I'm confused by the OP... who put a gun to his head and said "BUY THIS DLC OR DIE MOFO!" ?

He should probably call the police.. cus that's just wrong.

No. Its just a gimmick used by developers to release half-finished games.

Then the choice is the same - buy it, or don't.

It seems to me that Bioware's choice is between releasing the additional content as DLC, or as a text-blurb at the start of the sequel, or not at all. I know which one I'd pick.

i like DLC that has purpose.. like kasumi or other ones in ME2.. a lot of the DLC in DA was like, oh look $5-7 dollars for 20 minutes of new story. but that was partially because you got the best weapons without the DLC. It offered nothing unique or amazingly killer in stats/looks.

Oh, I admit that every once in a while, I see some liver prepared in a new way, or cooked with interesting ingredients or just made to look delicious and I have occasionally tried this liver to again see if I like it.

So far, I haven't found liver that I enjoy. Again, it is up to me to keep trying new liver, or to stop and never try it again sure in my belief  that I will never find good liver. Again, no one forces me to get it. There's lots of delicious stuff to eat instead and it is totally up to me to eat it or not.

I had some really good duck liver last year. I'm not hugely into liver myself, but it was sliced very thinly and roasted to the ideal point of crispy outside, juice inside. No analogy intended.

I hate it when it's of poor quality and not even worth 5$.

I like DLC cause they remind of old D&D modules.I just think they should also be released on a disc so those without  Xbox live can enjoy them(like they did with Fallout 3).

If you don't want the DLC: don't buy it.
If you want to buy the DLC: do buy it.

Should developers add all the stuff they release as DLC into a game originally?
Maybe they want to refine certain DLCs to make them stellar.
Of course, that takes extra money and resources. Or, fans might demand devs to make certain products, such as armors, or DLC featuring characters, because they know fans will like it. But it's not financially feasible to employ people to make products that will be given for free. Companies need to make money, and employers need to be paid.
That being said, mistakes happen. I haven't played the DA:O DLC, but from what I've heard, it's not all that great. That being said, all consumers take the risk of not liking what they buy, whether it's food or DLC or movies or whatever.

And if you want DLC, but think it's too expensive, then make a choice to give something up. Cook from home and don't to the restauruant. Don't eat several McDonalds meals. Don't go to that movie (IMO, I'd rather play an interactive video game than a movie anyway). Heck, I haven't gone to the movies at all this month, and instead purchased LotSB. I've played it 3 times already. Will go onto my 4th soon enough, and likely more times. More enjoyable than a meal or a movie that I'll only see once in a theatre.

Liver is quite tasty sometimes, DA's DLC aren't after the Stone Prisoner. It went downhill from there.

And the only way of knowing if you'll like it is to buy it (ie. try the liver). If you don't like it, fine. if you like it, also fine. The liver is there for you if you like it. there is never a "you will always like liver" guarantee here, because some people just don't like liver.

What gets me is that a lot of people who don't like liver still want the liver, which is why they keep complaining about not getting liver in their meal even though they don't like and will never like liver!

Why?

I was expecting to pay $50 for ME3 and have the plot thread (Liara / Shadow Broker) resolved there, not pay $50 for ME3 and $10 for this DLC to resolve the plot thread. That's why I say it feels like they are holding the story they started in the base game ransom.

BDtS was good DLC, self-contained and had new content. Liara was MADE well, but was BAD DLC as it resolves something already started. Want to finish what you started? That'll be an additional $10 please and don't forget to buy the sequel too!

This applies to Dragon Age and Witch Hunt just the same. Just swap the names out.

You know what would be interesting DLC? A commentary track. Load up the DLC with developer and artist commentary as you play the base game, and things like concept artwork that pops up in context as you go. Throw a few wallpapers in there too for good measure.

The problem is not the liver. The problem is that, while you're making liver, you're not making pie. :wizard:

Whether or not people like liver has absolutely nothing to do with this issue.

The problem is that at one restaurant the menu advertises foi gras (duck liver, a coveted delicacy) but the chef is actually cooking chicken livers. At another restaurant they advertise "we have beef liver bites at low low prices" when the chef is cooking chicken liver bites and the prices don't reflect the quality or the volume of food you get in the slightest. At still another restaurant they advertise a serving of beef liver at a certain price, but after it's on your table they tell that in order to get the full serving you have to buy some beef liver bites at a lower price, and still what the chef is preparing in the kitchen is actually chicken liver bites.

In no case, and in no stage of the process is the restaurant goer being treated with any fairness or respect.

I hate downloadable content for several reasons.

I spend too much on the game already, and hate to have to purchase Microsoft Points, or whatever else.

Also, once I finish the game, it's over. There is no going back. I'm  no longer used to the controls for the particular game, have forgotten parts of the storyline, and it's simply not as much fun to go back and play a partial game.

Downloadable content leaves me feeling cheated that I wasn't given the full game in the first place with my nearly $70 spent on the typical new release

Of course, much of this is rendered moot as I decided that I've been wasting far too much money on short-lived games, and have just subscribed to GameFly. I figure this will save me hundreds of dollars each year, and I won't miss the downloadable content at all.

I'm just wondering if anybody else feels the same way. It seems I read a lot of comments about enjoying these additions, but can't imagine that I'm the only one that finds them disagreeable for the reasons stated above.

Yes. I feel the same way, that I was cheated out of a full game. The fact that the first part of Shale's DLC quest is actually part of DA:O, but they intentionally left the actual quest out to be DLC is a pretty cheap way to get more money from people (and I don't understand why they haven't handled the bugs with the original DA:O, like Jowan's Intention being unattainable). I have no desire to buy any of the DLCs. I don't see the point in milking people for money instead of earning their loyalty with a finished product or an actual expansion that is worth the money, but then again it's a business for them.

When DLC is done well then it refreshes the game for me and keeps me interested (the Mass Effect DLC's - Kasumi, Overlord, Lair of the Shadow Broker) were worthwhile for me because they were well done and kept me interested in the game because I'm not a multiple playthrough guy

The DLC for Dragon Age was a mixed bag for me - Leiliana's Song was enjoyable while it lasted. Golems was a tedious grind and Witch Hunt was OK until the bugged up ending.

The stone prisoner wasn't included on the game disc because there wasn't enough time during development to implement it before finishing. This is why it is free to people who bought the game new.
The other DLCs were conceved after the release of DAO or as promotional items so they're not 'milking' people there providing content to expand the game, with exception to Darkspawn chronicles, Leliana's song, and Golems of Amgarrak which are 'milking' people because they have no real purpose in game.

I have to say that I did not mind paying for Dragon Age DLC.
Off Dragon Age topic, Transformers the War for Cybertron DLC made me mad. The game was released half complete with the intention (imo) of completing it with DLC. Not even 4 months old and it had 2 DLC packs?
Shady and underhanded I say!
That is the kind of DLC that I do not like.
Back to DA, the game was complete and did not require purchasing it to get the full experience of Dragon Age. The story would not be interrupted if it was not purchased.
So in answer to your question, it really depends on what game and what type of DLC is being offered.

Indeed. Shame I have it on Xbox 360 Posted Image

If the DLC's are of a high quality like LotSB or at least enjoyable diversions taking the game into a different direction like Leiliana's Song then I'm fine with it

It's been fixed for PS3 and Xbox 360 as well. The patches just have to go through PSN and Microsoft... So I'm guessing it'll be up by the end of the week (hopefully).

In fact, I just played through Witch Hunt up until when Morrigan was like, "You mother f-er, you denied me and you'll never know what I wanted with the demon baby! I got to settle for this normal rugrat instead!"
