Just began my first Insanity run and I'm having a little trouble with the husks. On Horizon they were awful but Grunt did alright holding them off.

My problem is more on the Collector ship. I use the Rev with Inferno ammo to spread the fire around but I still have a few issues getting through. I was thinking about using the flamethrower. My main concern is the derelict reaper where I know I'm going to be killed a few times.

Any general tips for dealing with these things?

Flamethrower is effective. Bring Miranda w/ Warp to strip armor and to give you a health/ damage boost. Questions: Do you have Kasumi? And do you have the Firepower pack? Just need a little more info to help.

Slam. Strip their armor, then use Slam. When a Husk leaves the ground, it dies, and Slam has a very short cooldown (even less with the proper upgrades), so you can literally sit there and spam it every 3 seconds. Consider using the Carnifex or the Phalanx with Inferno Ammo to strip a Husk's armor in a single shot, and save your ammo as well. I actually recommend the Phalanx for it's larger ammo supply.

Note that all of this assumes a Level 1 Slam. Also, with the Biotic Cooldown upgrade, you're looking at about 2.4 seconds of recharge time. So you can clear Husks pretty quickly.

Since you are a Soldier, use (squad) Cryo ammo - it instakills husks once you get through their armor (freeze them).

Yeah I have both. Don't like the guns on Shep to be honest although the Mattock on Grunt and the Locust on Miranda are very helpful. My problem is really I can't drop them fast enough to prevent them swarming me. My aiming is good. I know that isn't it.

The Husks on Horizon are already the worst part of those. Paired with twin Scions and Collectors, they really can get a nuisance if you don't shoot them fast enough.

First of all, shoot for their groins and legs, that seems to be their weakpoint.

On the Collector Ship, you encounter husks only on three occasions, with the first two having only two Abominations if I remember correctly. Just fokus on them and if you have the time and aim, kill them near Collectors to make them take some with them whilst they explode. Nore that Pull on Abominations is a No-Go, that'll just make them explode at yourself or the caster. Simply kill them fast. The major Husk group at the end of the Collector Ship, near the shuttle is cake. Just run through them, side step maybe one or two and get to the shuttle. No need to waste even one bullet.

The Derelict Reaper can be challenging with the Scion-Husk Combo. Just deal with the Scions first as fast as possible. Once those are done, you can just run in circles, take a shot, run in circles, take a shot until every single Husk is dead. They'll almost never get you unless you run into a corner and get stunlocked. That is actually pretty funny once the Scions are dealt with. My Vanguard had happy times circling the Husks, then shoot them once with the Claymore in their groins, see it crumble, rinse and repeat. You'll never want that to happen. It's like playing Whack-A-Mole on Carnival.Alternatively, for Vanguards, you can play Pinball. Charge a Husk, shoot him, move and repeat. Add a nice PING everytime you killed a Husk and you'll find yourself unhappy once all of them are dead. Seriously.

In the "Suicide"-Mission, the little Husk-Sequence can be hard too, given you have to with Abominations, normal Husks AND a Scion, but again, kill the Scion first and then begin circling the remaingin forces. Use One-Shot Powers on the Husks like Area Reave/Area Incinerate/Inferno Grenade+Neural Shock/Full Cryo Blast/Throw Field/Pull Field (again watch for Abominations) to take out the first wave of charging Husks to get enough time to deal with the Scion and then it's cake.

Hope I could help.

I found the Mattock w/ Inferno Ammo to be friggin awsome combined w/ Adreniline (sp) Rush, the Inferno Ammo has a radius as well, making groups of husks go down quicker. I agree w/ Kronner as well,Squad cyro against husks is good at crowd control anytime you fight them. Kasumi with the flashbang knocks them down (even with the defenses) and allows you to pick them off while they get up. Also, on the Reaper IFF mission, don't be afraid to run back and pick them off at a distance, espically when the Scions come around.

Arrgh, ... now you got me anxious to play that Derelict Reaper Mission again. Here, in Germany, 11pm and all I am thinking of right now is how to have fun with those Husks.

That's it, ... I gonna play some more.

