Hey everyone.

I am playing a Tiefling Rogue/Wizard Arcane Trixter on a PW and I need some advise.  I am not, nor do I want to be, a power builder.  I am not sure even if it is possible with this type of character.  I simply want a character that will be fun to play throughout the entire course of the game without making any huge blunders that I will regret.

1)  From a "you are playing the character level after level" perspective, what is a good way to go?
     a)  All rogue levels up front
     B)  Rogue (1) Wizard for 5 levels then back to rogue for 2 to qualify for Trixter?
     c)  Alternate Rogue and wizard levels till I get 3/5 necessary so as to keep the xp hit non existant
     d)  Other

2)  Should I stick merely with R/W/AT?  or is there a 4th class i should put in there (say AS?)

3)  Any feats I should particularly make sure I have/don't have?

I am not looking for a step by step build here and probably will not stick to one even if one is provided.  Merely appreciative of general guidelines around the above.

Thanks in advance.

Well, that really depends on what kind of environment you are playing in but generally i would say B). Provided that you know what wizard spells to use at low levels. Note that c) is pointless because you won't have xp penalty as a tiefling anyway.

4 classes almost allways work better than 3 :D. You have several options here. One is to try make some use of your sneak attack. For that, you may chose shadowdancer or EK. Shadowdancer allows you to sneak attack without flanking and ignore a part of enemy's AC. EK improves your ab a bit, so you can hope to hit something, but you will need summons and/ or invisibility spells to help you to deliver sneak attacks. 2nd option is just forget that you're AT and go for spellcasting power. In this case arcane scholar is an obvious choice. Note that Ro/AT/Wiz/AS has almost no benefits over a Ro/Wiz/AS and the 2nd one can get a better 4th class, but if you want to be AT, so be it. Things change a bit if your server has support for sneak attacks with spells (Like in Kaedrin's pack).

3) Any feats I should particularly make sure I have/don't have?

- the "don't" list would be too long. A must have feat is Practised Caster since you're losing caster levels when multiclassing. You'd better make a build on nwn2db and I'm sure someone there or here will point out your mistakes.

While i know you think you believe what you say, the mere fact of asking makes it clear that you really are a closet power gamer!  LOL  ("what you do speaks so loud, i cant hear what you are saying" - Emerson).  The first step is to admit that you have a problem, THEN seek help!  :)

LOL. Thanks for the advise. As far as feats that i definitely want, Practiced Caster definitely. And Create Wand. Beyond that, probably mainly Spell feats such as Extend.

About the Closet power gamer. LOL. I can see how that may appear, but seriously not. I pretty much level up as suits the mood at the time. No plan. And that has resulted in some unhappy gaming experiences. But to me, the concept behind why the character chose as they did is at least as important as if the feats/skills/class works. Playing the OC/MoTB I played a Wizard that finally made it to Red Wizard and then got like 6 levels of AS before hitting the cap. So...

But I appreciate that people are looking out for me. Thanks.

That is how we all start out (the power gamers i mean).  We get sick and tired of unhappy experiences and we seek "revenge" (turn to the dark side, if you will).  Here is a way to maybe look at it, without turning to pure power gamer: Pick a character concept (which you have).  Say to yourself, "Self, what would be fun with this guy?", which usually comes out as a feat to have or set of skills or whatever.  In nwn, I played PRC rules on a server and thought "What would a Dragon shape character with devastating critical be like?" SO i set out to figure it out, and the crazy thing was, it was more fun than i thought (ever been dev critted by a badger?)  :P

Once you have an ending, then its a matter of making sure you get there.  That is what some call power gaming, but us power gamers call it NOT WASTING YOUR TIME!!  Posted Image

What happened to me is, i became very comfortable with min/max'ing, which is power gaming on steroids!

Again, they say, it takes one to know one, and guess what?  Its ok to stay in the closet though.  Your party will be so surprised when they party with you and think "oh a rogue", only to have you nuke everthing while the fighters are preparing to run in!  Posted Image

I would like to emphasize something MANNoob already mentioned, albeit not as clearly: Arcane Tricksters are kinda pointless for Wizards unless your PW has fixed Ranged Touch Attacks to allow for sneak attack damage. Even then they are not great due to the crappy BAB, but can be fun (especially with stuff like Kaedrin's Invisible Needle reserve feat).

But if you just want them for their Rogue-type skills, just go Rogue 1/Wizard + something else rest.

The PW that I play on forbids a single level dip into any one class (for cheese reasons). Anyway, thanks for the info.
