Yes. I feel the same way, that I was cheated out of a full game. The fact that the first part of Shale's DLC quest is actually part of DA:O, but they intentionally left the actual quest out to be DLC is a pretty cheap way to get more money from people (and I don't understand why they haven't handled the bugs with the original DA:O, like Jowan's Intention being unattainable). I have no desire to buy any of the DLCs. I don't see the point in milking people for money instead of earning their loyalty with a finished product or an actual expansion that is worth the money, but then again it's a business for them.

The stone prisoner wasn't included on the game disc because there wasn't enough time during development to implement it before finishing. This is why it is free to people who bought the game new.
The other DLCs were conceved after the release of DAO or as promotional items so they're not 'milking' people there providing content to expand the game, with exception to Darkspawn chronicles, Leliana's song, and Golems of Amgarrak which are 'milking' people because they have no real purpose in game.

Wasn't the controversy around Warden's Keep and the Stone Prisoner that the DLC was available the same day that the game was released? Isn't that why Georg Zoeller, the Lead Systems Designer at BioWare said, "I categorically reject that any features or game systems in this game were designed or removed to bilk users for more money."

What gets me is that a lot of people who don't like liver still want the liver, which is why they keep complaining about not getting liver in their meal even though they don't like and will never like liver!

Just next time keep an eye on your cooks for that liver menu. :) Those cooks were not that good. =]
They spoiled the liver menu.  :o   :crying:

And I usaly like liver.

I don't 'hate downloadable content. But some of it that's been released I'd prefer if there was a bit more work but into them and less bugs. A lot of the early downloadable content were quite good like Shale and even Warden's Peak. The later ones while I had fun with them to some extent, they reused old maps and didn't really take us anywhere new. It was good playing them, but I'd prefer they didn't just re-use old game maps of places you've already been.

This!  I love DLC, and I think that the prices are quite reasonable, but having to buy 'points' is just flat out annoying.  You always wind up with points left over so you feel like you've been ripped off.
What is wrong with credit card purchases?

It's profiteering at it's finest. When you approach somebody, tell them "Hey! Get this game! It's only 800 Microsoft Points!" they might feel more inclined to purchase it, instead of say approaching them and going "Hey! Get this DLC! It's only 10$!".

We're also forced to purchase specific points, somebody who purchased 500 MS points for example can't purchase a 560 MS points DLC so they'll need to purchase 800 or 1200 (draining more money).

This is why i love PS3 online store. Awakening was $59.95 (in Australia), so i bought it for exactly $59.95, no extra needed.

Then there are people who go to the best restaurant in the city and order liver, only to have some half-baked monstrosity which was cut from an animal dead a week ago on the table.

You're the best restaurant around here, guys. Maybe some people complain just for the hell of it, but some others are genuinely heartbroken because they're accustomed to BioWare's traditional high quality.

I like DLC, its usually pretty good, at a minimum. Of course I, like everybody else, always prefers Expansions simply because they're bigger with more and cooler features than your average DLC will have, but so long as I like the main game, I'm naturally going to like the DLC for it, and the more the merrier! I hope that when DA2 rolls around they have a minimum of a new DLC every month, with more great characters like Shale, and more cool story-related DLC like Witch Hunt. It's sad that we're already out of DAO DLC, hopefully they'll make way more DLC for DA2, all the way up to right before DA3 comes out!

Honestly? No i dont hate it. Do i hate that it costs money yes. Especially when your end up paying more for all the dlc then for the original game. and the Dlc gives alot less bang for your buck in cimparison. My opinion is..If you want to put crap in a game we already bought cool.. just dont make us pay extra for the stuff that should have been in the game already. I mean really. Start a game. Finish it. Put all the content you want in it. Charge the going rate. Then start on the next game, and put all your effort into that. Its irritating to see because most stuff will end up half arsed.

Bah.. Gaming is slowly going into a realm I could care less about anyway.. It's full of rehashes and clones that cost far more than they should.. or maybe I'm just old enough now that I'm starting to part with VG's.. *shrug*

I've been playing video games for 20 years and I strongly believe there has been a spectacular decline in quality over the last 10.  Or maybe I just know how to pick the really crappy ones :(.

You're picking the "crappy" ones. While games have become easier, the quality has gone up. Other than those excellent movie games, games have become ever more sophisticated.

I'd love to see a deeper explanation then "the quality has gone up" because i also have been playing video games for many years(since the inception), and while they sure are "lookin purtier" very few every year are really AAA quality games.

