it got my female Para-Shep to continue her relationship with Liara, taking things further emotionally and creating a stronger bond between them. I'm ecstatic with hope that in ME3 you can keep building upon your preexisting relationships and that it will lead to some of the most awesome conversations ever witnessed, and that I will cry like a baby. I want Liara and my Shepard to have those blue children they spoke of recently!

Obviously I'll be quite sad if Shepard or Liara dies at the conclusion of the ME tale ><

I hope new players to Mass Effect 3 only get the option to romance EDI, then spend the entire game trying to 'make it work'.

I'm about to venture into deep waters here, but I honestly feel Mass Effect 3 should not include any new romances, in any way. One is the obvious reason of manpower and time - no matter how large BioWare is, they can't do everything. And Mass Effect 3 should be a game that actually ties an epic storyline with many variables. Including previous romances.

Second, and that's completely my subjective taste, I felt Mass Effect 2 leaned a bit heavily on the "dating sim" side. I couldn't be friendly with half of my crew mates, depending on the gender? You either romance someone, or you're purely professional.

Besides, we already have 9 potential romances to resolve - three from the original (Liara, Kaiden and Ashley), six from the sequel; add three more potentials, if we count Kelly, Shiala and Gianna Parasini. I'd rather see these resolved in a tasteful and interesting manner than adding even more. Really, 9 (or 12) is more than enough. And above all, I'd rather see new content, like missions, planets, interesting NPCs than even more romance options.

Hey, as for Kelly, Shiala, and Gianna...there's nothing wrong with a friend with benefits or the occasional playdate!

It should be Joker for that:  EDI should take on an actual form (like the helpers on the Citadel) and be modeled on Tricia Helfer, the actual voice actor for EDI.  No more golfball on a tee shape.  Tricia is a PERFECT woman to model EDI on (did I say she's PERFECT?).

The love interest in ME3 should simply involve Ashley getting into the idea of being part of a triad of Shepard, Liara, and Ash. Perfect ending.

Honestly, not a good way to influence a debate.  If Bioware did whatever they wanted w/out any kind of fan input, the game would probably radically different, and potentially been even less worth your time.  Game Developers make decisions that will appease the most fans and make the most money, and the means fan feedback and higher options to appease more people.  Bioware is unlikely to listen to simply one idea if it's going to enrage other players especially potential new players.

It's not that i loath the idea of getting a new squadmate for ME3, it's just that ME2 suad was very full and there are alot of people asking for Ashley/Kaiden, Liara and Wrex ( very unlikly for Wrex since he has responsibilities on Tuchunka ) to come back for ME3. Now we could lose a few of ME2's squadmates but each and every one of of ME2's squadmates has a fanbase and for every one that does not return Bioware risks pissing someone off.

Baihu1983 wrote...

Maybe Samara.

I get why Samra isn't a LI in ME2 and to be honest I would like it to stay that way if she were to return for ME3 ( please let her return ). I like the idea of her maintaining  platonic relationship with Shepard. If your looking for a new feamle LI I suppose Kelly and/or Kasumi could get upgraded to LI status. Joker, Grunt and Wrex ( if he comes back ) could be new LI's for female Shepard.

There's no reason why Bioware couldn't cause increased deaths in ME3 to force Shepard to choose who's in the squad. Especially if Squadies die in ME2, the choice simply wouldn't be there. I've proposed this before.... Grunt / Wrex, Liara / Samara, Kaiden / Jacob. It would keep the squad count to a manageable level, and allow Bioware to do what they do best w/ story & character attachment. This is also why additional romances would not be a threat to existing ones.

Hated debate.  I got stuck with the subject crickets good or bad.  :)  I actually trust BW more than most of us fans.  I'm sure whatever they do will be good and I'll enjoy it.  But if I had my preference I'd not include new romances in ME3 and the main reason is the amount of time new ones will take away from the existing ones which was also in my blurb.

While I agree with not having any new romances, it would be nice to start a romance with an existing character for the third game. I plan on starting a relationship with Ashley and then having her die on Virmire(not out of malice).....it would be nice to then have Shepard with Liara in the DLC but that's not at all possible. My only choices for a male Shepard are Tali, Jack, and Miranda.

There will almost certainly be new squadmates and new romances. Question is, how can Bioware possibly keep this game to 2 discs? I don't see it happening. Probably going to need 3 discs.