On the Reaper IFF, there are three major enounters. Here are some safe suggestions:

1. Dragon's Teeth, right after you pick up the SR ungrade. Assign your squad to the stand on the forked stairways leading up to that platform. When you enter the initial area, a small group of husks will trigger, which you should clear them out easily. Re-assign your squad to the same stairways again (I hate that), and enter the main area with the grenade launcher. Launch a few into the Scion and then a few to the rushing husks while retreating and strafing. You should be able to tell when the shockwaves arrive strafe accordingly. Switch to the Revy at your convenience and destroy anything charging as welll as the explosive crates. All the while, spam squad powers. When you've retreated back near the stair way, call your squad to follow you and retreat backwards however far back you wish. By this time, most husks would be destroyed and the Scion has taken quite a bit of damage.

2. The series of platforms after Legion. Generally, don't assign squadmates to cover. Assign your squad far behind the trigger points that are also walled off, so the Scions' shockwaves won't get them. You'll know these places. You trigger the hordes, then shoot them while retreating, as well as spamming squad powers along the way. Heavy weapons are optional, but weapon switching is tricky. This area is long, so take advantage of the length and the stairs for the fallback. When you've fallen back to your squad, most of the husks should've been destroyed, then release their positions and just go with the flow. If the Scions are close, you should be able to strafe at close range to easily avoid their shockwaves.

3. Destroying the mass effect generator. The area is split left and right sides by the middle stairway. Assign your squad to the left side near the entrance, while you stand in the middle so you have the best view. You concentrate on the horde coming on the right side, while your squad take care the other side. I recommend Tali, Mordin, and/or Jacob.

I'd be interested in hearing other people's tactics.

For the Reaper IFF mission with Soldier on insanity, go with squad cryo like already mentioned. Add something like flashbang and you should be good. Put your squad on cryo ammo, and use incendiary ammo for yourself to burn off Husk's armor. Then let your squad freeze them. The flashbang can stun them and sometimes kill them.

If you still have trouble, bring the Avalanche.

I've got the Firepower pack so I what I do is:

-- Get the Mattock

-- Use Inferno Ammo

-- Bring Grunt [can provide squad ammo & has shotgun & Fortification is handy]

-- Bring Jacob [Shotty & Barrier] or Zaaed [Inferno Grenade & Concussive is handy]

I like shooting the legs of Husks when armor is stripped as they usually immediately die. Move around some [not in the center area but off to one side or another]. Keep your eye on the prize and when it opens up blast it with the Mattock. Just hope for the best.

In one word: Grunt.

Even on insanity he'll plough through them like a knife through hot butter. Just make sure that the husks don't surround him. The GPS is great for this task.

On a soldier I like doing this.

1. Take area reave.
2. At least 1 point in cryo
3. Someone with pull field

All you have to do is cast area reave on a group of husks to strip armor, have your squaddie pull field the unprotected husks to insta kill them, and shoot with cryo ammo on the ones pull field missed,

You could also bring along mordin. His incineration blast + upgrade will strip multiple husks instantly. Or you can do it with area reave and have him cast cryo blast (if you max it, it's only a 4.5 second cooldown) to kill them once stripped. Cryo on a canifex heavy pistol will freeze and kill  stripped husks in 1 shot, 1-2 shots with the predator pistol.

If you want an even simpler way and don't mind using a heavy weapon, just whip out the avalanche. That weapon has plenty of ammo and makes short work of husks too.

As said above you can always trigger the Husks and then fall back to prevent them from swarming you. The only place that isn't possible is after you encounter Legion for the first time and the door you came in through gets locked behind you. Don't stand in one place, keep moving around and shooting and don't forget about your Concussive Shot. Also, use Melee on Husks - it staggers them for a second, giving you time to back up and shoot.

As for the Reaper Core, I don't even mess around in there - I bring the Cain and end it as quick a possible.

Sorry, that's for the Reaper IFF, not the Collector Ship. However, for the Husk rush on the Collector Ship the same strategy holds - trigger the rush, shoot what you can, fall back when necessary, melee if close, repeat.

Hope that helps.