DA:O isn't the prettiest game on the market, but i can name others that just don't touch the depth of soul i get from playing it over and again. I still find myself replaying DA:O and PS2 games while i have PS3 games that are waiting to be played.(except when FFXIII came out..i devoted all my time to completing it fully before i came back to DA:O...oh, and when i purchased The Saboteur...excellent game).

Of course it's also in the eye of the beholder. At this point, i pretty much avoid almost anything that isn't RPG fare anyways.

I played, then replayed Leliana's Song twice more after purchasing it in a row. That's certainly saying something for a 2 hour DLC, which brings me to this point.....

Ask yourself this....what do most games average for playtime this gen? ~15 hours at 60 dollars? If you average it out, Lelaina's Song then works out to approx. 17 hours at that same 60 dollars. That seems to be a pretty decent cost for the DLC which had plenty of VA to go along with it, never mind replayability. While it can be argued that some or alot of the DLC is just rehashed areas, it's still different content story wise.

I still just can't see myself hating something that is optional, though.

The thing is, most of the DLC gives alot to the storyline. So unless you want half the story. Be ready to dish out another 50 bucks. Its all rehashed areas...which isnt new content really. Just reused to maximize profit. The fact that it gives to the story makes it alot harder to pass up. No one plays RPGs to have a crappy storyline. Yes its optional, If you want to get technical.

Why?

I was expecting to pay $50 for ME3 and have the plot thread (Liara / Shadow Broker) resolved there, not pay $50 for ME3 and $10 for this DLC to resolve the plot thread. That's why I say it feels like they are holding the story they started in the base game ransom.

Money has a time value. By the time ME3 debuts, the $10 you spent on Lair won't even be worth $1. Assuming you get it now rather than sitting on your thumbs of course.

I would rather get that resolution now and have juicy liver to chew on with the community than wait until 2011 with nothing but fruitless speculation to show for it.

I dont hate the concept of DLCs. It gives the opportunity for small sequels, prequels and addons to the game. Expensions are fine too, but less choices there.

That said, the quality of the work is important. Somehow i feel the team making those DLCs (well most of them) werent too experimented. some of them made plot holes, others were bugged, and the timeline is hard to fallow. With so many different origins, endings, LI and what not it seems hard to write something that pleases most ppl (and im not even saying everyone). When a game is based around its awsome story, its hard when continuity goes down the drain with some of the DLCs.

I think with a little more practice those guys will come up with something better. Or at least i hope we wont see the same mistakes around DA2.

I can't stand it and refuse to waste any money on it. Warden's Keep tempted me as long as I had hoped it'd be an actual stronghold, but when I realized that DLC was basically a money-making scheme consisting of unmotivated hackfests and ph4t l3wt with the odd weird semi-retcon thrown in, I decided to not even bother keeping up with announcements. *shrug* Besides, when the game is over, it's over. Reloading an old save just for a random unmotivated hackfest doesn't do it for me, and my Warden is dead so "post-Archdemon" content is out too.

I believe the term you're looking for is "glorified Monty Haul run". Posted Image That about sums my feelings on the DLC's, too.

Love 'em love 'em love 'em... give me more DLC... more! more! I'm not so distrustful of the developers that I feel that they're trying to rip me off by not putting everything in the main release. And hey, in DOA I at least felt that I got more than my money's worth on the original release... But I DO like to play games again and again... it's just how I am (I don't even want to think how many run throughs I did of HMM...) -- so DLCs give me a chance to have a different experience in a familiar world.

I'm wondering a bit why this thread is even here other than the expressed idea that perhaps the developers are just trying to hold back content and nickel and dime you... If you don't believe that's true, then there's no reason to rage against DLCs -- don't buy 'em if you don't like 'em, but some of us will love them... and why would you want to take that away from us?

Really a moot point... I expect if they make money we will have them... if not, not...

Having bought most of the DA DLC and Awakening. If I set my Bioware fandom aside and be truly honest with myself, I'd like my money back.

So many of the DLCs have been incredibly poor quality, either from bugs or lame conceptual ideas or total dead end developments, that the whole DA experience has been soured for me, to the point where I have no interest in purchasing the sequel.

I'm sorry to say that Awakening and DA DLC will for me, from now on be the classic example of how NOT to release DLC or expansions.

The problem that I think myself and at least some others have with the DLC for Dragon Age is that Bioware was pumping so much of it out but not fixing some of the bugs that really upset some of us. It felt like they were placing a higher priority on making more money than on customer satisfaction, which was upsetting. Now, in no way shape or form am I saying that that was what Bioware was doing. Belive me, I know well enough that what something feels like and the reality of the situation can often be two completely diffrent things. But it still left a bad taste towards DLC, for some of us at least.
