Hello folks! I chose to give NWN2 another try. All it takes is character creation and few minutes of running about to remember, very vividly, how  the game has some very promising aspects..and some that are horribly irritating. Camera feels like an arch nemesis here. I just can't get along with it. Surely many share my less than warm feelings towards it. With that in mind, are there any unofficial up to date patches, modifications or..anything that makes it little bit less flimsy and alien?  Any tips how to get along with it?

I rummaged about in keybinding section but didn't manage to find anything that allows one to edit  mouse button functions. Is it just me being blind? Being able to swtich middle mouse button(roll/tilt camera) and right mouse button(action menu) functions around would alone make situation much better. Surely this is possible somehow?

Also, if you could list any must have files, community patches, fixes, mods and suches, I'd really appreciate!

I have fuly patched vanilla NWN2,no expansions.

Try the settings from Wikia

They make the camera SLIGHTLY more bearable.

And yeah, I share your pain about the mouse roller/middle button assigned to mouse control.
I wasn't able to remap the righ-click, but at least I managed to assign a side thumb button (programmable) to camera control. It does work a bit better then pressing the scroll roller all the time.

Sadly I agree with you. In NWN2 the Camera is your greatest enemy.

Thanks! I'll be sure to have a look once back home.
Any idea if this thing...

"Other modifications

Shortly after the release Bluechipps made his/her own modification to make the camera more 'World of Warcraft like'. The modification is in the form of an application which alters the configuration files to achieve this effect.

....does what it promises and is up to date enough to run with last official patch? Taken from the Wiki page linked in post above.

I have the least problems with the exploration mode camera. It is very similar to NWN1 and is pretty manageable.

Honestly I have no idea. I read about this mod, but as it modifies the game files, I did not check it. I don't think it was updated lately though. Maybe someone else knows more about it.

Exploration mode is your friend. I remember having to spend quite a bit of time tweaking this until I was satisfied but now I wish I could carry over my NWN2 settings to other games.

If you are looking for something over-the-shoulder, you may be out of luck. That said, first-person and over-the-shoulder don't work that well for party based games anyway.

my appearance.2da moves the camera up a little bit, which enables over the shoulder. It does affect cutscenes a little bit but i don't see those anyway. ( This is based on a mod on the vault, wish it was my idea but it helps a lot )

I always thought it would be good to have folks post their ini files for the camera settings they think are perfect ( and which mode they focus on as well ). If enough people did that we could get a consensus on what the defaults should be, and perhaps multiple people looking at a given set of settings could even improve what you are posting. ( besides if that ini gets zapped you will have a lot of work recreating whatever settings you had chosen )

The major issue is the defaults are awful but can be adjusted enough to satisfy anyone, the problem is the default settings seem to not please anyone. If we had all this done and could say these settings are good, whenever the folks at obsidian get a green light on a new patch, or for a community patch we could make people actually have defaults that don't make them think they need to fight the camera.

An interesting idea. I do wonder if many of us happy with our cameras actually share much in terms of specific settings, but if so, it would create a useful tool for new and old players.

Idea of community made database of decent cam presets sounds amazing indeed!

Neh, not looking for an over the shoulder experience per se, just a..state where it doesn't feel like I am at war with the camera. Wish it were just matter of getting used to it.. this is third time I start NWN2,  getting sick of camera some 5-8 hours in keeps pushing me away.

Wish there were more Infinity engine games to beat:p Hummm....been ages since I played Torment..hmm hum.
Then again, playing NWN with default camera is very close to Torment in itself. AmIright?*Drum roll*
....Right, I'll get my coat.