There is really only one true Collector ship rush, and that is the ending hall just before you get back to the shuttle. All the other points with husks on the Collector ship are a few husks scattered among Collectors and you should be hitting them from cover just like any other enemy, with powers and ammo killing them quickly. For the final Husks that rush you they are just before the end so IGNORE THEM pop an ARush and run through them to get to the shuttle, you can shoot if you feel like it, but as long as you are moving you should make it to the shuttle and be away. Also use the Shotgun instead of the Rev, keep Inferno ammo on, and aim at the belly/groin of the husks, most times one shot kills.

All you really need is the salarian... area effect incinerate makes them all vulnerable... then start popping Throws, etc, to do one hit kills.

Any general tips for dealing with these things?

1. Use your Rev with inferno to strip the armor, and let your squadmates do a lot of the rest of the killing. Jack with Shockwave is great for husks once their armor is off. Those that aren't destroyed instantly will fly off the platforms and never be seen again. Zaeed with Inferno grenade is nice for removing armor off whatever abomination is in the crowd, too.

2. Concentrate on Abominations. Destroy them and make them explode. The explosion will strip away the armor off several surrounding husks.

3. The earlier post about shooting them in the groin is correct. They break in half relatively quickly.

4. Position your squadmates with good fields of fire behind you. You can leave them in the open with husks, though not if there are scions about. Go forward, trigger the husk rush, and run backwards while your team blasts them. Don't forget to use teammate powers, either.

After each "wave," reposition your team to cover you since they'll follow you if you don't place them. Repeat until all waves are done.

5. Sicons are deadly to your squadmates. Keep your squadmates safe. On the derelict Reaper, give a lot of ground. Don't rely on your squadmates to follow you fast enough. Keep giving them movement orders as you move, keeping them ahead of you as much as possible.

The scions wlll be left behind as the husks rush ahead. Kill the husks, then kill the scions.

6. Once you get to the Mass Effect core in the derelict Reaper, keep shooting the core as much as possible. It's much more efficient that mass killing of husks.

Mordin with Area Incinerate is a must for husk killing. The trick to surviving husks on Insanity is being able to strip their defenses. if you can goad enough of them into on choke point you can easily drop one area incinerate and then follow it with any decent area power either from you or your squad mates. To be clear, any standard power, even pull, used while a husk is defenseless will instantly kill it (I say standard as I've never tried to neural shock one before.)

If you're playing a soldier or classic vanguard build you probably wont have much to assist in this yourself so you should just stick to herding the husks around and trying not to get surrounded while you plink away at armor. Once they have no armor, leave it to a squad ability to finish them and save the precious ammo for something else.

Heavy weapons can all help. Personally I've found the flamethrower to just be too slow at melting their armor, but the arc projector is probably just right, and with the exception of Horizon, most every time you find husks they're probably the best thing around to be spending heavy ammo on.

Warp didnt have an area effect without combinating it with other biotics. So taking miranda to the collector ship is the worst thing someone could do.Samara with area reave/throw field and mordin with both, evolved cyro and incinerate blast are the best squadmates for the reaper iff.
By the way, stasis kill armored husks after it wears off.

I found strangely enough dominate works well, after regretting let morinith live i tried to use her and thane for some biotic combos on the collecter (i was an adept) ship after (In the chamber with scions & husks under the biotic shield bubble) i warped the armor off one husk i tried dominate and lo and behold all four other husks gang rushed it and while they were girly slapping each other i had plenty of time to recharge & repeat.

I took Miranda and Mordin with me last time, worked just fine.

Mordin had the area version of Incinerate of course, which helps a great deal.

The best trick for defeating husks I found is just to run and shoot. I had a huge amount of husks running around after me at the end of the IFF mission and if I kept running, they just couldn't hit me. They even got stuck on a ramp at one point because there were too many of them :)

For the most part, you can backtrack and it's insanely easy. At the end of the IFF mission, I just recommend never standing still. That's when they'll get you.

you've GOT to do the husk shuffle when fighting them. their pathfinding is shaky at best, so just keep moving around unpredictably and you'll survive.
