Maybe a bourgeois capitalist, though.
How's that working out for him?

I'd gladly pay $10 for a couple hours of entertainment. Just like going to a movie, but more fun!

I'll never complain about more content. The best part about DLC is that you don't have to get the ones that you aren't interested in.

I agree and it's totally optional. Some of the DLC for ME2 and DA:O actually looks good, unlike the NWN 1 DLCs. I think I was still haunted by the writing for the OC for NWN 1.
Disclaimer: The expansions were okay, but the writing was still kind of flat to me.

You should have tried Crown of Cormyr, a premium DLC not created by Bioware. Cloaks, ridable horses, jousting, tabards are just a few things that made this particular module stand above the rest. /reminicsing

Actually, after the first couple, the Premium Modules for NWN were pretty good. Pirates of the Sword Coast was better than any DLC that's been released for DA:O in my opinion, and as mentioned Wyvern Crown of Cormyr was excellent as well. Sadly the whole program got shut down by Atari before it could really get off the ground, and you can't play them anymore even if you bought them

The "Bring Down the Sky" ME DLC was excellent because it was stand-alone, had interesting and beautiful new locations, and so forth. It didn't rip a plot thread from the game and resolve the most interesting elements. I'd have paid for BDtS; but I feel like Witch Hunt and Shadow Broker are being use to bludgeon money out of fans.
I'd want to see them keep the DLC plots self-contained.
This doesn't apply to finishing the plot line up later in the trilogy because we were expecting 3 games out of ME. As far as Dragon Age goes, I'm not sure if they said it would be a sequel/trilogy or what before it was released.

That's another problem with DLC, isn't it? How long will BioWare/EA support the DA:O content before the authentication servers go offline and we can't play anymore?
That, plus the BioWare Points BS, are my two biggest complaints. Otherwise, I've mostly enjoyed the DLC.

DLC is an okay concept. Pay a bit more for extra content that Devs have made after the release. If you don't want to buy an extra topping in your ice cream cone, dont get it.
The only problems I have with DLC is when it is released with the game on Day One
the content is already on the disc and we just paid to unlock content that was already there
Maps and costumes, overpriced and probably omitted from main release
on another note with maps, back in the day the average shooter would release with 20-25 maps. Now with the concept of DLC, shooters release with 8-10 maps and then charge ridiculous prices for additional maps, which have probably been omitted from the release, or is just hashly done remade crap some dev worked on his lunch time
that's just f*cking abuse

I kid. You need to keep in mind that maps "back in the day" were very basic and had little regard setting and scene.
Some of my favorite Quake maps were boxes connected by rectangles that utilized maybe three textures.

"back in the day" I played Castle Wolfenstein as a top down action game with stick figures on a Commodore 64!

That's the way I try to look at it as well.
I could go rent a movie for $6 and get 1-2 hours of entertainment if the movie is good (and there is certainly no guarantee of that). DLC that provides 1.5-3 hours of entertainment is priced competitively for my entertainment dollars and I agree with you, it is more fun.
Just like movies though if the reviews are bad, I probably won't buy it. I believe combining DLC and pre-orders can lead to problems. When you have people willing to line up to give developers money without even knowing what they're going to get it can lead to the creation of blatant cash grab DLC.

You're getting a quality core experience with the main game, want it more? buy DLC, don't want any more? wait for the next installment.
I for one am very happy to be able to extend my game experience and enjoy more time with the characters I like for 7-11 euros every few months.

I wasn't that happy with witch hunt (easy, character development was near 0 and since it was the end of our warden's story, a bit more fluff would have been great) but lelianna's song and return to Ostagar both served their purpose well. The others were fun but somewhat irrelevant to the warden's story.
What I would like though is that the original spirit of the game is conserved. When you're making DLC for a RPG, it's nice to have tactical battles and puzzles, but it's also very nice to have choices that matter and lead you to have different relationships with your party and/or to see different endings.

What DLC proponents don't seem to understand is that DLC effectively prevents higher quality content from being made. Gone are the days of awesome expansion packs like Hordes of the Underdark. Now we're lucky if we get something like Awakening. Half-assery is the new standard and you can all thank DLC for that.
This is unsubstantiated opinion. Awakening was as good of an expansion as I have played from Bioware. I don't think DLC takes away from that....
